Gonzales @ German
Gilbert @ Taillon
Castillo @ Cole

Could be a rotation change which may push Cole out. Should be a fun series against the very confident Seattle group. Wish we got to see Julio, though.

NY has 14 pitchers with Effross, good chance tonight is German’s last game in pinstripes (he has an option but they could use the 40 man spot).

NY is pretty thin too, they used almost everyone yesterday.

Looks like they're not using PitchCom. Has that been the case in all of German's starts?

Ugh. Just survive this game, then we don't have to deal with German anymore.

Crow, you said earlier that you'd be OK if he left. I dunno man, I kinda want him to stay.

Hard not to be impressed by him ignoring a fairly large contract offer, betting on himself, and then being on pace in early august for like 9+ WAR and breaking the pre-steroid HR record. Trying to remember others that have backed up their contract negotiations to this level.

I guess ARod opted out of his contract after his MVP in 2007. This would be like ARod somehow opting out before that season.

Of course I want him to stay, but Cole + Judge making $70m for the next forever years still scares me and maybe not having confidence in Cole as an "ace" leaves a really bad taste in my mouth about 10 year contracts.

True, but this quick back and forth makes it obvious why Monty (or another starter) had to go. Cole, Montas, Sev, Cortes, Taillon, German, Schmidt... We had too many starters.
Yeah, they are trying to stash guys and it is tricky. I believe they put Stanton on the IL in part so they would have more time to trade Gallo, I think they traded for Bader because they like him for 2023 and because they can put him on the 60 day IL right away and save a roster spot. Fans would like Cashman to maximize this current team's chances and I think he did that in some ways, but also he needs to keep looking forward also for future editions of the team, it is a very tricky balance.

Maybe the new sticky stuff will get him back to himself. Cole lives and dies by whether or not people are on base when he gives up his homer of the game. His lack of ability to stay consistent through the game has really grinded down my confidence in him lately.

Going to be out for the bulk of this one, not sad to not see this getaway day lineup against Castillo. They really need Stanton back, wonder how close he is.

1 1B Anthony Rizzo
2 3B DJ LeMahieu
3 RF Matt Carpenter
4 DH Josh Donaldson
5 LF Andrew Benintendi
6 2B Gleyber Torres
7 CF Aaron Hicks
8 SS Isiah Kiner-Falefa
9 C Kyle Higashioka

This is fucking hilarious. If Cashman fucked up an amazing season by inexplicably trading a starting pitcher that would be unbelievable.

Well, except that Cole's given up three home runs.....
Yea, I've been stuck on the Cole homerun topic for years now. When he's off, he can't keep anything on the ground and gives up an incredible amount of bombs. His numbers prove it out, I think this is his 21st or 22nd homer allowed this season.

Cole is always prone to HR's as a fly ball pitcher. Yikes! You hate to see it...maybe.

However, it's still early and baseball is a funny game.

TOR lost too, still 10 up in the loss column with 56 left to play.
