Addressing the prominent need.I love this move. They went from having no 3rd line to a very strong 3rd line
I was just about to say, wonder how he and Brad will get along. The first practice should be interesting. Just let him and Brad duke it out and get it over with.
I like your option. That 3rd line is dramatically improved and a deep and solid top 9. Then you can always load up at the end of games if you need goals.Wonder if Coyle moves up to 2RW and Johansson centers the 3rd line? Or they leave it as is and go:
Marchand - Bergeron - Heinen
DeBrusk - Krejci - Pastrnak
Johansson - Coyle - Backes/Cehlarik
Nordstrom - Kuraly - Wagner
No. I like Simmonds but he would be further exposed by the speed of Tampa and Toronto. Johansson is a very good defensive forward as well as having some good skill.Am I weird for probably wanting Johansson over Simmonds?
You'd be better off bringing Recchi back.I like your option. That 3rd line is dramatically improved and a deep and solid top 9. Then you can always load up at the end of games if you need goals.
If only Backes could get his form back, they'd be really formidable.
I really wasn’t expecting them to spend to the cap this year with the garden remodel going on. It’s the price of being in one of the only states that (rightfully IMO) doesn’t expend public funds to subsidize new stadiums for teams owned by billionaires. The B's have $10m in cap space, no reason to give up bargaining position in this trade for salary retention other than Jacobs being a cheap fuck (shocker I know)
Yeah I do not understand the salary retention part of the deal. Not sure I buy it being because Jacobs didn’t want to spend to the cap.The B's have $10m in cap space, no reason to give up bargaining position in this trade for salary retention other than Jacobs being a cheap fuck (shocker I know)
That’s hilarious.
Good call, I decided to take a look as I thought they had enough cap space / not enough players hitting their performance total figures to have that be a concern. The retention is to give them a cushion for potential bonuses from ELC players.
I would have happily paid that contract. The issue is the Bruins just don't have Brannstrom. Not even close. I wanted Stone badly but it doesn't look like they could have matched without giving up a roster player since they don't have anyone with that kind of value. They turned their 3rd line from a liability to a strength this week, so all in all a positive deadline. Stone would’ve moved the needle but we didn’t have a prospect that would’ve made Ottawa deal him in the division other than McAvoy, which would’ve created a huge hole on our team. I definitely didn’t want to give him a 9.5 AAV contract for 8 years.
Yep, this is exactly what I would do, huge upgrade on the black hole of a 3rd line with Coyle & Johansson. Heinen is much better playing with Bergy & Marchand.Wonder if Coyle moves up to 2RW and Johansson centers the 3rd line? Or they leave it as is and go:
Marchand - Bergeron - Heinen
DeBrusk - Krejci - Pastrnak
Johansson - Coyle - Backes/Cehlarik
Nordstrom - Kuraly - Wagner
I would guess they view Coyle as a long term 2/3 center for them. Johansson seems more of a pure rental, but you never know. He’s a good defensive forward with skill, and we know the Bruins love two way guys. This deadline really isn't dissimilar to picking up Kelly and Peverley. They are different style players than Coyle and Johansson, but getting 3rd line players than can provide top 6 depth and multi-position flexibility to make them a deeper team seems to be pretty close.
