It's as though, among player-voters, Lindor and Brantley benefitted from the Indians being in the Series last year, while winning the Series didn't help the Cubs

Don't know what that means

Tom Caron just said on NESN pregame that Mookie would be starting (in place of Trout) because he got the most player votes of players not starting. "He got word" but didn't give a source.

It makes no sense that guys up for the final vote aren't first on the list to replace guys that drop out/can't play.

Well, if they the Final Vote guys are a straight position fill-in it makes sense. But they are trying to fill the openings based on position

In the AL, 4 SP are being replaced by 1 SP and 3 RP. One of the 3 SS up for the final vote could easily fill in for Castro. MLB clearly thought they were more deserving than Cano to make the final vote and SS is loaded. The team without Castro has 2 SS (Correa, Lindor) and 2 2B (Altuve, Schoop) so it's not like 2nd isn't represented and SS overly represented.

I can't believe they can't find 4 sluggers in the AL better than Gary Sanchez for the HRD.

He's a pretty boring choice, but he does hit the ball far and the Home Run Derby is more about stars than amount of homers. I mean, more random people are inclined to tune in to see Gary Sanchez than Logan Morrison.

I bet the matchup that everyone will be talking about - Stanton vs. Judge - doesn't happen. It'll be some weird final pairing between Bour and Moustakas.

Can someone explain to me how Archer is the replacement for one of the pitchers who's unavailable because of injury or because he started Sunday, when Archer started Sunday, too. I get him being chosen by the voting, but shouldn't he be unavailable also, and shouldn't they get a replacement for him, too?

Archer wanted the opportunity to pitch in the All Star game and the Rays allowed it. The Rays manager is also there so don't expect him in the game unless it's absolutely necessary.

Yeah, it looks like they changed the rule back, it's not automatic anymore. Apparently the other pitchers who started Sunday could have made the same decision if they, their team, and the All Star team coaches could agree to whatever accomodations would be required to make them available.
