After seeing the Varejao news I immediately thought to myself (semi-jokingly) "I wonder how Danny will use this to his benefit." The end result will obviously be another 1st round pick to the C's, just have to wait and see how they get there and if they even have to give up value to get it.

Geez, how many 1st rounders can the Celtics really use?

Danny can always try to package them to move up in the draft, use them as added value in a trade for a good player, or punt and get some future picks.

Certainly there is a point of diminishing returns if you plan to make all those picks, but I doubt that's the plan.  It's all just future currency, which is more than Brandon Bass or Brandan Wright will likely be worth to the team in a few months.

As many as it takes to land an all star when they go on the market while retaining enough to add talent around them.

I don't like to see a guy get injured, that sucks, but I do kind of like GM LeBron having a plan blow up in his face. LeBron loves Varejao, and I have no doubt he was instrumental in signing him to that extension. Why else would they sign a guy who hasn't played in more than 31 games in three out of the last four seasons to a 3 year/$30 million extension?
