Laing, a native of Marblehead, was the Boston Pride player taken off the ice on a stretcher after going into the boards during the Outdoor Women's Classic in Foxboro on December 31.

The National Women's Hockey League issued the following statement on Friday updating the condition of Boston Pride forward Denna Laing, who was injured while playing in the inaugural Outdoor Women's Classic on Dec. 31:

"Boston Pride forward Denna Laing suffered a significant spinal injury during last Friday’s Outdoor Women’s Classic at Gillette Stadium. Doctors continue to evaluate her status."

The NWHL also released the following statement on behalf of Denna Laing's family...

Jerilyn and Dennis Laing: "Denna was thrilled to be taking part in the inaugural season of the National Women's Hockey League and was absolutely delighted to be one of the pioneers in a breakthrough moment for her sport -- the Outdoor Women's Classic. Tragically, Denna suffered a severe spinal cord injury playing the sport she loves. As of today, Denna has limited movement of her arms and no feeling in her legs. Our prayer going forward is that Denna can be moved from the Intensive Care Unit to a Rehabilitation Center and continue to fight every day with her trademark grit and resolve. With respect to her long-term prognosis, right now there are more questions than answers. We have received an incredible outpouring of love and support from countless friends and family members while we try to navigate this overwhelming situation. We are eternally grateful to everyone who continues to offer support as we take on this challenge together."

Gary Bettman, the Boston Bruins, Montreal Canadians, and New England Patriots also issued statements in support of Laing.

I know this is a Bruins forum, I thought the members of the hockey community here would like to know that a web site has been set up where anyone can send messages or donations of support for Laing at www.dennalaing.org

Thanks Nuf. One thing to note is that the game was not sanctioned by USA hockey so their insurance doesn't apply. Not sure what her situation is there insurance wise too.

Hopefully she ends up ok.

I had read somewhere that the game was almost cancelled due to insurance issues for the Canadian team. The Pride players already had insurance. The hockey community rallies around these tragedies better than any other sport.

Here's to hoping that she receives all the resources necessary to achieve a full recovery.

I'm too lazy to make all of the links. But just in case people aren't keeping up:

- Laing can speak but still has limited feeling in her arms and none in her legs. Her prognosis is still quite uncertain.
- Jacobs and the Bruins pledged $200K immediately for her treatment, with the allusion of more to come as she progresses
- The Canadiens offered a nice tribute to her before Tuesday's game, and Mike Condon got the team to sign a jersey for her. Those bastards are really pissing me off in dulling my ability to hate them.

Also, Big z visited yesterday

I have a friend who plays on the Pride and she says the ice Thursday was dangerously unplayable. Could be hindsight/bias, but Seidenberg and others complained about the quality of the ice for the game Friday.
