Bottom of the 8th in Cleveland, trailing 4-2: strikeout, strikeout, strikeout, but the runner reaches 1st on a wild pitch. Eight at-bats later they head to the 9th up 8-4.

Horrific pitching by the Rays.

Walking 10D to face Judge (not on purpose), then Fairbanks comes in and throws 4 straight balls.

Losers.

EDIT:
Wow, a DP ends it. Rays keep the lead. Crazy.

Not giving Judge anything to hit was the right move. There is no one else in that line up to be worried about right now. Then Torres grounds into a DP on the first pitch. That team is an absolute mess.

He's not Barry bonds out there. It worked out, but that terrible pitching to 10D beforehand was dreadful.

To be fair, that is probably about as hard as he can hit a baseball now. To him that must have felt like he crushed it out of the stadium. As it barely carried over the RF wall.

St. Louis
Albert Pujols has a pinch-hit Grand Slam and RBI single (so far) in the Cardinals day game against Colorado. It's 13-0 St. Louis in the 7th.

He's now one base away from tying Stan Musial for 2nd all time in Total Bases at 6,134. (Hank Aaron at 6,856 is #1.)

What is the official career home run record anymore? Is Bonds in the books with an asterisk or is it still considered the top mark?
It’s Bonds st 763. No *.
But as of now, 5 of the top 15 are not getting the votes for the HoF due to the juice.

Dr. Sticks! Tristan McKenzie got off to a rough start tonight, but his curve ball was unhittable after the 1st inning. He racked up a career-high 14 strikeouts (every White Sox batter struck out at least once), but if the Guardians don't score some runs, he'll take the loss. It's currently 2-1 in the bottom of the 7th.

...and they do just that. The Guardiac Kids have scored 4 runs with 2 out in the bottom of the 7th, and if the bullpen holds on McKenzie will get a win for his efforts. This is becoming a really fun team to watch.

In all my decades watching baseball, I think Jacob Stallings just made the worst play I have ever seen from a catcher.

1-1, bottom 8, Dodgers at 1st and 3rd, one out. The batter hits a grounder to third, and of course the play there is if you are not sure you can get a DP, go home and keep the game tied. That is what the 3B was about to do, when he realized that Stallings had VACATED THE POSITION to backup first on what he thought would be an attempted DP (it would have been close).

2-1 Dodgers, 2-1 final.

And Hader just blew up again, coming into a 3-3 game top 9 and leaving three batters later at 6-3 down. His last three outings combined now:

1.1 3 6 5 5 1

Wow. I don’t know how the front office is allowing him to continue managing at this point.
He's a Hall of Fame Baseball Person.

Actually I think the real reason is that the WS simply haven't been bad enough. They could still conceivably make the playoffs.

It's amazing how much that team has fallen off in a one year span. Here's how some of their key contributors did last year:

Grandal: .240/.420/.520, 155 OPS+, 3.7 bWAR in 375 PA
Moncada: .263/.375/.412, 116 OPS+, 4.0 bWAR in 616 PA
Giolito: 3.53 ERA, 124 ERA+, 1.10 WHIP, .270 BABIP allowed, 3.75 xFIP, 4.2 bWAR in 178.2 IP
Rodon: 2.37 ERA, 185 ERA+, 0.96 WHIP, 5.1 bWAR in 132.2 IP
Lynn: 2.69 ERA, 163 ERA+, 1.07 WHIP, 3.82 xFIP, .263 BABIP allowed, 5.3 bWAR in 157 IP

One year later:
Grandal: .202/.307/.258, 63 OPS+, -1.3 bWAR in 287 PA
Moncada: .203/.271/.326, 69 OPS+, 0.5 bWAR in 303 PA
Giolito: 5.34 ERA, 75 ERA+, 1.53 WHIP, .366 BABIP allowed, 3.62 xFIP, -0.3 bWAR in 116.1 IP
Rodon: 2.89 ERA, 139 ERA+, 1.05 WHIP, 4.2 bWAR in 140.1 IP... but for the Giants
Lynn: 5.30 ERA, 75 ERA+, 1.23 WHIP, .310 BABIP allowed, 3.41 xFIP, -0.3 bWAR in 71.1 IP

...but Eloy Jimenez has been very consistent (in his inability to stay on the field). Apparently there's no update yet since he limped off the field last night after hyper-extending his knee on a swing and a miss.

I think it’s ridiculous for LaRussa to have a managing job in 2022, but it should be noted that last night’s move worked at least, they got out of the inning on the next batter.

The problem with last night's intentional walk was entirely in regards to the count. If Diekman had fallen behind when Cleveland made the double steal, there's no question you want to face Owen Miller with a force at every base rather than Oscar Gonzalez with runners on 2nd & 3rd.

Unfortunately, Miller's line drive to right didn't have enough slice on it to really ridicule LaRussa this time.
