This is terrible news for the player and for the team. But anyone who saw him in the playoffs last year must have thought he needed to go to the AL and DH.

He was better in LF in the regular season. Probably a touch below average, but tolerable and not really horrible. And that was with really limited experience. The fact that he even got to the ball he got injured on is a testament to the fact that he has (or at least had, pre-knee injury) surprising range for a guy with such a stout build.

That being said, he'd probably end up as a full-time DH if the NL gets the DH in the next CBA (which I'd put at 50/50 odds).
