It's what's been happening to discourse in this country in the last 10-20 years, no one can ever admit a mistake or say that they were wrong (without a caveat) or reverse course on thinking. If they do, they look "weak" because of course, your first thought is always the correct one.

So people dig their heals in and will defend their original thought even though it's been proven over and over and over and over and over again that it's incorrect.

Exhibit A is Nick Cafardo and Bobby Valentine.
I was wrong.
I thought Nick Cafardo would simply leave the mouldy wraps in the dumpster, not pull them out and say "Hey this part here is possibly edible!"

Aviles got dfa'd by the Marlins today. Maybe he can come back and play 3rd and call everyone off to his hearts content.
This team hasn't replaced his calf muscle since.

Getting back on topic.

Mr V replies to Papi this article

Two quotes from there:

Valentine couldn’t believe Ortiz remembered seeing his manager “roll his eyes.” But, again, that doesn’t mean Valentine thinks Ortiz’ memory was off.

“That’s amazing,” Valentine said. “I probably did roll my eyes when he said a major league guy was crying in his locker because he got yelled at. That’s a roll-my-eye moment for me. I don’t know, it’s one of those: He’s going to quit on the team unless you apologize to him.”
And

Despite what Ortiz said about the 2012 campaign, Valentine still didn’t think his team quit. They were two games over .500 through 104 games, with a team that had what Valentine called “the most injuries in the history of baseball.” Soon after, the team fell off the rails and finished 69-93.

But Valentine maintained his players didn’t quit.
So he says he was right and that it was the 2012 Sox debacle was not his fault (granted not everything that happened can be blamed on him). I am one of the guys who thought he might be a good choice, and have since changed my mind. And nowhere in the article does he refer to the fact that he did say that David Ortiz quit.

… just another example of why new threads are good.

Perhaps some sort of auto-lock feature should close off old threads after a certain length of time?
I generally agree, but man, this time it was worth it just to get to see Stiffy's post above. Damn I miss that guy.

Hey, I just finished reading the SI story without realizing it was years old. I may well have read the thread back in 2017, but I honestly don't remember it. Cognitive decline?
