Now do Krejci.

(phew, i'm not ready to live in a world where Patrice Bergeron is not playing hockey)

I'm guessing the family business is all settled and we'll get a slow trickle of news. A lot of theories were Pasta's extension was the first order of business so they could prepare for teh Bergeron/Krejci overages.

The incentive is 10 games played and he gets the $2.5 million. Creative.

That's how they've always done these. Chara (more than once) and Iginla each had the 10-game clause to get their full bonus.

For accounting purposes, $2.25 under the cap for a 22 man roster. Zacha and possibly Krejci left to sign. Zacha's arb hearing is on Thursday so we likely get that news soon.

Fantastic. As if we all didn't appreciate Bergy enough as it is he just goes another yard.

Still need to move someone I think. Would still prefer moving D man now while there are options to trade.

A Foligno buyout would be another way to make room for Krejci and/or sign Zacha.
But maybe where it had been reported that Bergeron helped convince Foligno to sign with the B's in the first place, it would make for a bit of an awkward situation?

Nick Foligno Reveals How Patrice Bergeron Factored Into Free Agency Decision
The door is shut on buying out Foligno. They had the option to do so early in the offseason and didn't. There is a possible second window they could get if Zacha actually gets to the arb hearing, but for the 2nd window teams can only buyout players making more than $4 million. Foligno makes $3.8 million.

Thanks for the heads up. I see that clause now on Cap Friendly.

Bit cheeky with the bonus. Feels like a 1980's 49ers salary move. Love that he's back, he's got one more good one in him. Please stay healthy.

So the NHL doesn't have the NFL's LTBE/NLTBE kinda thing for cap purposes? Would seem to be prudent. Krejci could get away with whatever, but Bergeron they'd be boned.

It's pretty standard in the NHL, this is not even the first time the Bruins have done it. They did it a few times with Chara when he started going year-to-year contract wise and they also used it with Iginla.

It's got to be one of Foligno, Smith, Forbort and Reilly that gets moved right?

Assuming little to no chance on Foligno however at least not without 50 percent retention which won't clear enough space.

Andy Brickley's potty mouth
It really seemed that Bergy was done by his demeanor in the last game. I didn't watch nearly enough Bruins games last season and feel like I shouldn't be rewarded for that, but this is amazing news and I'm definitely going to watch a ton this year and soak it in.

Bergy did his press conference.

Said he couldn't envision game 7 against Carolina being his last game. Fire, passion and desire are still there. Said "one more year" a bunch but also non-commital on it actually being his last year. He said he's fortunate to have made more money than he ever could've dreamed of, leaving a few dollars on the table so they could ice a good team was no biggie and something that started here before him. Had elbow surgery but should be ready for camp. He was asked if he talked to other teams, specifically Montreal due to the Hughes connection and he chuckled and said Hughes knew not to bother (good call, Amonte).

He did say he told Sweeney his decision before 7/13 (UFA).

Basically sounds like he said and did all the things we all think we would do if so blessed with the talent to earn megabucks playing a game we loved as kids.

Great read, basically proves everything I've thought about him coming from his teammates. Bergy has always been my favorite athlete by a mile. Saw him in Whole Foods in Beacon Hill back in the mid 2000's in the line next to me and its the only time I've ever been excited to see an athlete/celeb in person.

I will say though, seeing this thread bumped scared me a little bit haha
