Brady liked the New Year's Resolution lady.
View: https://twitter.com/TomBrady/status/1475871581293400072

“I want to be as brave and courageous as she was asking that question to Coach Belichick after a loss,” Brady jokingly said on the latest edition of SiriusXM’s Let’s Go! podcast. “That’s what I want for the new year. That was awesome. Good for her.”
Brady said Belichick’s terse response to the reporter didn’t come as much of a surprise. “I could have predicted that answer. That’s usually not the best time to ask a coach things like that after a tough loss.”

The Bills outplayed the Pats right from the opening play til the end. And yet....the Pats were one easy interception by the guy with the most interceptions in the NFL over the past few years (JC Jackson) away from quite possibly (likely?) winning that game. The Pats had just cut the lead to 26-21, the crowd was in a frenzy, and Buffalo had the ball at their own 25 with 7:37 left. First play, Allen overthrows Diggs and Jackson has it RIGHT IN HIS HANDS. And drops it. I don't know if he would have taken it to the house, but it would have been, at a minimum, New England ball at the Buffalo 33 or so with less than seven and a half minutes to go.

So yeah, as badly as Buffalo outplayed the Patriots, that game was still right there for the taking. So the Pats didn't need a perfect game. They basically needed JC Jackson to hold on to the football that was thrown right into his hands.
Sure but that play happened with what, 7 minutes left in the game? Let’s assume that JC makes the pick and the pats go ahead. Buffalo would have had about 3-4 minutes left… maybe more. Buffalo would have only needed a FG to tie/win (depending on the pats 2pt attempt). Nothing the Patriots D did in this game tells me that they would have stopped the bills from driving into the red zone like they did on every drive they had that game.

Yes. I guess I meant, if I were Belichick's friend, I wouldn't expect to be his friend much longer if I put our texts up on Twitter

Ahhh...got it. That's just one reason (of two) you never see *me* posting any texts here that I receive from Bill Belichick.

wasn't it Spikes who said something about "4 years a slave".
To see him texting "coach" seems odd
I think it was. But IIRC, Spikes later said some things about BB and NE that suggested some contrition. (It could have been a different player, though.)

It was Spikes. He even came back to NE for a second stint, but it was extremely brief because he had a legal issue IIRC

Belichick and Spikes continued some kind of relationship even after that, as detailed in this very interesting Athletic article:
https://theathletic.com/2168964/2020/10/30/brandon-spikes-patriots-david-canter/

“Honestly, I’ve never felt like this, I wanted to give up. I really did until I reached out to Bill,” Spikes said. “I reached out to everybody, people I trusted and loved, and they just couldn’t give me an answer why I wasn’t in the league. So I was like, ‘Fuck it, I’m about to call Bill.’ So I called Bill Belichick, and of course, he answered on the first ring. I was like, ‘What, you picked up my phone call?’ I couldn’t believe it. I hadn’t spoken to him since the incident. It’s been a while. I asked, ‘Hey coach, how do I get back in the league? I’m starving. I’m itching. I know I can still go. I know I can play at a high level. Can I come back there?’ He’s like, ‘Well, you can’t come back here. We tried that, and you see what happened.’

“I was like, ‘Hell, Bill, I’ll even go to the CFL. I’ve just got to get around the guys, man. I miss the camaraderie. I was doing well with the stock market, but I was by myself. I’m used to being part of a team. It just wasn’t doing it for me. I’ll go to the CFL if you’ve got any plugs up there.’ He laughed and was like, ‘You’re not playing in the fucking CFL. I’ve got an agent (to recommend), a guy named David Canter.’”

