I’m not sure having a demanding, time consuming job that makes showing up at every game impossible equates to forgoing parenting. I would imagine he makes as many as he can. Lots of NFL coaches seem to find a way to do that.Pretty reasonable take...I don't purport to know what his or anyone's marriage is like. So there's no way I would try to take the temperature "there".
However, one thing is for certain; Brady has decided to forego fatherhood towards a (now teenage and high school aged) son who is participating in competitive sports --- in order to continue playing football.
That cannot be debated / needs background info.
Its a free message board and people can do whatever they want.Of course but welcome to the world of 2022.
People enjoy watching celebrities from the cheap seats and commenting, making half-assed judgments. It's what people do. We have no idea what happened with Kim and Kanye but people like to think they do.
The popular narrative from the outside looking in will be that Brady blew it with an ultra-rich super model, his family and kids are in tatters due to his ego and it was all to come back and look like dogshit for a bad team in prime time every week. It looks like a massive own goal from the outside. Is it as simple as that? Of course not and we'll likely know the full story but that's what it looks like and so most will go with that storyline for now until proven otherwise.
As it pertains to Tom Brady and your average NFL coach; those two things are apples and oranges in my opinion.I’m not sure having a demanding, time consuming job that makes showing up at every game impossible equates to forgoing parenting. Yes, obviously they’re on a different economic level. Although most long term head coaches also have a pretty high degree of financial security. But the hours required for a coach are longer than they are for a star QB. And I don’t think having to work, or not, is particularly relevant either way. None of us are in any position to judge what kind of parent Brady is. We don’t know anything about his day to day interaction with his children, and there’s more than one way to do that job well.As it pertains to Tom Brady and your average NFL coach; those two things are apples and oranges in my opinion.
One can walk away, be a dad and husband, have a combined net worth with his (soon to be ex) wife of $450-500 million, and go down as one of the greatest professional athletes in the history of American Sports.
The other needs to always bump and grind to make a salary, be prepared to change organizations and time-zones, and balance the challenges of a grueling job where success is a tenure that is greater than 3+ years in a role.
Probably true. And I think they’ll both be just fine. Two very strong, successful people who seem to have made primarily good decisions in their lives. I think this also makes it likely Brady plays to 47 or 48.I can't help but think this is a relief to both to have this behind them, it can't be easy having people speculate hourly on their every move. They're done, hopefully both can successfully move on.
The bolded will depend entirely on his physical wherewithal to keep taking punishment, and perform at a high level. I would call both a major crap shoot for a guy in his late 40's. I would say, though, that it seems more and more likely he'll be told at some point he can't play anymore, rather than leaving on his own terms.Probably true. And I think they’ll both be just fine. Replacing Jimmy G at age 46 seems, amazingly, still on the table to me.It's going to be an interesting off season for Brady.
I don't know if he would be able to find as good a turnkey situation as he found going into to Tampa in 2020. But if he's willing to keep playing for 1/30 and no franchise, he's extremely portable and I would think he would have plenty of teams looking to catch lightening -- teams with good teams built around average QBs.
I know Tua has won some games, but I still think it’s the most likely scenario. Tua is not a guy I’d build around, I think the other talent is carrying him.Replacing Jimmy G at age 46 seems, amazingly, still on the table to me.
Would Brady be comfortable playing with a guy like Tyreek Hill though?I know Tua has won some games, but I still think it’s the most likely scenario. Tua is not a guy I’d build around, I think the other talent is carrying him.
Maybe add Philly if Hurts somehow stumbles in the postseason but the team otherwise seems to have the pieces. Oakland could also make some sense.Assuming Brady does want to play beyond this year and not with Tampa, there are a few options that jump out:
SF: Loaded offense akin to his Tampa move and back home in Northern California. That has to have some appeal to him.
Miami: If Tua is concussed or just doesn't perform, another situation that would be a good spot and not a far move. If Gisele makes Florida her home base, then Brady could be closer to kids.
NYG: If Danny Dimes doesn't return, they'll need a QB and probably would gladly take Brady as a short-term solution. He also seems to have an affinity for NYC.
Seattle: Looking better than expected with Geno and have some nice talent at WR. Might need a short-term solution assuming they nab a QB in the draft.
He ain't going to Indy, New Orleans, or any other situation that looks like a rebuild.
Yeah, my guess is he’d compartmentalize and have no issues throwing TD passes to him. Not on the same level of reprehensible, but he enthusiastically embraced AB. At least initially. Unless your question is ironical.Would Brady be comfortable playing with a guy like Tyreek Hill though?
Or maybe Brady will just invite Hill to move in with him and his kids? That way he can know for sure.Yeah, my guess is he’d compartmentalize and have no issues throwing TD passes to him. One of the many assumptions we have made here.Regardless of the details of his marriage, I think his preference would involve somewhere that isn't a cross-country trip from his children.
At least it's a benevolent one.One of the many assumptions we have made here.
