Dr. Sticks! Tristan McKenzie got off to a rough start tonight, but his curve ball was unhittable after the 1st inning. He racked up a career-high 14 strikeouts (every White Sox batter struck out at least once), but if the Guardians don't score some runs, he'll take the loss. It's currently 2-1 in the bottom of the 7th.
...and they do just that. The Guardiac Kids have scored 4 runs with 2 out in the bottom of the 7th, and if the bullpen holds on McKenzie will get a win for his efforts. This is becoming a really fun team to watch.
In all my decades watching baseball, I think Jacob Stallings just made the worst play I have ever seen from a catcher.
1-1, bottom 8, Dodgers at 1st and 3rd, one out. The batter hits a grounder to third, and of course the play there is if you are not sure you can get a DP, go home and keep the game tied. That is what the 3B was about to do, when he realized that Stallings had VACATED THE POSITION to backup first on what he thought would be an attempted DP (it would have been close).

Actually I think the real reason is that the WS simply haven't been bad enough. They could still conceivably make the playoffs.

...but Eloy Jimenez has been very consistent (in his inability to stay on the field). Apparently there's no update yet since he limped off the field last night after hyper-extending his knee on a swing and a miss.
The problem with last night's intentional walk was entirely in regards to the count. If Diekman had fallen behind when Cleveland made the double steal, there's no question you want to face Owen Miller with a force at every base rather than Oscar Gonzalez with runners on 2nd & 3rd.
Unfortunately, Miller's line drive to right didn't have enough slice on it to really ridicule LaRussa this time.
