Theis lived in the paint last night and as we all know being aggressive and taking the ball to the basket generally results in fouls and FTs.

Not one FT last night.

But he was called for 5 fouls

He was fouled on the dunk late in the game where Marcus threw it over the top. He was fouled on that airball rebound, which they then reviewed and overturned, and somehow turned into a jump ball. And at least one of those fouls should not have been called on him. He gets no love from the officials.

I dont know if its an issue or not. All i know is I always see coaches bitch and moan and usually the next game the refs reward them for it.
This may be the case but I am unfamiliar with the data. Do you have something you can share?

Sorry but reminds me of funny anecdote.

There was a college coach that wandered all over the place, wrong side of half court, to steps onto the court to yell at his guys, etc. etc. Anyway our coach told us if, late when it was not in doubt we could "accidentally" do something. So it came to pass he was a step or two on the court as the play went the other way and a big dude (you may find it hard to believe this particula coach was a small guy) on our team ran him over. He didn't get the extra 12 beer since the guy's wig stayed on.

Anyway if the Celts have this wrapped up, somebody need to "accidentally" wire a pass off Nurse's glasses.

That would require seeing consecutive games for lots of teams. And multiples times to be useful. Not saying you don't. That's just more basketball than I could watch.

Or when he's down in the corner on the bloody court Marcus needs to collide with him, flop, and begin gesticulating wildly.

Yeah, I think creating contact with him when he's as close as he is to Jaylen in that last picture is the move. That almost has to be a technical and an ejection. The challenge is if it is Smart, Walker, Brown, Tatum you have a small risk (especially given quality of officiating in this series) you get hit on it too.

To me, Ainge isn't doing his job if he hasn't been reading the riot act on this to the NBA today. That has to include him asking for a specific instruction to game officials to treat it like a flagrant foul, e.g. a player safety issues that can be reviewed at any time.

The Celtics also should be getting the NBAPA involved----it is a player who will be hurt by the league not enforcing a safety rule here. This is nowhere near the top of their priority list but they do care about this.

I might be crazy but I seem to remember a dead ball situation where Marcus? was positioned near that same corner and Nurse was lining up behind him. Marcus did a subtle stretching routine where he was kicking his legs backwards towards Nurse followed by Nurse walking away towards the bench.

Either way, that's not reviewable and all that would have happened at that point is a T on Tatum or Brad. That's the refs job to see it when it happens.
I think it’s possible that JT didn’t realize it was Nurse he was aiming at. If you watch the video, when the ball is coming, Nurse dodges and scrambles back to a more reasonable spot. It’s possible that, in the moment, Tatum knew he saw someone but didn’t realize it was Nurse.
Of course, that makes it even shadier on Nurses part.

He 100% did this, the old wiping off the bottom of the sneakers routine.

Ugh, just let this be a blowout so every made bucket can be followed by excessive mugging at that jackass.

I think I remember something like that too. Was it an inbound play?

This is where I’m at. At the beginning of the series I was like meh, Toronto, not much to hate about them. But now I can’t fathom watching the Celtics lose to these creeps.

As long as the coach stays between the substitution box and the baseline, he's OK. That (I assume) does not include the actual court, although coaches seem to get away with that.

The rule excerpt that governs here is pretty squeezy:

"Any club personnel not seated on the bench must conduct themselves in a manner that would reflect favorably on the dignity of the game and the officials. Violations by any of the personnel indicated shall require a written report to the League Office for subsequent action."

That last picture is insane. They need to get this guy under control. If he was yelling at Jaylen, it provides even more context to Jaylen basically calling him a child in the postgame.

Thanks for pulling these pictures.
What a piece of trash. If there are basketball gods (and I believe they are) he will get his tomorrow.

But I am surprised about this, NBA says Kemba was fouled....good to know.

The only other incorrect call was apparently a travel by Powell before Kemba fouled him...so you know 2 more points...

So, yeah, that was why Kemba was bad last night. He went the entire game without going to the foul line. You aren't going to shoot a good percentage when the other team is allowed to foul you.

Q4 00:43.8 Turnover: Lost Ball Out of Bounds Nick Nurse Celtics CNC Video
Comment: Coaches may be on or off the bench from the substitution box line (closest to the coach's bench) to the baseline. Coach Nurse's (TOR) presence in the corner is not illegal and he does not directly interfere with the play.

he had one foot briefly beyond the baseline, even on the video.

They can't admit to Nurse involving him self in the game because then they would have to do something drastic about it.

That is probably why they admitted the foul on Kemba, that will draw the attention and in the end doesn't matter.

At this point, I assume there's nothing marcus isn't capable of. A timely, but monumental, passage of gas is what Nurse deserves.