True. And it may (or may not) be more correct than the othersAt least it's a benevolent one.
What a wild test for Bill’s ego. If Brady comes back it’s SB or bust, but if we win with Brady back at the helm after a couple years in the wildernesses without him, that adds some fire to the ridiculous Bill is nothing without Tom narrative. Is New England really unthinkable as a 2023 destination for TB12?
He's beloved up here by the fan base and by Bob Kraft. He has repeatedly acknowledged how Belichick and he were a great team. And as for BB, all he cares about is winning and if he feels Brady can give him a better shot at that as he makes his final run at Shula, he won't hesitate.
It's not unthinkable Mac could benefit from a couple years playing behind TB12.
Brady would be comfortable with JIm TyrerWould Brady be comfortable playing with a guy like Tyreek Hill though?
No, I don't think its unthinkable. Highly unlikely, but yeah not out of the realm of possibility. Is New England really unthinkable as a 2023 destination for TB12?

Imagine Matty P and Joe Judge trying to coach Brady? No, I don't think its unthinkable. Highly unlikely, but yeah not out of the realm of possibility.
More like the other way around.Imagine Matty P and Joe Judge trying to coach Brady?
Good. A boy can dream. No, I don't think its unthinkable. Highly unlikely, but yeah not out of the realm of possibility.
No way. I mean, I'm just guessing like anyone else, but I just don't see this as being possible. Too much ego and water under the bridge. Is New England really unthinkable as a 2023 destination for TB12?
Yeah, short of Mac, Bailey, Hoyer, and Cam Newton going down together in a plane crash, bringing TB back would be the ultimate disruption in transitioning the team into whatever is next for them. And from a purely pragmatic point of view, the odds of winning another SB with Brady and the roster circa '23 are dwarfed by the likelihood that shit goes south. No way. I mean, I'm just guessing like anyone else, but I just don't see this as being possible. Too much ego and water under the bridge.
Water under the bridge implies that there are hard feelings, which is not what I'm trying to say or claim that I know to be the case, so the idiom doesn't fit great here. But close enough.
Maybe it worked for Bon Jovi, but I say you can't go home again.
View: https://youtu.be/Tie0tz7jGDIYeah, definitely. Brady’s been fine.
The Bucs interior OL is bad. Their rookie LG Luke Goedeke might be the worst starting OL in the NFL. Robert Hainsey is, at best, a mediocre C and probably a little worse than that. Brady has no trust in them and doesn’t want to get hit so he’s got happy feet and is short arming any longer route.
They can’t run the ball, the play calling is predictable and terrible. During the Carolina game, Jonathan Vilma was calling out every play before the snap.
The hope is that he and Godwin get back to their old ways with more practice time and that Gage Will get more acclimated as the season goes on. There’s also talk of Ryan Jensen coming back within the next 2 months which would be a huge boost.
Right now they are a bad team and they’re only still in the hunt for anything because the NFC South is putrid
I have no special insight into this except that most seem to speculate that the divorce was ultimately over his refusal to walk away. It would seem really weird for him to walk away now, if the speculation is correct. My expectation is that he will retire for real at the end of the season.
Dude is 46 next August. Would it really be that weird for him to walk away at this point and start the $375M Fox Sports gig? He doesn’t look like 2015 Peyton yet but the end could accelerate pretty quickly.I have no special insight into this except that most seem to speculate that the divorce was ultimately over his refusal to walk away. I think it will take Brady multiple bad seasons to retire. He'll try to not end on a bad note until it slaps him in the face he won't be getting better.Dude is 46 next August. I could definitely see him trying another location, like SF. Will he really labor in Tampa for 2-3 more years? I’m skeptical. His Patriots departure was allegedly driven by wanting to get away from Belichick but also because he didn’t see a path to relevance either.I think it will take Brady multiple bad seasons to retire. Will take edibles to put it over the top.Lynch and Shanahan should get drunk and offer Jimmy G straight up for Brady
Pretty similar to second half of 2019, and we now know he was exploring his next move during that time, so maybe that’s a common thread. Looked to me like he was really aiming/floating the ball Thursday, which was strange.I haven’t watched every snap this season, but from what I have seen Brady looks off. Granted the entire team is off, but a bunch of his throws Thursday night were just terrible.
He looks much worse now than he did in 2019 to me. I mean that year we started 8-0 despite his constant grimacing at receivers. 3-5 is a different kettle of fish.
He’s certainly better than what the Pats got at QB, but he doesn’t look good to me.
This is my thought, too. I think NYJ or Miami.I like him as a Jet.
This Wilson? If Tampa can trade him for Wilson, they should absolutely do it
Yeah they weren’t the same after the ravens beat them down on Monday night. Or maybe it was SNF.Kind of crazy but think about that time in history for a moment. Pats were 8-0, having outscored their opponents 250-61 - an average score of 31.3 to 7.6. Defending Super Bowl champs. Looking every bit like the best team in the league again.
Since that time, including playoffs, the Pats have gone 24-26.
