Brutal for Leeds' chances of remaining in the EPL.

But at least McKennie can go back to where he's not wanted.
If Leeds to get sent down, this injury might hamper Adams’ chances of moving on…if he wants to and/or unless he has a relegation release clause. In any case, a major assessment of his level will come from the clubs circling Adams for a transfer this summer.

yeah agreed, Adams has proven enough in the EPL already this season that when he's healthy he'll have several choices there to pick from. Assuming he has a relegation release clause, as you note. Other than taking an 87' red card at Spurs back in November, he has been consistently above average, in 28 matches and ~2200' for Leeds. They have all the data on him that they need.

As long as it's nothing lingering, an injury to Tyler is actually one of the more palatable in terms of the USMNT. For me, his quality and expected performance are pretty baked in at this point and we mostly know what we can expect out of him and out of a midfield that is starting him. There is more to be learned from getting more time to see the other midfield options.

Aaronson is playing in a friendly on YouTube right now if anyone wants to check him out playing for Union Berlin.

Did they lose the refs during the water break in this Union game?

to answer my own question, one of the refs got hurt and they are looking for a replacement. really odd to have both 11’s standing there waiting to restart for about 15 minutes now.

Yeah, it's weird they couldn't move everyone else up a spot and backfill with someone from a team's staff or something. It's a friendly.

Is there gonna be like 30 minutes of added time?

Edit: holy crap I hope Kevin Behrens lost a bet or something. The cornrows are definitely...a look?

Technically not “abroad” since the match is at the Rose Bowl, but Pulisic is in the starting lineup for Milan in their pre-season friendly against Real Madrid on ESPN tonight.

Edit: Milan strike first with a Tomori header off a Pulisic corner.

Just picked up an assist as Tomori rams home an easy header off a free kick. Great service from Pulisic.

Gaga watched 5 goals fly by him in his Belgian league debut with Eupen vs Brugge.

Things got better yesterday, allowing 1 goal and making 3 saves against Kartrijk.

Eupen finished 15th in the 18 team league last season, so it’s fair to say that Gaga should expect to be very busy this year. Not so different from his Chicago days.

Pulisic with another goal for Milan over the weekend. He's off an running so far, which unfortunately means it's almost time for him to get hurt.

Tim Ream scores against Man City and Matt Turner shuts out Chelsea. Decent weekend.

Brutal. It is quite likely that this was Vines’ sole opportunity to ever play in the Champions League.

That is so awful it's tough to even believe it's an accident. That was Vines' ticket to show off at a higher level and attract the interest of the Big 5 leagues.

Finally McKennie and Weah start together for Juventus. Fingers crossed that it goes well…

At first glance I thought that cross just happened to bounce to Pulisic's feet, but no, he controlled it, turned and fired.

Johnny Soccer is getting closer to a move to Betis. It was rumored this summer but Internacional wanted to keep him for their Copa Libertadores run (they eventually got knocked out in the semis). I plan to be at the Benito Villamarín for the game against Barca in late January, so I hope they can work a loan for the January window.

“Johnny Cardoso has a principle agreement with Real Betis. The green and whites would pay between €4-5M to sign Johnny from Internacional for the 2024/25 season.”

Weah has a thigh injury and will be out through next international break (Nations League QF/Copa qualifier).

Life as a goalkeeper is brutal. Matt Turner had himself a pretty nice first half overall, doing all he could to keep his utterly putrid defense in the game. He had himself a howler in the second half and now that’s all his side’s fans seem to care about.

Forest wouldn’t have come back from 1-0 down, let alone the 2-0 they were suffering. The third didn’t “seal” the win by any stretch. Calling out his “failure” to hold the shot that led to the recount that opened the scoring is utter insanity. No goalkeeper in the world is holding that, and I struggle to think of how he’d direct a parry effectively from that range on a shot with that power.

It’s disappointing to see him getting beaten up like this. He’s not the root cause of the club’s leakiness at the back.

Pulisic off with what looked like maybe a hamstring injury; you hope it was just time wasting, since he’d been in good form and an injury now would be brutal.

JJ Watt doing some recruiting?

At Gregg’s last presser he said he’s in regular contact with Luca. Signs are pretty good, I think.

Koleosho is with Italy’s U-21 team for their November U-21 Euro qualifiers. It’s really a continuation of his time with the Italy U-19 team this summer. I’m still bullish on him joining up with the USMNT sometime soon. Italy aren’t known for giving young players much time with their senior team with a few exceptions, so if he’s waiting for the Azurri it will likely be some time. I like our chances with a kid born and raised in the US as the USMNT usually winS those dual nationals. Except for a couple massive exceptions, one who went to Italy (and I’m still not over it).

Whatever one might think of the quality of the coach or the true potential of the team, etc etc, it's undeniable that this group (and you can include GGG in that) have good vibes when it comes to this sort of thing. Closing on Dest, Musah, and Balogun is no joke. With the only major loss being Araujo, I want to say?

Get him stateside for a hang with the guys and they will seal the deal.

And yes, Gregg would have closed the deal with his fellow Jersey boy.

I'm more upset over Neven Subotic, because not only was he raised here like Rossi, he didn't have a deep family connection to Serbian football, he played for our YNTs, and if our coach hadn't been an asshole to him, would've been a big upgrade at CB for us in 2010 and 2014, and maybe even meant we didn't have to rely on Omar Gonzalez at *cough* some crucial moments in the 2018 cycle. There wasn't anything we could've done to keep Rossi, but all we had to do to keep Subotic is not be an asshole to him.

To say Berhalter has been an upgrade in that regard would be a huge understatement. Say what you will about his tactics, the man is the Nick Saban of dual national recruiting.

Subotic was the other major loss in my mind. He was born in Yugoslavia, fled to Germany for obvious reasons and spent years there before coming to the US. He did play for US youth national teams before getting pushed away. Rossi was born and raised in the US but, as you said, never played for the US.

Koleosho is a mix of the two- born in the US with an Italian parent like Rossi, played on US youth teams like Subotic- so it would sting double if the US misses out Luca. My opinion of Gregg as a game manager is well documented here, but I will admit that I appreciate his handling of dual nats. Stay in constant contact, let them know they’re wanted, no pressure. Even losing guys like Julian Araujo wasn’t bad. Araujo in his heart felt more strongly about Mexico, and that’s fine by me and I wish him well. I’m confident that Koleosho will be back but if he’s not it will feel more like a ball was dropped somewhere along the line by the US. If memory serves, Koleosho wasn’t as highly rated by US youth coaches. This is not on GGG and he wasn’t given the FU Subotic was, but Koleosho was in the US fold when he was younger and he isn’t now.

@Titans Bastard you up for starting a 2024-25 version of this thread in about a week? You do quite the recaps.
We're still deep in the 2023-24 season!

I'm also a bit below the peak of my powers. The school year and toddlers take their toll. I'll see what I can do over winter break...

Yes but the thread name is "2022-23", so I figured maybe instead of treating it as a season designation we could just treat it as calendar years, but then if so... we'd still want a new one soon. More than that, though, I figured that as the keeper of those big lists that kick off threads like these, nobody could really replace that summary / reference.

I hear ya on the toddlers though.

Sargent made the bench for Norwich. Great to see him back. He was on a roll before getting hurt.
