We have to be also sending a draft pick (or this is a home run).

Morris is a powerful big that can shoot, and has 2yrs left on a very reasonable deal ($5MM/yr)

Woah! What a return that is.

Morris had a bad shooting year last year but shot better than 35% from 3 every other year except his rookie year.

Knicks plan to waive Plumlee...

(Edit for clarity)
This is the wrong thread, but they will probably re-sign him. They had to waive him to have space for the Tim Hardaway offer sheet. Once that is done they can just bring him back at the cost of the extra $100K.

How can they be getting a guy like Morris back when it was so clear that Ainge had no leverage and was going to have to just give someone away?? ;)

In DA we trust.

Once (1) the Bradley-Morris trade is finalized, (2) Green, Jerebko and Young are renounced and (3) Yabusele agrees to be stashed overseas for another year, BOS will have $97.15mm in contracts for 17-18 and will be $1.94mm under the cap.

BOS can then sign Theis and Green to minimum contracts and will still have the $4.32mm room exception. Not sure what this means for Nader. Ojaleye is likely getting one of the two-way spots, with one of Bird/Allen getting the other.

I still think there's a good chance Crowder is traded, which may change things slightly.

If anyone suggested this trade over the last few days, you would have been laughed off this board. This is a Fukn A trade
At this point I think I'd happily do Crowder for Hayward S&T and swap rights in any of the next three years with top 10 protection or something.

I have to admit I'm surprised Danny didn't have something better lined up. I know that it's easy to be a homer but I really feel like the rest of the league is looking at the Celtics and saying "I'm only dealing with you if I can claim I won the trade."
What do you think of this deal? Complete home run, right?

I believe you were in the 'deal AB camp', over dealing Smart or Crowder.

Should be pretty close to enough money being saved to bring Yabu on board

Amfox, you are the best at this type of stuff so I am going to pose this question to you.

Looking at the roster now the obvious missing piece is a 4/5 who can rebound (preferably a veteran but that's not a make or break preference). Are there any obvious options for this that would fit in the Celtics cap space and make sense as the return for a Jae trade? The one that makes sense to me is Juan Hernangomez but again I think both Ainge and Stevens (especially Stevens) would prefer a veteran

I think this is the approach we take. Yabu didn't seem interested at all in playing overseas again.

Yeah, I think there's a better chance DJax and Mickey are gone than Yabu goes back to be stashed again. And, frankly, I'd rather have Yabu in Maine dealing with NBA types anyway.

I like this trade a lot. I do think that dealing Bradley puts a bit more risk into the 2017/18 team, because of also the Thomas hip injury. But it's worth it to not have to give up more longer term pieces. Morris is a real solid player at his salary and a good get for having to let Amir go (which I also think was the right decision). I do think people here will be frustrated though because he's actually a worse rebounder than Johnson, and was before playing next to Drummond.

The best insurance against IT's hip is keeping Smart and Rozier. Playing the point on offense was not one of Bradley's skills.

Underrated aspect of this move. Not that Yabusele is ready to be an impact player, but from an agent/player/Ainge relationship standpoint, this adds (or at least doesn't detract) value in the coming years while the Celtics will be making extra mid-to-late 1st rd picks (LAC, MEM, + their own) which could easily be earmarked for more stash players.

If Utah really likes Crowder they can always work out a separate deal from him. The sign and trade only made sense if Boston wasn't finding any decent trade partners, but since they did the talks probably fizzled.

I was dubious about those rumors because A) The Jazz had very little of value that would be fair for Crowder and B) The Celtics also could have traded Smart or Bradley to any other team with a little cap room.

I'm sure Boston would love Mitchell, so the Jazz can always talk to Boston in a few months when Mitchell's eligible to be moved. I suspect that Denver is also going to make some enquiries given that their SF makes Avery Bradley look like an iron man.

Would do Mitchell for Crowder in a second.

Yeah, not sure why everyone thinks Utah will move Mitchell. They traded up to get him, he's played great in summer league, and their timetable just got moved back. He's probably fairly close to untouchable, at least for anything the Celtics would be willing to send.

Any chance Sac would want Crowder for WCS or Labissierre? They'd both be good roster fits for us, Labissierre's shooting numbers in particular look pretty good. Sacto seems interested in adding vets in an effort to be respectable.

I'd be really surprised if Ojeleye got a two-way deal. I'd say it's more likely they use part of their room exception to lock him up longer than two years, than sign him to a two-way deal.
