Red Sox trying to get out ahead of it. Maybe avoid similar penalties.

Alex will always be a legend for 2018. I hope the MLB investigates the shit out of every MLB franchise for this stuff.

Insane overreaction by the league forced their hand. Had to be done.

was a matter of hours as soon as Manfred's report came out the way it did.

he imploded his post-playing career with an outrageous risk. hope it was worth it Alex.

Sad and disappointing. Despite everything, I like Cora and hope he's able to learn from this and return to baseball some day.

So what about the 2014 proof of the Astros doing it? Seems like he's not the ringleader on this. Not saying he didn't need to go, but it seems like it's a lot bigger than 2017/2018.

Really sucks but it’s exactly what I thought would happen. The league completely blew the steroid era so now Manfred is going to go hard on stupid stuff like sign stealing when you are the ones that put the tech right there.

No surprise at all. It was inevitable. It was fun while it lasted. Good luck Alex. Tough days ahead for you and your family.

This sucks. There's no other way to say it.

I'm not saying they shouldn't have done it, they kind of had to. But, this sucks.

Damn.

This sucks. But once MLB treated the matter as a generational offense, I don’t think the team could have stood behind him through the inevitable suspension.

I hate this because I really like him as a person and a baseball man. The job he did in 2018 was as good or better than any manager in Red Sox history. But, this is something that had to be done. There was no running from this story.

It sucks, especially because whatever they did in 2018 was unnecessary. They were good enough to win it all straight up.

Biggest shock in all of this is Shank’s “sources “ being full of shit. Utter fucking insanity, but Goodell, er, Manfred forced their hand. They had no choice. I liked Cora a lot, and he always gets high fives from me for 2018.

I'm quite sad it's come to this, I hope Cora's able to do whatever penance he must to return to the game before long.

There are already rumblings that the Dodger and Yankees among others did the same thing, hope MLB is prepared to give those mangers career killing suspensions too. Because of course every team is doing something similar to what the Sox did (unless there's more than just using the replay room)

Sucks, but once MLB made him out to be the instigator and ring leader of this “major” crime that only two teams supposedly engaged in, you knew the Sox would be forced in to it.

Absolutely the right call. That is not leadership to enable the infraction in one org and the bring it to another even in a different form. Others in the league are doing it? Fines but not our guy.

A shame but correct course IMO based on all known info

No surprise. It was their only move. And the right one.

The thing is, it doesn't matter if it started as innocent gamesmanship. It doesn't matter if it wasn't the reason they won. The bottom line is, there will always be doubts.

The further the Sox separate themselves from this regime, the better. Blow it up. Start building a new era.

Came here to post basically this. What happens if it turns out like 20 teams did the same thing in 2018? Are all of their managers going to be fired? (Not saying Cora shouldn't have been fired, by the way - it's just a really weird situation right now.) I guess Cora is a bit unique in that he was the alleged mastermind of the 2017 Astros thing which is above and beyond just using the replay room.

Also will be interesting to see what happens to Dombrowski - applying the Luhnow precedent Dombrowski is in line for a significant suspension even if he didn't personally know anything. Not sure what that means given that Dombrowksi isn't associated with a team - does he get to be "suspended" for 2019 and then come back even if he had no plans to work for a team in 2019 anyway? Or would his "suspension" start whenever he was hired by a team, if that ever happens?
