@ESPNSteinLine: ESPN sources say that the Cavs are in process of trading for Boston's Keith Bogan

@ESPNSteinLine: Sources say Cavs are expected to package their three non-guaranteed deals (Erik Murphy, John Lucas and Malcolm Thomas) in trade for KBogans

I don't get this.  Are they actually planning to play Bogans?  They must be, otherwise it makes zero sense.
Same reasoning as the Haywood acquisition. Both have completely non-guaranteed salaries and are very appealing for salary match purposes in a trade.

2 2nd round picks, and Powell the cavs 2nd round pick this year for a guy the Cs weren't going to use anyway seems like a pretty nice win (assuming they just release the 3 non guaranteeds)

But the reshuffling of dross in this case also netted the Celtics two second round picks. For Bogans, a grilled cheese sandwich would have been a good return. So even two late second rounders look fine to me.

They were reducing the payroll to facilitate the Turner signing while still netting a small TPE.

1.  They got under the luxury tax threshhold (which they could have done by simply waiving Bogans).
2. They exchanged two unprotected second round picks for two top-55 protected second round picks.  Who knows? Maybe LeBron breaks his leg or leaves after 2 years.
3. They generated at 5.3M trade exception (presumably they used their small TPE from the Courtney Lee deal to acquire Lucas).
4. Dwight Powell has potential: 6-11, fairly athletic.

I was sorry to see Chris Johnson go, but it was almost inevitable once they agreed to terms with Evan Turner.

Dopes - split out Bogans trade talk?

The Paul Pierce component of the trade still paying dividends.

1) Paul Pierce for 10M TPE + Bogans + 2016 1st-round pick (for argument's sake... distribution of picks among component BOS-BKN sub-trades is unknown/unimportant).
2) 10M TPE for Zeller + Thornton + 2016 1st round pick
3) Bogans for 5M TPE (Because the TPE was created, we know that the other players are all separate trades, which explains how the Sac picks were also included.)

So:

Pierce ---> Thornton + Zeller + 5M TPE + 2 2016 1st rounders.

The TPE or the picks could turn into something fun, too. The Pierce trade is the energizer bunny. We still have a few years left to see what happens to all of it.

As for Cleveland... they may want to salvage Bogans, but even if they don't, they could get instant salary relief (if I understand his contract correctly, he can be waived until the season starts) or be another salary-match trade asset.

EDIT: To elaborate on #3, assuming I understand this trade correctly... Individual minimum salaried players can be traded without balancing salary (but they do need something in exchange, ergo Sacramento picks), which allows the Celtics to avoid having all those non-guaranteed contracts "deduct" from the TPE.

There is no salvaging Bogans and I doubt he ever even gets on a plane to Cleveland. His value is purely as a matching expiring salary that saves another team some cash in exchange for a veteran who fills a need for the Cavs once they have some answers to certain questions.

It's amazing how a completely useless player like Bogans can prolong his NBA playing career for two years and millions of dollars without providing any on-court utility to any team anywhere. Keith loves the Trade Calculator!

Apparently Bogans has been retraded by Cleveland to Philly along with a second round pick. No one is reporting what the Sixers have sent back.  Maybe just cash.

Crazy that he has parlayed his inability to play basketball into a $5 million paid vacation.

Wow It's like they were told immediately prior to the photo shoot that their value to the franchise was in their expiring contracts. I kinda enjoyed the KG, Allen, Terry pic better.

I'm hoping that he can keep the career going for another 5-6 years and $30 million, all without actually suiting up for a game.
