Someone bump the race thread!

This is what it is. They needed big men and they weren't going to do much better with what's out there.

I love the lineup versatility the Cs have. They can go:

"Small" with IT-Smart-Hayward-Crowder-Horford

"Big" with Smart-Hayward-Crowder-Horford-Baynes

and I haven't even mentioned the positional versatility of Jaylen, Jayson, Rozier, Morris, etc.

Brad has so many toys now. I'm excited.

Hard not to like this signing, Baynes fills a need for a vet big who can give 15-20 competent minutes per game, he didn't require any long term commitment, and none of the better options were realistically signing for the room exception. He did end up costing himself $2+ million opting out of his deal with the Pistons, which has to sting.

He's solid on the analytic front. RPM of +.48 last year (Olynyk was +.50), PER last 3 years of 13.1, 17.8, and 15.9. Subjectively, seems to have a good rep as a hard nosed defender that Stan Van Gundy trusted. They've more or less replaced Amir Johnson.

That's what she said.
He can't be too happy with his agent. Interesting cap related off season any way you look at it. I love the Baynes signing. Only had we gotten Dedmon instead for this cheap would I be happier.

What other moves are left to make? Seems like this could be it barring an out of nowhere trade.

Nothing of consequence.

sign Yabusele and Ojeyele. Then officially sign Hayward. After that, they'll only have minimum salary available to sign anyone.

Smoke Shop is probably your best bet. Also Sweet Cheeks, Blue Ribbon, and Blackstrap.

Nice pick up for the money for sure. Dedmon been great but he will sign for a little more for multiple years I bet.

What was his player option that he turned down worth? Something like $ 6.5m? So he took a small hit, but gets to play for a winning team as a trade off.

Seems like the right signing. Not sure why people would expect him to sign for more, however. He's a thirty year old backup center with three full seasons in the league?

It might be because if he turned down a player option for more, he might have done that because agent said he could get him more.

No love for the Pit Stop in Mattapan? Best (and cheapest) beef ribs in town.
This is probably the first time I have agreed with anything you've posted here. Love Pit Stop. Get the brisket.

A 33% salary cut is not a small hit. His agent drastically misread the market as did I and others......there was talk earlier this year of a multi-year, $10m AAV deal out there for him similar to Olynyk's.

I'm very happy that we're out of the shrubbery and into the trees.
I' m somewhat concerned that Gerschon will have a proper platform toDevelop.

That would be nuts; he's four years older and a level below the player Olynyk is.

I suppose in this scenario, the agent envisioned Olynyk getting more money, too.

That talk had to have been based on the Mozgov/Mahinmi deals.
Yes, nobody in Detroit expected him to opt-in for the $6.5m but things move fast in FA and there are always a subset of FA who get the short end of it each year. I certainly didn't expect us to be able to acquire an experienced 2nd unit rotation big for $4.3m......but as I've preached ad nauseum that is Ainge's M.O. for his second unit guys while allowing non-full time players like Posey, Baby, Perkins and Olynyk to get overpaid elsewhere.
