Boston’s taxing pursuit of Juan Soto is over. (Mets)

If they were truly in this per reports, that's good but its not enough. Its been years since this team is relevant. Would this fanbase tolerate a player who hasn't produced in half a decade?

When did I ever say I cared about ownerships profits
The only fun I was poking was you making rules about what other people can post.
Not making rules. It'll just torture me to have to listen to that.

Get everyone into the same building to do best and final offers, make a decision, and have a press conference.
Manfred: “And do you, Steve Cohen, take Juan Soto to be your right fielder, to love and to cherish…”

Cohen: “Yes, yes already! Let’s move this along!”

Manfred: “If anyone objects to this union, let them speak now, or forever hold their peace.”

Friedman: “I object! Twenty years, a billion dollars! I’m sorry… I love him! Juan… Juan… you know we were always meant to be… please… let’s run off together, out west…”

Soto: “Okay, this shit is getting too weird. What was Boston’s offer again?”

I suspect that no team is "out" unless/until they say so themselves (not through leaks and anonymous quotes). All of the media reports are coming from sources, assuming they're actually sourced at all, that have an angle to work. Either it's Boras/Soto who have every reason for all teams to be in as long as possible or teams that have every reason to try to undermine their competitors in one way or another.

You don't even have to though? Nobody should be offering more than 14 years / $550 million. Shohei Ohtani got $700 million, and he's an absolute unicorn. He's the best hitter in baseball - possessing all five tools and then some - and is a top-15 starting pitcher when he's healthy. In no world should Soto surpass him.
You have a great solo on "There Was A Time" but I'm not sure you understand how market value for players increases each year.

If that's the best they can feed to Carrabis then we are COOKED. Based on the description of our chances given by Stats, either we're further away from the top bidders than we thought or, worse, we need to beat the top bidders to have a chance because the "I wanna play here discount" is very much not in our favor.
I take each and every one of these updates with a huge grain of salt. I'm not sure what you're reading into this that has you all concerned.

I think the Red Sox would have to beat the Yankees offer to have a chance. I still think the Yankees had him all the way.

And "Stats" is plugged in enough to know the team's chances how? I know he's a prolific stats guy but how is he an insider that should be trusted more than any other twitter account claiming to know what's going on (including Carrabis)?

Alot of the local guys are now telling us the Red Sox are still in it. Don’t know why, but this actually makes me feel worse. Almost like damage control .

No team is going to be out because there’s no reason to “eliminate teams” by Soto or Boras. That would only serve to erode their leverage.

Stop letting your facts get in the way of being hysterical over nothing.
Not sure how those are facts? No idea what will happen but Stats generally tells it like it is. I think the longer this goes on the more likely it is that he goes back to NYY (something I didn’t think would happen throughout this process)

The people predicting and/or dead certain the Sox won’t get Soto are going to feel so damn vindicated if the Sox don’t get Soto. They told us so and they knew all along! That (plus a Starbucks coffee) is worth about five dollars. (Ithink? How much is Starbucks?)

I’m hoping the naysayers or realists or whatever are wrong. Come to us, Soto!

What’s Pollyanna-ish optimism worth these days? More or less then a cup of coffee?

Shouldn’t we wait for the medical examiner to confirm cause of death before conducting post-mortems?
We should wait until death is declared certainly, but cause of death discussions will be all spin. He was always going to NYY, and Boras just used the others to drive up the price. OR Cohen was never going to be beaten. Sox are cheap. Sox are wise for not overextended for this one guy. Look how hard we tried, etc.

If we remain outside of the top 10 in salary spend, the FO will be called cheap and justifiably so.

My only disagreement with the above is that it’s conditioned on an outcome that is not known.

I get it - people are preparing as a defense mechanism. Just seems like it might be easier on the psyche to respond to facts rather than assumptions.

I want him, and until today I thought we had a lane. Vindication is the least of things I'm interested in feeling right now.

The chances of Cohen just getting fed up and saying Screw it, 800 Million dollars it is.

If you had asked me last week Id say 5%?

Now Id say 50%.

I think slightly more because it feels slightly less like rooting against your own team for the sake of self aggrandizement.
good lord. Maybe some people just don’t think he will come here? Connecting dots on their own? Or they just aren’t as good of a fan as you are.

EDIT: and being negative is self aggrandizement on this board? That’s absolutely ridiculous
