I'd imagine Dean or Sacco take over the head spot while Cassidy is out.

Figures this happens once they actually start playing a normal schedule. The entire roster and coaching staff are probably close contacts, I assume this won't be the last we hear of the virus this week. I just hope they isolate it as best they can and it doesn't spread too far. The league has wanted no part of postponing games this year so we're unlikely to get any sort of relief if there's an outbreak. The Sens and Islanders had to play a few games with decimated rosters before the league finally gave in and started PPDing games.

Especially since it's an opportunity to screw the Bs, which appears to be a league priority.

Sweeney, Bergeron and Marchand were all wearing masks for their media availibility today. It seems the team is taking this seriously. Curious to see if the staff is masked up on the bench tonight (they should).

Now you want to tell me hockey players have to wear things on their head to protect them from harm.

MacTavish weeps.

this all begs the questions:

1) Are some or most “fully vaccinated” athletes only vaxxed with the single J&J?
2) how many of those have received booster shots?
3) how many of those with the double vaxx Moderna & Pfizer have received boosters?

For the Bruins specifically, to the best of our knowledge they got Moderna or Pfizer,. They mostly did the vaccinations in bulk, there was some debate over when they would get the second dose because it lined up with playoff time. They ended up getting the bulk of the players the 2nd dose in between the Caps and Isles series. There could be some J&Jers in there who got it either with other organizations or at a different time from the rest of the team.

Not a clue on boosters. Would imagine not many players have received it but that's me talking out of my ass.

I'm pretty certain that the agreement between the PA and NHL was the standard 1 (if JnJ) or 2 dose (Pfizer/Moderna) vaccine to be considered fully vaccinated. Any boosters would definitely be voluntary. And given that the CDC only just recently changed their guidance to allow for boosters for all adults, it's probable that only few if any NHL players and coaches have received a booster.

Breakthroughs in this age cohort are almost always mild or asymptomatic.

Agreed but I would imagine if boosters were implemented league wide at 6 months after final dose, the current & future covid problems the league is having will be mitigated. Much moreso in my humble opinion than increased mask wearing.

Different league, but the NBA has been doing antibody testing on players that experience breakthrough infections:

NBA's been aware of 34 instances of vaccinated player or staff member diagnosed with breakthrough case of Covid, per study. 3 infections w/ individuals with "not detected" antibody levels; 31 had detectable antibody levels much lower than average of remaining testing population.
Evidence of waning immunity in some players, which, in turn, is making them more likely to experience a breakthrough.

FWIW, Mazz says "something tells me covid is spreading at the garden."

He's being coy as usual, and he could be talking about the Celtics, but my guess is the Bruins are in for an outbreak given it already got in with Cassidy.

Given Providence is on lockdown, if/when the Bruins roster gets hit they can't play until the outbreak runs its course.

Edit: Well, they are practicing today so maybe a false alarm. Bergeron is absent but that could be related to the blocked shot that stung him in-game last night.
