Android Media Box/XMBC/Kodi Connectivity Issue

I recently acquired an Android media player (completely blanking on the name) running XMBC/Kodi Helix from a buddy. I've hooked it up, got it running, but cannot for the life of me get an internet connection on it. I've plugged it directly into my router, ensured the router is working, re-set everything about 100 times, disabled my firewall, googled for hours, everything I can think of, but still no luck.

I'm definitely Android ignorant, so does anyone have any idea how I could troubleshoot this? Anything I'm not thinking of? Feel free to PM if it's easier too.

Thanks in advance.

If you can drop to a command prompt and type ping 192.168.1.254 where 192.168.1.254 is the internal IP address of your router, and the ping works then it is either your default gateway setting (again, should be your router) or your DNS which is wrong.

I assume you've tried the obvious?

1) Tried to connect wirelessly
2) Tried another ethernet cable
3) Tried another port on your router

I should mention, I've only used it on the TV with remote, so I haven't connected it to a computer. Is there an easy way to get to the command prompt just from the normal UI?

1) There didn't seem to be any wireless capabilities on this particular box. I'm unfamiliar enough with the UI/software to figure out what I'm doing wrong.
2) Yes, tried that
3) Yes, tried that

We don't even know what the box is, so it's tough to give specifics
Fair point.

It's an MX Box, like this one. It came pre-loaded with Kodi Helix 14.1 and Titan Media Browser Version 3.3.0. I'm using only the remote that comes with it, don't have it hooked up to a computer or a keyboard or anything.

I'm probably just going to give it back at this point, more trouble than it's worth.

Literally after I typed it, I figured it out. Had to go deep into the Add On browser to find the ELEC settings and had to switch on "Hard Wired Network" to on.
