I remember Gammons used to hype up the 1999 draft as "the Rick Asadoorian draft." As it turns out, Asadoorian was a career minor leaguer who couldn't even scratch a .700 OPS in nearly 2500 AB.

Also Eric Wedge, Gammo definitely was pumping him up as Fisk 2.0
I went to a meaningless September game where the crowd started chanting "Wedge- E", "Wedge- E". If he was a decent player, that chant would have caught on.

It did, in schools all across the country.

How big was the hype around Casey Fossum? I remember they wouldn't trade him for Colon. I vaguely remember Theo comparing a Colon trade to something along the lines of "avoiding the ice cream truck when you're trying to stay healthy"

I was on a high school class trip at the same place as Northbridge High on draft day 1999. Asadoorian was there and at that time I thought I was in the presence of a future HoF'er. There was a softball diamond and the park our schools were at organized a couple of games, which ended after Asadoorian hit so many home runs so far in to the the woods there we couldn't find them and they ran out of balls. He was great when he was playing agains the scrubs from Shepherd Hill, that is for sure.

Rob Woodward, Eric Hetzel, and Mickey Pina are some names I recall from my teenage years.
Eric Hetzel. Now there is a name I haven't heard since Crowley, LA, 2018. Spent almost a decade shooting the shit with the man not knowing who he was. Been best buds with my (now former) boss, has been for years. His minors time was before my fandom memories. I'd get bored at work and throw Live Oak acorns at the trees - always fancied my tiny ass a pitcher. He'd comment on my form, lol. Country boy, but nice as hell to me. Always had to help him lift his Labradors into the back of the truck, as his shoulder was total shit and his kids didn't want to help worth a damn.
