Zuber was an Amana colonist (strictly religious conservative), so I think he was a conscientious observer. The Amana weren't even allowed to play sports until Zuber was in his early teens. He later tried out for minor league manager Casey Stengel in Toledo. Zuber couldn't find the plate, but Stengel was impressed enough to send legendary scout Cy Slapnicka to Iowa to get another look. Slapnicka found Zuber in a field and asked him to pick up an onion and hit a nearby barn. Zuber threw the onion over the barn and Slapnicka signed him… which I guess means he couldn't hit the broadside of a barn, but he had a hell of an arm.
Our 1B tryout process was pretty binary -- you were either named Davey Crockett or you weren't. But Cater is definitely on the team. Probably a DH, maybe his 1968 season when he finished 2nd to Yaz in batting average (at .290)?

Had his career year in 1966 with the Astros with a 120 OPS+ in 333 PA. Also had 11 outfield assists that year. After playing 10 games for the Braves as a 27-year-old in 1967 he was out of baseball.

Played with seven teams in his 13-year career; the most with one team were his five years with the Devil Rays/Rays from 2006-10 which included his lone All-Star season (2008 -- that year he was great against the White Sox in the ALDS (1.038 OPS) and good against the Phillies in the WS (.801 OPS) but lousy against the Red Sox in the ALCS (.442), which is nice). I scanned the BR page to try to find any other PM players with double-digit WAR accumulation; thus I'll add Paul Minner and Pat Malone to our rotation. (I had only gotten to them, Pedro, Molitor, Mullin, Masi, and Pepper before reading the rest of the thread and finding your post.)
Being one of the largest initial groups in MLB, we're fortunate enough to have 4 MVPs and 6 HOFers, with 1 HOFer on the bench. It's a very right-handed pitching staff, however.
