Actually, if you combined the AL shirts and the NL pants, then you'd have a uniform that wasn't that hideous.
I think MLB should just make it so the winning team takes home $50M or some outrageous number. Losing team gets nothing.
This is even better but probably unenforceable in the CBA.
I've been saying for years -- the NBA Slam Dunk contest winner gets $25M. You'd see the LeBrons and Durants turn out for it then.

The All Star Game rivaled the Super Bowl and WS in my childhood. The Fred Lynn granny in ‘83 was an enormous moment in my youth.
Not even a little bit. Either it's an exhibition game or it isn't. Suspending all the players on the losing team for a week makes more sense.
Curt gowdy left speechless by Reggie nearly putting it out of tiger stadium in 71 stuck with me.
The games were must see because we never saw half the guys play the other half.
That '71 Reggie blast is still a holy shit moment.
Interleague play did wreck much of the wonder of the ASG, no doubt. But I think it's in the end a net positive.
Some would say that the gimmick is ILP, but I guess that makes us sound 1000 years old.
Then again, there was also Ray Fosse. Maybe a lower temperature on this thing isn’t the worst thing.

and just telling you that a once a year event does make something more special than an eveyday occurence.

The MLB ASG is still the one that most resembles the game that's played the rest of the year, for better or worse.
