I’m just saying a lot of guys contributed to this loss. Coyle wasn’t alone.

Carlo scores one goal on an odd man in a tie game then decides to jump in the play twice leading to odd mans and the third goal.

Marchand missed an empty net in the first. Then takes a dumb penalty at the end.

Pastrnak can’t stay on his feet after Vasilevsky got across to make that great save.

Vasilevsky makes the great game changing save on one end. Rask doesn’t.

Krejci and DeBrusk were pretty invisible tonight.

I could name about five other things. Bottom line is Tampa is a historically great team and you can’t do any of those things and expect to beat them. It’s not all on Coyle.

All I ask is that the series between these two this year isn’t decided by the officiating. The teams are too fucking good not to treat every matchup like 2011 Game 7.

Good news is that as awesome as Tampa is, the Bruins blew that through their own errors.

And for all the shit Coyle is getting on the Hedman goal, someone check wtf Wags was doing on that play...puck watching as 91 skates right by him. That was a shit play top to bottom, several guys blew that.

Having 5d, 2 of which are AHL defensemen, caught up to them in the 3rd. Combine that with shit effort from some forwards, a horrendous call on McAvoy, and a very talented team in Tampa and I’m not surprised. Or discouraged.

Full strength the B’s can play with them. Will hopefully be a great series.

That Kucherov goal was a goddamn snipe too. My word what a goal.

The other bad play by Coyle on that play was going so low on offensive rush. Carlo was ahead of him and in the middle of the ice - no need for Coyle to be the 4th man below the dots there. Dumb play combined with lazy effort to make up for it after led to the goal.

Also Carlo absolutely can’t miss high there. That’s literally the only thing he can’t do and he did it.

Hat tip to Tampa; they got housed in the 2nd and came right back in the 3rd to give as good as they got. Keeping in front of them on transition is hard. Study the tape and learn the lessons for the playoffs.

Eh I’m not gonna blame him. He wasn’t in “close my eyes and shoot it” mode there, same as in the 2nd period when it worked.

Honestly he was jumping up too much tonight. Happened on the PK in the 3rd tonight too and almost cost them. I like the aggressiveness, but not against Tampa in the 3rd when there’s only 5 D.

Lightning fans are great overall. Actually giving and taking shit all game, unlike the mausoleum that was Sunrise.

Kampfer on the ice in the last 5 killed them. Onwards

Normally I love defenseman jumping up but not with a 2 goal lead against that team. Their just too good if it goes the other way.

If they had Miller tonight instead of Kampfer they win. That’s the only positive I’m taking from this one.

Like seriously. Coming down on a 2 on 1 on your off wing and going far side/blocker side off the joint at full power is just a cocky “fuck you I have over 120 points this year” goal.

That was like one of those goals that a B league guy subbing in for a low C level men’s league scores before his buddy on the team tells him to tone it down a little. Just ridiculous.

Cassidy throwing Tuukka under the bus a bit here?

Yeah, I don’t know what that’s all about.

2 Stamkos snipes, Kucherov snipe, Hedman tap in after Rask made a breakaway save on Stamkos and 2 skaters dogged it on the back check. The GWG was not a softy either and they played the last part of the 3rd under siege in their own end. Really weird spot for Butch to call out Rask.

It's possible that the Bruins didn't make any more mistakes than usual. But TB cashes them in. Stamkos and Kucherov (27 minutes!) are lethal.

Even when they were ahead, I never really got the sense the Bruins were outplaying TB. I'll have more hope when they aren't missing 4 of their top 7 defensemen, but beating TB in a 7-game series will be a tall order.

I think the Bruins did make more mistakes than usual, but you're right- Tampa is so deadly they finish them.

I thought the B's outplayed them overall in the 2nd, but Tampa was the better team overall for sure. If they have everyone healthy and ready for the playoffs, they most certainly can beat Tampa, although it will be a tall order indeed.

The two skaters that ... didn't skate ... really made that goal inevitable. I know Stamkos technically missed but Tuukka had him squared up perfectly. Had either Bruin back checkers (I didn't catch who they were) made any attempt to defend, there would not have been a goal. You just can't make mistakes like that against one of the NHL's best teams in years.

Because at some point against a great team you need a save that nobody’s supposed to make to win. Their guy made one on Pastrnak, our guy didn’t up the other end, and then the game was tied.

I know I get accused of bashing Rask, I’m really not. He’s obviously a great goalie. His numbers show that. He wins a ton of games. He stops 99% of the shots that he’s supposed to. But it always seems like, in these big games, especially late, the other guy comes up with one or two more of those “how the hell did he get to that?” saves, where with Rask it’s always “yeah he gave up 4 or 5, but they were all defensive break downs, or it was a snipe from Kucherov or Kane or it was Stamkos or Hossa on a breakaway, what’s he supposed to do?”. To win a cup you need a couple saves late in games that you’re not supposed to make and maybe the coach agrees that if this team is going to make a run, they need more of the former out of Rask than the latter.

I think that's right. I'm sure Butch had a reason for saying publicly what everyone in that room knows, but it's true. If they are going to beat any of Toronto/Tampa/Metro/West, they'll need Tuukka to steal a few goals at the right time.

I remember Tuukka making a glove side to his left (shooter's right) that I thought was pretty remarkable...lots of traffic, and that thing was going straight in

I thought Tuukka was terrific last night. Of course you want them to make every save, but faulting him for giving up a goal on a 2-0 breakaway is asinine.

That was a nice stop...doesn't matter he never saw it, he was in the right spot. I thought of that too, but we're asking him to make one more. Fair or not.

Kind of late to post in a game thread, but I came away from that game feeling optimistic for the Bs. Sure TB are lethal, and odds-on favorites to make the Finals this year. And it's never good to give up a late lead. However, Boston has soundly beaten TB at home, then put themselves in strong position to win on the road. They slipped up, but were gambling unnecessarily and unsuccessfully on several occasions in the 3rd. This led each time to odd man rushes the other way. They can't beat TB playing that way, but they are showing me they can otherwise.
