We'll see what happens. I do like the player but the contract is scary. Maybe if they got Arizona to retain and get him down to ~$6.5 I'd feel a bit better about it. Then there's the acquisition cost...
6 years is a long time to retain almost $2 million. If they were going to do that that kind of defeats the point of moving him IMO.

Isn't he a pretty close comparison to Krug in his game though? I agree if he gets down to Krug's asking price then we may have something, but is he better at 5-on-5 than Krug?
I think he's more well rounded and can play in all situations. Better defensively, not as good offensively.

It's going to come down to the acquisition cost and if they can knock anything off the cap hit.

Leafs retained for 7 years on Kessel. It's been done before.

Arizona's motivation seems to be more driven by saving actual cash than the cap savings.

Fair enough totally forgot about Kessel. Bruins would obviously have to put together a much better package to get Arizona to retain a portion of his cap hit like that, which I'm not sure they'd be able to do. Seems like the moveable assets are Debrusk and fringe NHLer's along with picks.

If Arz doesn't want to retain salary, giving back a player in return such as John Moore and his $2.75m cap hit would be the next best option. Moore is only a 6-7 D-man on this team, and can be replaced with Vaak, Lauzon, or a $1m free agent. It would equate to much the same, at least for the next 3 seasons.

I do think OEL is a bit overrated, and overpaid. He was highly touted coming into the league, but is still a solid player and the team captain. The B's may need that leadership as Chara and Bergy ride into the sunset.

If we're talking about sending a salary dump back or retaining salary for Arz doesn't that open up the market for many more teams? The market seems so limited because there's so few teams willing/able to take on the cap hit for that many years.

John Moore seems like a perfect fit from a "get rid of a contract" POV but Nick Ritchie could also find his way in that category

I should add for what it's worth, which probably isn't much, Coyotes fans love OEL and would be devastated to see him go. A large part of that is likely more sentimental than actual hockey reasons, though

Moore could be useful on the roster because of the expansion draft.

Eh, depends on the acquisition cost and how much Arizona retains. If they take back Moore in the deal and retain $1,75 million to get OEL down to $6.5 cap hit, the Bruins might end up OK here. I'll reserve judgement until a deal actually happens.

Without getting too far ahead of ourselves, who would he pair up with?

If this would be the parameters of the deal, it would make sense. I think they would pair him with Carlo.

Unless Carlo is part of the deal.

I would be curious on the price player wise. DeBrusk or Carlo seem like they might be part of it given some of the smoke around their names.

I am very curious as to what their plan is here if they do trade for OEL and include a player like DeBrusk. How do they resolve another hole in their top six?

I like OEL a lot. Just not sure how it all fits.

Yeah, this certainly wouldn't be a no-brainer.

I still think if the Bruins could pull off one "big" move, I'd prefer spending money to bring in Taylor Hall and then using DeBrusk to address the defense. Just hypothesizing here, and I haven't looked too much into the player, but Noah Hanifin is on TSN's list. The Bruins lusted after him at the 2015 draft, wonder if they'd try again and could build something around DeBrusk for Hanifin. Hanifin comes in at a tick under $5 million AAV for 4 more years. He's only 23. Played 21 minutes a game for Calgary this past season, but I haven't really take a look at how he fared.

Listened to Friedman's podcast today where he went around the league. Some of the Bruins stuff:

- Says they are deciding which way to go. Either push forward with this group or maybe take a step back.
- DeBrusk's name is out there.
- He thinks they might've backed off on OEL. He talks about this more when talking about Arizona. He thinks Boston backed off a little and Vancouver seems to be more motivated to do a deal but their cap situation is a lot tougher to deal with. Thinks the Coyotes are being pressured by OEL to do something soon, and Arizona would also like to get picks in the draft coming up on Tuesday. Boston and Vancouver both don't have their 1st's which is another hurdle so to speak. Marek says at the end that Boston was preparing a "whopper" of a deal for OEL if he hit the open market last year.

Sounds like posturing on the side of Boston if you ask me. Now that it's public about OEL's preferences they would be in a position to lowball Arizona knowing what Vancouver's cap position is. If AZ is motivated to do a deal and OEL will only go to BOS or VAN then they are in a shitty position.

I don't think getting Rask's list is all that newsworthy. He's been mentioned in rumors, so I gut it, but I'm fairly certain that they do it every year. They do their due diligence and get lists from the partial NTC players in advance of the draft/free agency so they can move quick if something comes along. They probably have Krejci and Coyle's lists too.

Anyways, I have a hard time squaring trading Rask and improving the team. Vladar is not ready to be a full time player, even as a backup. Halak cannot handle a 55 game #1 goalie load. They'd have to spend some money to bring in a 1A/1B. Is going from Rask to Holtby, Lundqvist or whatever goalie they bring in worth the savings?

Dom said on HFBoards that a player doesn’t have to submit a list every year. But a player if asked has to submit a list within 48 hours of the team’s request. If the list isn’t provided in that time, the NTC is null and void.

Yeah, I think they do it every year prior to the draft and free agency. They get updated lists from every player with an NTC.

I guess my point is that I don't think asking Rask for his list is out of the ordinary or means a deal will happen. Updating lists is part of their SOP. Like I said, they probably also have one from Coyle and Krejci, two other players who have partial NTC's. But that's not "news" because they aren't in trade rumors.

Edit Also, full disclosure, I've long thought this Dom guy was a hack. Has he every been right about anything? I'm sure he's got connections in the scouting community but I don't think he's reliable as the HF people think he is. He likes to stir stuff up over there and stroke his ego acting like he's a McKenzie.

If I were in management and I gave out a NMC I would give out the NMC with the understanding that every single year I would ask the player for a list as a formality. That way they don't find it out of the ordinary when asked and so you're ready to go if blown away with an offer. But, I could see as a player, this would be disheartening.

Sweeney talking now. Highlights:

- No progress with Krug.
- Says Rask remains a big part of the team and that he's comfortable with the goaltending situation.
- They've had conversations with Chara. Doesn't really offer much else on him, so not really sure what's happening.
- They told Nordstrom they won't be aggressive in bringing him back.
- Brett Ritchie and Gaunce will be non-QO'd

Friedman/Johnson update on Sportsnet:

https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/canucks-bruins-key-players-oliver-ekman-larsson-market/
On OEL, sounds like the Coyotes tried to get him to expand his list of acceptable destinations but he's not budging. He feels he negotiated his contract in good faith to stay in Arizona so he's flexing his NMC. It's Boston or Vancouver. They theorize that a potential deal is probably a 2021 1st, (Boston and Vancouver do not have 1sts this year), a prospect, and another pick. They say the Coyotes like Boston's prospects more than Vancouver's, but Vancouver still seems to be more motivated to make a deal.

There is also a section on Taylor Hall. No teams are mentioned, but they say Hall has an open mind ahead of free agency which could include taking a short term deal. He's hungry to play for a contender and will listen to anyone who comes to the table.

Dupont is late to the party. DeBrusk's name has been all over the rumor mill for weeks. Friedman is probably the most credible, he is Sportnet's version of Bob McKenzie. On his podcast last week he said "DeBrusk's name is out there a lot"

Alright, baby. Moore and Anton Blidh it is!

Edit: With Coyotes retaining 50% of course