And also, at one point he's basically straddling the corner with one foot beyond the end of the baseline which seems to be outside the rules per the 2min report.

34125

I thought he could only go up to the baseline and not beyond it. Based on his body position in this picture, part of his body is actually over the inbounds area of play.

My intense dislike of Nick Nurse is growing exponentially. If the Celtics lose tomorrow his stupid face is going to haunt me all offseason. My joy when the Celtics win tomorrow is going to be epic. I’m almost at the point that I don’t care if the Celtics win the next round as long as they stomp this jackass.

Apparently the guy even has his own clothing line, like TB12, which is kinda pathetic. Wearing your own "NN" brand as a coach is obnoxious. He also sells zany stuff like a "box and 1" shirt! A coach that mixes up defenses, so wacky!

Proceeds go to charity, so I'll limit my hating to that.

Jaylen Brown gets leg swept by Lowry, comes down hard, no foul, no review.
FVV jumps forward literally 4-5 feet from where he released the ball and lands on Smart, FVV rolls around a while, review, flagrant, 3 points.
Nurse literally stands on the court, and fakes out Tatum to pass it to him. Nothing from the refs
Offensive foul called on Brown or Tatum on one end, no call, and the exact same play happens on the other end the next trip down, foul on the C's.
Kemba gets hacked going to the hoop for the game winner. No call.
Theis gets hacked multiple times after an offensive board, they go to review, call overturned.
Theis gets fouled while dunking, no call.
Tatum gets hacked, his arm goes flailing, they go to review, flagrant on Tatum.
Powell travels late in the game, no call, but he gets a foul call and picks up 2 at the line.
Lowry bearhugs Theis on a 3 pointers, so Theis can't get to the shooter, Lowry then falls down, gets the call and an extra point at the line.
Gasol literally trucks Smart at the final whistle, no call.
Toronto was literally granted a timeout when they didn't have possession with 2.2 seconds left, leading to not one, but TWO opportunities for them to win the game in regulation.
Don't even get me started on the defensive 3 second violations with their zone defense.

These are just the ones I can remember off the top of my head. I could go on and on, but the C's were the better team last night, they've been the better team all series, and the only reason they are playing a game 7 is because the refs stole this game from them. Period.

Find me 2 or even 3 calls that were as sketchy as any of the ones above that went in the Celtics favor and I'll re-think this, but I doubt anyone can.

Tony Brothers: C's are 3-13 in their last 16 playoff games with this guy on the court, and the Raptors are 13-3. That's not a coincidence.

Nurse was snuggled up on Celtics corner shooters the entire second half. If he does it again, the Celtics player needs to turn around, point at him, and tell him to stop trying to affect the game.

The broadcast mentioned (in the first half, iirc) something about the refs talking to/warning the Toronto bench. Would be nice to know what that was all about.
There was discussion about this on sports radio today. Apparently, in addition to Nick Nurse playing the #6 for the Raptors at times, the scuffle at the end of the game was because Jaylen was livid at the "coaching staff" of the Raptors, and one of the reasons was because when he was at the foul line late in the game, they were yelling "hey batter, batter, swing batter" from the bench area. I would imagine Nurse and others were doing this shit throughout the game, leading to Jaylen's comments. In one of the pics in this thread, you can make out Nurse yelling at Jaylen from about a foot away during a play.

Normally, this shit isn't an issue because you have crowd noise drowning out the bench, but when you have no crowd, and all of a sudden, someone starts heckling you, I imagine it has an effect like screaming in someone's back swing on a golf course. Solid consistent noise is way easier to deal with from a concentration standpoint than random outbursts when you aren't expecting them.

I very rarely get too worked up about the NBA officiating, because I know it generally blows. But I'm having a lot of trouble shaking my anger about last night. A few calls, here and there, it is what it is. But last night was a legit travesty, especially with reviews.

If Nurse is on the court again, someone really needs to run into him.
This. Or whip a pass off him if there's a player nearby. It's worth a single turnover to drill him. I don't normally advocate this sort of thing, but his actions cost the Celtics a key possession in the waning moments of that game.

Nurse strikes me as a habitual line stepper, to quote Charlie Murphy, and its working for him. That said, even Tatum acknowledged that it was his mistake. By definition, a player wasn't supposed to be there (if they were, this discussion would be moot) so Tatum blindly chucking a pass to a guy in the corner isn't how things are supposed to go either.

In order of culpability, I would argue Tatum tops the list, followed by the officials who should have been all over Nurse. I can't be mad at Nurse - if he gets away with it, why shouldn't he keep doing it? I am all for any edge that helps my team including exploiting lax enforcement of rules.

So if he gets away with it, he's ok. If he doesn't get away with it, he's wrong. Seems like your opinion of him is based on the results not the actions?
