The Royals do have a lot of pitching in the upper minors. As someone who likes Benintendi on a lot of levels, some of them irrational, this could make a lot of sense.

The only way this seems to make sense is if they are clearing money to resign JBJ. Otherwise, they seem to be short an OF, unless Like is going to CF, with Verdugo in RF and Renfroe in LF. And then ? at 2b.

Not sure I like this - I'm bullish on a Benny bounce back, But will wait to see what's coming back.

We'll always have that catch in Houston. Man, I wish it had worked out here.

Sox getting Franchy Cordero plus more. I like Franchy Cordero.
Honest, non-snarky question: Why?

He's the same age as Benintendi, he's never been able to stick in the majors, and his minor-league numbers are nothing great -- with a bad walk-to-strikeout ratio. What am I missing?

According to Baseball Trade Values, Lee is the most valuable of the named pieces so far. I wonder what the Mets are giving up?

Median Values:
Lee: 9.3
Beni: 4.6
Cordero: 3.5

Edwin Diaz for the pen?

The reason he's never been able to stick is health -- he keeps getting hurt. But he's got power and speed, can play a legit CF, and is under control through 2023.

Sox have to be getting more back than Cordero, right?
Presumably we're getting something from NY that's worth Khalil Lee, a guy who has been on a top-100 prospect list, but wasn't last year after he kind of stalled in AA.

(So... something, but not a ton.)

So....the Sox are covering Benny’s salary and not getting anything worth while back? Not exactly awe inspiring

Winckowski was the Mets' #26 prospect, per MLB pipeline. Before that, he was Toronto's #27 prospect (traded to NYM in the Steven Matz trade).

Winckowski was a 15th-round Draft pick out of a Florida high school in 2016. In 2018, he was the Pitcher of the Year in the Class A Short Season Northwest League (4-5, 2.78 ERA with 71 strikeouts over 68 innings), and the next year he was an All-Star in the Class A Midwest League (6-3, 2.32) before earning a promotion to the Florida State League (4-5, 3.19). At 6-foot-4, the 22-year-old throws a sinking fastball in the low 90s complemented by a 55-grade slider and an improving changeup.

Kinda sounds like a description of Andrew Benintendi, no?
Well, Benintendi has never had plus power, he hasn't had plus speed since 2019, he can barely play a decent LF let alone CF, and is under control through 2022. Otherwise...
