Life in the Negro Leagues was very nice, the little bit I saw of it.
As for this game, what a kick to see all of these guys again. And Baltimore looks like such a good team in contrast to the current squad.

So no one else is interested in these. Guess NESN was right to put them on at the crack of dawn. Tomorrow, 7 am, 9/20/17 Sox @ Orioles. Of course I have no memory of the significance of this game.

I tried to listen to a St. Patty's game between the Yankees and Red Sox last night on Nesn but the sound was problematic. I had to turn it off. Anyone else have issues? Directv here.

None this a.m. Also have DirecTV.
I fell asleep to this last night. It was 4/20/07 and they were wearing green to honor Red Auerbach. Passed out right before the Sox made their comeback. These semi-random replays are pleasant enough. You remember that Damon was a Yankee, of course, but forget that Doug Mientkiewicz was too.

I’m considering getting really into KBO baseball.

TBD, but Korea having had a much more effective response to COVID may actually be able to start their baseball season close to on time.

Looks like NESN is airing one classic game per day, first at 7AM and then again at 10PM.

They'll have the Buchholz no-hitter game again at 10PM tonight.
Tomorrow's game is the September 12, 2007 game against the Rays.
Friday's will be 9/22/07 against the Rays.

NESN+ will be airing the Red Sox Team of the Millennium documentary tonight at 10PM. And will surely be repeating a lot going forward. (Just noting it because it's Sox content that I haven't seen yet.)

Seems like they could air more of these games from their library. Sure wish they would air a 2018 game every day, in order as was suggested on another thread. Of course there is surely only a skeleton crew even working there anymore until the games start again.

It appears like NESN is using these classic games to cover the time that would otherwise be Sportsdesk or whatever their news show is called, since there's little news to report anyway. Eventually they're going to have to fill the time that would have been live Sox games so I would expect them to ramp up the use of old games. Perhaps they've got producers working through the archives now so that they can deepen the rotation by Opening Day.

Right now, MLB showing Cubs-Phils from May 17, 1979. Looks like this will be a very high scoring affair.

Thanks for this! My YTTV DVR is set to record all MLB games, but this is titled "All-Time Games," and has to be recorded separately.

Watched a lot of that game at an outdoor pool/bar in Orlando. It was a Friday night. They won again on Saturday, then Sunday was an ESPN night game. That was the 4 homers in a row game!

Best part of that game for me was Peter Gammons saying an inning before what promise Chase Wright, the Yankee starter, had....30 minutes later he was in the minors. Believe he only appeared in one more big league game.

I'm not sure if this is on the radar of most SoSH users yet, but there's a way to find any MLB game since 2009 on the official MLB Youtube channel. Here is the Reddit link with the information, but the gist is basically:

In order to find a game, your search has to be in the following format:
  • XXX AT YYY - Month DD, YYYY
Where:
  • XXX is the official 3-letter code for the visiting team
  • YYY is the official 3-letter code for the home team

  • Tampa Bay is "TBA" not "TBR" or "TAM"
  • The Yankees are "NYA", not "NYY"
  • The Mets are "NYN", not "NYM"
  • The Giants are "SFN", not "SFG"
  • The Royals are "KCA", not "KCR"
  • Cubs/White Sox are "CHN" and "CHA", respectively
There are a few other full games of interest scattered around Youtube. I'm currently watching the 5/28/00 Pedro vs. Clemens matchup at the toilet.

Thanks for this! I have the Rays v Sox from Patriots Day 2013 playing in the background while I work through my afternoon.

Yeah a defined time, with link, when we'll start watching a particular game.

I wouldn't mind reliving some Greatest Hits, or just following along with the frequent ups and rare downs of the 2018 season

Absolutely. Could just be this one, as far as I'm concerned.
I just watched the last 2 and 1/2 innings of the WBC semi-finals, 2017, U.S. v Japan, mlbn, and it was fun seeing Mark Melancon screw up as I predicted and have to be rescued. And who the hell is Luke Gregerson? I've looked him up, and he's apparently unsigned atm. He was really masterful getting the save.

My memory of 2013 is that they were good and fun to watch from the get-go. That's my favorite team.

Not that it matters to anyone, but Luke Gregerson is the pride of the town I've live in for the past 31 years. My daughter was friends with his little sister in high school. I don't know if he has anything left, but he used to be pretty damn good.

My memory of 2013 is that they were good and fun to watch from the get-go. That's my favorite team.
2004, was historic, 2007 was prolific, 2018 was the best ever, but damn, that 2013 team was an absolute delight to watch.

The '13 Sox against the Rays, alds, continues to be fun, as the Sox contribute to David Price's post-season reputation. Six runs against him in five. Edit: add a gorgeous Big Papi homer to begin the sixth. Final edit: KOJI!!!

Of all four WS closers, I think Koji was the most fun to watch.

I dunno, Foulke was RIVETING in 2004. The length. The effectiveness. The end.
I don’t know. Does riveting equal fun? I was living and dying (a lot of dying) with each of Foulke’s pitches, but I don’t know how much “fun” I was having at the time.

Edit- typo

16 baserunners in 14 IP. He wasn’t totally lights out but we’re not talking about a guy who was escaping huge jams left and right.

I've posted this before, but look at these three guys' closer runs during the playoffs for the Sox in 2004, 2007, and 2013:

Foulke: 11g, 14.0 ip, 7 h, 1 r, 1 er, 8 bb, 19 k, 0.64 era, 1.07 whip, 12.2 k/9, 3-4 saves
Papelbon: 7 g, 10.2 ip, 5 h, 0 r, 0 er, 4 bb, 7 k, 0.00 era, 0.84 whip, 5.9 k/9, 4-4 saves, 1-0 W-L
Koji: 13 g, 13.2 ip, 7 h, 1 r, 1 er, 1 bb, 16 k, 0.66 era, 0.59 whip, 10.5 k/9, 7-7 saves, 1-1

Folk had the most innings and the best k/9, and arguably the most pressure.
Papelbon gave up zero runs - hard to do any better than that.
Koji gave up the fewest baserunners and had the most saves.

All depends on what you favor most. They were all totally dominant. Their combined line, btw:

31 g, 38.1 ip, 19 h, 2 r, 2 er, 13 bb, 42 k, 0.47 era, 0.83 whip, 9.9 k/9, 14-15 saves, 2-1 W-L

I mean....come on now.

And....then there's Kimbrel in 2018: 9 g, 10.2 ip, 9 h, 7 r, 7 er, 8 bb, 10 k, 5.91 era, 1.59 whip, 8.4 k/9

2004 Foulke
2007 Papelbon
2013 Koji
2018 Kimbrel

One of these things is not like the other.

I dunno, Foulke was RIVETING in 2004. The length. The effectiveness. The end.
He was, but that's only because our previous experiences for people in that role were total arsonists. He was the first one we'd had who inspired ANY confidence. And his epic 3-game run in ALCS games 4/5/6, combined with the following week, basically toasted his career, so his arm died a hero. (or was it his knee?)

But by comparison, Hideki Okerjeemer and especially Koji Uehara (soon) were vintage Mariano Rivera out there. I mean, a relief pitcher was named ALCS MVP, that's a pretty short list to be on, one that includes Eck and Fingers and Rivera. I bet that award has greater pride of place in Uehara's home than his WS ring.

edit: also, did someone say Papelbon?

Can we all agree Kimbrel was the least fun?
