cshea, what do you think the chances are he sticks in THE NHL next season?
Not great, but never say never. He plays a position where the B's depth chart is a tad thin (RW), and he's got an NHL frame (6'2", 195). For those reasons, I could see him maybe getting the 9 game look, but I don't think he'll stick for a full season. The speed, shot and goal scoring are there but I'm sure he's got other areas to work on, particularly away from the puck. He also can't play in Providence which makes it tougher to keep him. There's no reason to rush him up.

Thanks. Haven't seen him except in highlights, so I have no idea if he has the level of skills Pastrnak or Marchand had at 18. No, no reason at all to rush him.

Kirk seems pretty convinced that Senyshyn spends one more year in Junior. This is only his second season and while his speed and goal scoring is already among the best in the league, he still needs work on his game away from the puck.

Awesome. I like Tanev a lot. I am concerned about the contracts limit though. They are at 47 and need to sign Gryz, O Gara and Kuraly.

It doesn't work that way. You can't just cut someone to lose a contract. Only way to get rid of a contract right now is a trade or a mutual buy out. Have to wait until they expire on 7/1.

The CHL regular seasons are over, and Kirk has a nice year-in-review for the Bruins prospects in the various CHL leagues on his blog.

http://scoutingpost.com/2016/03/21/bs-chl-prospects-final-regular-season-stats/

5 of the 6 kids made the playoffs. Carlo's team did not, and he will likely head to Providence soon on an ATO. Carlo, along with Jake DeBrusk, is eligible for Providence next season. So their pro careers should get underway soon.

As for Kurlay/NCAA kids...

Aaron Portzline (CBJ beat writer) had a series of tweets earlier this week about Kuraly. Apparently Kuraly is meeting with the Bruins this week, and is likely to sign. He also broke his foot the last week of the season and is in a boot.

The Frozen Four starts tomorrow. The B's have 9 players playing. BU and Denver play each other Saturday so either Heinen or Grzelyck will be free to sign on Sunday.

Very excited to see him live. I hope his game translates because he looked very very sound defensively in the World Juniors.

Providence's season ended on Friday, so Tanev is now a UFA.

Elsewhere, BU was routed by Denver 7-2 yesterday so Grzelcyk is free to sign. Heinen had 3 assists in the game. Yale also lost so O'Gara can sign now as well.

Heinen had 3 points in a rout of Ferris St yesterday as DU advances to the Frozen Four. Heinen had 1-5=6 in the 2 tournament games. Not too shabby.

Kirk tweeted today that O'Gara is expected to sign soon.

Also, Maxim Chudinov's KHL team was eliminated today. There has been some chatter of him coming to NA, so perhaps Soderberg II here. According to Kirk's blog (citing Dom Tiano, posted on 3/11, so things may have changed) the ball is in the Bruins court on if they want him. 8-10=18 in 56 games this season, with a team leading 87 PIM's. Kirk described him as basically a defensive Rinaldo with puck moving skill. He can move the puck but he's got a real nasty side to his game. Kirk's not a huge fan of Chudinov's and doesn't think they should bother.

I know Kirk tweeted something about him in the last couple weeks, but don't forget Matt Benning with NU. Husky fans are a little nervous he might jump (just finished his junior year) but between the contract limits and his (IMO) inconsistent play I think he'll stay NCAA for another year.

He finished the year 6-13-19 and has an outside shot at the NU captaincy next year.

Kirk does like Benning. Seems like a solid player. Kirk expects him back at NU though, so Husky fans should be safe.

O'Gara and Carlo serve in similar roles. I will be very interested to see who plays over who, as O'Gara is a much more polished defensive player. Gryzlyck's place in all this is also curious. Nice for Providence to have a glut of strong young defenseman to choose from both this year and next. With so many solid NCAA players ending their college careers and (likely) signing with the Bruins, I don't think Benning would have a place on the Baby B's next year.

That one has looked like a foregone conclusion for a while but it will be nice to see the big guy in Providence. Good size, decent wheels.

Providence D next year likely includes Carlo-O'Gara-Grzelcyk-Arnesson with Morrow and C. Miller with the NHL club, and with Zboril/Lauzon/Benning coming in the year after. That's a lot of Dmen in the pipeline, will be interesting to see how everyone gets the minutes they need.

IIRC Kirk has been talking up O'Gara since his first time in development camp, not to mention Zane since long before he was a McIntyre. Guy knows his stuff.

Good to see the big man from Yale signed, as expected. I'm a little surprised Kuraly signed this early, but his physical game makes him attractive to the Bruins, especially with the recent success of Acciari.

The man can move, and he's a physical solid presence. He's been an absolute rock for the Bulldogs, and Kirk has long had a hockey crush on him.

Griffith and Czarnik up on an emergency basis. Guessing that means no Spooner/Connolly in St. Louis - and hopefully means no more Eriksson as 3C.

Gotta believe Khokhlachev is gone in the summer. He's been putting up the #s but is passed over for another opportunity for which he'd be a fit.

Acciari stuck in the 4th line C role, Khoklachev could not. He's putting up good numbers in Providence, but has nothing to show in all 9 NHL games other than a -4 and 2 penalty minutes.

Acciari is a 4th liner. Khoklachev needs to play more than 5 minutes a night preferably with other people who have at least a little bit of offensive ability. I mean Marchand didn't do anything his first year when he was on 4th line duty, right?

Or I could have said Acciari has nothing to show in all 14 NHL games other than a -3 and 6 penalty minutes. But he's "gritty" and "tough to play against" I suppose so, you know, hurrah for losing another game 2-1!

But we've had this discussion a million times already so I guess I'll stop.

Grzelcyk has been ridiculously good at the NCAA level. Excited to see what he can do at the next level (and to actually root for him now)

Koko is a ghost when he plays. At least Acciari runs around hitting people and getting his nose dirty. Koko floats around and waits for something to happen. He doesn't force anything, is not fast, is not quick, and is not strong. He's a AAAA player. I am fine with him going to the KHL. I just haven't seen anything out of him that shows me he's ready for the NHL.

-4 now after just watching a puck by the goal post. But hey, he hit someone earlier.
And yeah, Koko doesn't force anything. He learned that the first time he tied to make a play to his 4 liner line mates, they fumbled it, a goal was scored, and Claude benched him.

I've seen him a lot in Providence and this is as good of assessment as I've seen. He's not only behind Acciari and Griffith, but also Czarnik in terms of impacting the game.

I'm Team Koko but if Clode isn't playing him, I'm inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt. Clode knows offensive talent, surprisingly enough. Pretty sure the only guy that left Boston for "nothing" was Sobotka, who was a third liner at best (Seguin/Kessel were different animals).

Analytics loved Balls, which is why I don't totally love analytics in spite of how many charts Ryan Lambert posts in his articles.

Sobotka was traded for Warsofsky and asked out and was going to the KHL if they didn't trade him.

Mentioned this in another thread, but both Czarnik and Vatrano were named to the AHL All-Rookie team.

I can confirm that Benning will be signing

EDIT: so actually there's rumors flying he's going to be a free agent. Either way he's not coming back to NU.

He'd need to go back for another year to test free agency
It's been 4 years since he's been drafted. Supposedly if he withdraws from school in the next couple weeks he'll become a free agent by June. I'm trying to find the rule but I've heard this from multiple people. Hopefully he signs and renders it moot.

Ah - right you are, that's my mistake. I missed that he played a year in the USHL for Dubuque, so it is four years since he's been drafted.

Ignore me :fonz:
