Perhaps this has been already posted and it goes beyond the Pats...but for a Boston sports fan, this is pretty damned good in the Celebrating What Is category.

Here is the SB gamethread, started from when the game did, from probably the best 49er message board. I was surprised how they're almost all pulling for the Falcons (nobody cares where Brady is from). Some radio guys out here, OTOH, do like Brady.

http://www.49erswebzone.com/forum/nfl/187838-super-bowl-new-england-patriots-atlanta-falcons/page10/

Some posts:

I've never seen someone as slow as Ryan on his feet.

Brady has that eye of the tiger, its over lol

Falcons are f#ck. Brady lives for this sh!t.

Even if they get a stop can't see Melty Ice producing a TD drive.

Brady did it with no HOF players around him, GOAT. Now please retire. He did it with a bunch of white midgets....

Let me know when enough is enough LOL.

I'm not really surprised - the 49ers had practically hired Shanahan by then, so rooting for him is basically because they want to think that the Super-Bowl winning offense can actually transfer and give their fans new hope.

And then Brady crushed those hopes.

Also, I guess I've kind of had blinders on. People on SOSH say the Pats are generally hated around the country. I haven't seen that, but where I live is not a pro football hotbed (Silicon Valley). People just don't care that much about it, even when the 49ers were great. Guess we are the hated dynasty now though.

I lived in San Mateo for a couple years and found a lot of people there do not like the Pats. Even though San Mateo is Brady's home town.

I think there's a natural dynasty competition. If the Jaguars are going for championship #6 30 years from now under the steady hand of Blaine Gabbert Jr, I don't imagine Patriots fans will be wishing them well. Belichick passed Walsh with #4, Brady passed Montana with #5, and the dynasties are even now.

That's precisely my experience living in the bay area the last 7 years.

That said, when I visited Dallas/Arlington in 2015, I was shocked to find a lot of support for Brady as the GOAT from Cowboys fans. I think it's because Aikman has no claim to that title and they're ready to move on from Joe Cool.

You just named two teams that the Pats haven't really stolen any bonus money away from (I realize I'm ignoring the Raiders, but those fans have their fill of vendettas already). That description doesn't fit...well, the entire AFC.

Exactly. I will say that Niners fans were just about the only fans (outside of NE) who were rooting for the Pats in SB 49 (they HATE Seattle, especially at the time, when the Niners were seen as their rivals).

Haha... not sure why I never put this together before... even back when Brady was just entering the league. They knew he would already be the #1 QB.

Note his combine QB shirt #.

1

(Random luck of no QB having a last name before him in alphabetical order that particular year)

La Mancha.
2001-02 to 2016-17 (less 2008). 15 Seasons with the Belichick-Brady combo at the helm of the Patriots.

14 of those seasons in the playoffs (93.3% of the time)
14 of those seasons with divisional titles (93.3% of the time)
12 of those seasons with 11 or more wins (80.0% of the time)
11 of those seasons with 12 or more wins (73.3% of the time)
11 of those seasons making it to the AFCCG (73.3% of the time)
7 of those seasons making it to the Super Bowl (46.7% of the time)
6 of those seasons with 13 or more wins (40.0% of the time)
5 of those seasons winning the Super Bowl (33.3% of the time)
5 of those seasons with 14 or more wins (33.3% of the time)
0 of those seasons with fewer than 9 wins (0.0% of the time)

Basically, 3 of every 4 years they're playing for the conference championship. Nearly half of their seasons together, they're in the Super Bowl. One out of every three seasons they're winning a Lombardi.

And never, ever having anything other than a winning season. Only missing the playoffs once, and that on a tiebreaker.

It's just unbelievable.
The Steelers, under Tomlin, have gone to 3 of 10 AFC Championship games. That is pretty good. If they go to the next 7 in a row they still won't have matched BB's 11 in 17 years.

Consider this hypothetical team and its playoff successes since 2001:

SB wins: 3
SB appearances: 4
Conf Champ appearances: 5
Playoff wins: 10
Byes: 7
Division titles: 5

Pretty great, right? Indeed, this hypothetical franchise would be one of the best non-Patriots teams of the last 15 years, arguably better (certainly in terms of success at CC/SB level) than the 5-6 most successful teams of the era:

PIT (2 SB wins, 3 SB appearances, 6 CC appearances, 15 playoff wins, 4 byes, 8 division titles)
SEA (1 SB win, 3 SB appearances, 3 CC appearances, 13 playoff wins, 3 byes, 8 division titles)
IND (1 SB win, 2 SB appearances, 4 CC appearances, 12 playoff wins, 3 byes, 8 division titles)
GB (1 SB win, 1 SB appearances, 4 CC appearances, 12 playoff wins, 3 byes, 9 division titles)
NYG (2 SB wins, 2 SB appearances, 2 CC appearances, 8 playoff wins, 1 bye, 3 division titles)
DEN (1 SB win, 2 SB appearances, 2 CC appearances, 7 playoff wins, 4 byes, 6 division titles)

Well, those numbers are the difference between the Patriots's playoff performance and that of the next best team in each category.

SB wins: 5 [PIT/NYG 2]
SB appearances: 7 [PIT/SEA 3]
Conf Champ appearances: 11 [PIT 6]
Playoff wins: 25 [PIT 15]
Byes: 11 [PIT/DEN/CHI 4]
Division titles: 14 [GB 9]

Well, pretty weird, at least. It's not possible over that period to have 3 SB wins, 4 appearances, and only 10 playoff wins.

Belichick on NFLNet now with McGinest telling some great war stories.
I'm trying to picture what a post-coaching studio analyst career would look like for BB.

At the table with 4 other guys: Hot take, Hot take, Hot take, BB breaks down why a team's 4th WR and backup DT will be x-factors, silence.......Hot take.

Bill gets the kickers name wrong and he doesn't know it was 4th and 2? Sad! Time for McDaniels to take over.

Love Edelman so much. What a fun player to have on your team. Pesky, hard-nosed, energetic, nonstop motor and a fiery little jerk. One of my all-time faves. Thx for posting.

Our old friend Bill Polian stating that they had a first round grade on Brady, but still didn't draft him after 6 full rounds

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2017/03/07/bill-polian-claims-colts-had-a-first-round-grade-on-tom-brady/?utm_network=twitter&utm_post=6863328&utm_source=TW @SNFonNBC

Frankly, Polian is either lying or admitting to a moment of gross incompetence. The fact that the Colts had Manning, the first pick in 1998, didn’t preclude them from drafting a quarterback in 2000 at or before the Patriots got Brady at pick No. 199. In 2004, for example, Polian drafted quarterback Jim Sorgi with selection No. 193.

The fish gets bigger with every retelling. Soon there will have been someone in his draft war room who actively restrained him from calling in the drafting of Brady starting in the 3rd round, and there he lay, helpless and bound to his chair like Hannibal Lecter, forced to listen while Belichick cruelly stole Brady away with #199.

If the Pats win it all in 2017, they will be the first team this century to win 3 titles... and they will also be the second team this century to win 3 titles.

Oh yes what a sweet victory that would be seeing the pats fall just short of their six f@cking ring. Left weaping in a pool of their own tears with only their five rings to ease the pain. We all need to get a grip and get a life.
I like this one, from a bit further down:

Have it your way! Congratulations! Your post has sent me over the edge. This will be my last post ever on TGG. You've onvinced me the NFL exists solely for Patriot fan enjoyment. WHy bother watching if they are so prestine and so "stacked"? Well that's easy...so Patriot fans have pin cushions to boost their ego along the way...

No more...

Enjoy your cheat-fest & 10 god damn more rings.

Good riddance..I'm done.

Yay rah rah Patriots.