Bill doesn't think much about your concerns about the coaching staff

“I don’t see it any differently than it was in the last 22 years,” Belichick said. “Look at our other offensive coordinators. We had Charlie [Weis]. Then Josh. He’d never called offensive plays. Billy O’Brien [who succeeded McDaniels] never called plays in the NFL. Josh came back. We’ve changed coaches in every area, multiple times. Defensively, Matt Patricia had never called plays. Then he won a couple of Super Bowls. Brian Flores [who succeeded Patricia] had never called plays. That worked out all right. Steve [Belichick] has been calling defenses. We were pretty high up there statistically last year. We didn’t play well obviously in the Buffalo game and a couple of other games, but I wouldn’t say we had a bad year defensively. At least not statistically. We have plenty of coaches that didn’t have previous experience and it’s worked out pretty well with most of them, but not all of them.”
There’s way more publication and air time and blogs and everything else than there is actual news. So there’s a lot of opinions and a lot of stuff out there. I don’t know how newsworthy it is. It’s the world we live in.”

Love love love BB - never constrained to conventional thinking - and always evolving, even now at his age. Develops both players and coaches, gives them leash., then uses mistakes for teaching moments. Not perfect (and he's the first to admit it). - but we're all beyond lucky to have this man coaching our professional football team.

Not naming a coordinator is friggin awesome. Even better, he catches all this ridic heat for it but doesn't give two shits. The culture is earn it, whether a free agent, UDFA, high draft pick or a coaching assistant.

BB can operate that way because he has the ultimate job security in the NFL. It mayyyyyy have been a little tenuous if it was a choice between him or Brady, but they ship has sailed. Kraft may be frustrated about not having won a playoff game since the last SB win, which was - gasp! - 3 1/2 years ago, but he’s not stupid. He knows how good BB is.

This is why Bill is the best. He tells them to ask the medical professionals even though he knows that they're never going to put them in front of microphones. Then he claims that he doesn't know Mac's status because it's of no significance to him, even though we know that's a load of horse cock. What can you do?

As expected, Mac Jones was listed as DNP for today's practice, and he has not been placed on IR. As far as Bill is concerned, that is all anyone needs to know.

I don't know, I never got what is to be gained by the contempt with the media asking completely reasonable questions about a player's injury status. Not saying Bill needs to be forthright or go into detail over what Mac's diagnosis and expected absence are (though some coaches do that and I don't think it's a competitive advantage not to), but just being a prick for no reason?

These responses are typically when Belichick has been asked the same question 3 or 4 times. Sure enough, according to the transcript, his quote was in response to the 3rd or 4th question about the injury:

https://www.patriots.com/news/transcript-bill-belichick-press-conference-x3122

Belichick feels there is nothing to be gained by giving the media information on injuries beyond the bare minimum. Given how often the media operates in bad faith when it comes to taking quotes out of context or incorrectly parsing words (in general, not just in sports), I cannot say I blame him.

Lol. Not sure who is giving out less - BB, or Optus Customer Call Centre… his answers are short and curt. Their answers, long and flowery, are equally content free.
Honestly, I don't envy those Optus call centre folks, coaches know what they signed up for, those people at the Optus CC are not being paid enough to deal with the shit that was due to something that they had no control over (due to Optus IT being dumb). yes they are CC employees, but they are probably being berated by folks who should be directing their anger to the Lax IT at Optus (they rightfully should be angry, but don't lash out at the folks, who are being forced to deal with the blowback from the suits at corp

Especially since he started the press conference inviting a conversation about the history of the Packers franchise.

EDIT: You have to listen to the video. "Day. By. Day." lol

We laugh, but every second Bill is praising his opponent is a second he is:

1) Highlighting the strengths his own team may be underestimating in the buildup to the game.

2) Possibly giving the opponent a false sense of confidence by not only praising them but sharing a detailed knowledge of their strengths. I mean, if you don’t think Justin Fields is going to see these comments and think “yeah, I’m a goddamn threat anytime I touch the ball!“ then you aren’t paying attention.

3) Not discussing his own team. The greatest filibuster of all is flattery.

This is 100% a deliberate strategy. And it is never not awesome.

And he does it every week of every season for every opponent.

What I also love about these sessions is that it illustrates just how much Belichick knows about the next opponent and how familiar he is with basically all of their tendencies. It sometimes seems that Belichick can go in depth on his opponents almost as well as the opponent's head coach can on his own team. Great stuff
