The NECBL hasn't followed suit yet, but it's only a matter of time, right?
I don’t think there will be much organized baseball of any kind this summer. Maybe MLB, because they can generate revenue without fans in attendance, and maybe Legion ball in rural areas that have been less affected by the pandemic. But I think most leagues simply won’t play.

That is a bummer -- our family has been going to see Cape Cod League games every year since we moved back to Boston in late 2012.

I also kind of worry about the impact canceling a season has on the Cape league in general. It seems like they are perennially under threat of being wiped out -- and while I like the job Manfred is doing more than most people w MLB, he is clearly trying to reduce their footprint to a more sustainable 21st century size.

The cancellation of the Cape league, as well as the potential cancellation of the NECBL and similar leagues is sad news on several levels. Not only for fans and host cities, but for a whole host of players who have already been robbed of not only their college season, but also the opportunity to be scouted and for some the last hope they have of being discovered and getting the chance to extend their playing careers.

this was going to be the year I tried to see a few games. Will try in 2021 hopefully.

Yep. Arnie Allen Diamond at Gov Fuller Firld. Rolls right off the tongue.

When games are on I will be there. First base line. Top row. Right most seat.

I don't live in Falmouth anymore, but I participated in a few of the summer clinics that the Commodore players used to put on for kids back in the early 90's. Arnie Allen was the equipment manager, and he would always be around. He was a fixture at Falmouth games. I recall it being a badge of honor to track down a foul ball, as there wasn't a lot of extra equipment to go around, because Allen would track down the kid who snagged it and make a big deal out of offering them a quarter as compensation.

Thanks for mentioning the field's full name - I probably hadn't thought of Arnie or those quarters in 20+ years.

Orleans Cardinals (never "Firebirds") fan here, and this reminded me of a similar. My son was maybe 9 (2005?) and he desperately wanted a foul ball, but realized he'd have to give it back, so he schemed to bring some other ball he had, and when the ball boy came looking for the foul, he'd pass off the old one and keep the official Cape League ball.

That day he actually somehow got a foul ball, but the scheme didn't work, unsurprisingly. I hadn't thought of that in years, but it was one of many fond memories of soft summer evenings at Eldridge Park.

It was a similar deal in Chatham (go A’s!). I think they gave out coupons for a kids ice cream in exchange for foul balls. Back in the late 80s / early 90s when I was running around there as a kid.

They've been letting you keep fouls and homers at Eldredge for years now (well obviously not this year). I used to live a five-minute walk from Eldredge and would see most all the home games. I had a nice collection of Cape League foul balls before I left the Cape a few years ago.

There needs to be a Soshbash for a Cape game in 2021. Ticket "pricing" is nice too.
