Because I'm too excited to wait. First game July 3 in UT against PHI. Nothing to watch there.

Roster currently looks like:

Jaylen
Tatum
Zizac (uncertain playing time because his league just finished)
Nader
Jackson
Mickey
Ojeleye
Kadeem Allen
Bird
Scoochie Smith (PG from Dayton)
Landan Lucas (Center from Kansas).

Unsurprisingly, DA mentioned that Cs had tough time attracting top free agent talent to the summer league because of their depth. They will need a few more bodies to fill out their roster though.

Zizic isn't expected to participate in Summer League due to visa issues.

'Mike Zarren: "Ante is currently under contract in Europe. But there currently is no visa issue. We re good."'

I think Danny misspoke--it might be a buyout issue or something related.

Beat me to it! I was going to start a summer league thread. Isn't this Mickey's third summer league? Seems unusual; most players only do two right? He must be getting close to a do-or-die situation, like Hunter/Young last year. Has to prove himself.

Why no Yabusele on roster? Was that an oversight, or is he still having ankle problems?

Meanwhile: I know HRB said he was going to watch some of the games in person. Anyone know if any of these are being televised anywhere?

I believe that Yabusele had surgery to remove bone spurs from the tops of both feet and is out indefinitely. It's a shame as the practice battles between him and Ojeleye would have been fun to follow. Although, I do wonder if his recovery will facilitate keeping him overseas for an additional year.

Ah yes, you're right -- sorry, I read that about the bone spurs a while ago and promptly forgot it. Though I wouldn't wish bone spurs on anyone, keeping him overseas for an additional year would be an excellent outcome, with the current logjammed roster. If they did, I hope they could get him in a higher-quality league -- maybe over in Europe?

So weird. Ainge says one thing then Zarren says the exact opposite?

Yeah, it was confusing. From what I could gather, Danny meant something about Zizic's contract situation with his Turkish club, and he said visa by mistake. Still not sure exactly what's going on.

There's basically no chance any day at Vegas summer league sells out, even on days the Sixers play right? I live in Vegas and want to go to 1 or 2 days the Cs play, but the $30 general admission ticket becomes $48 if you buy it online after 3 different fees so I'd prefer to just wait and get a walk up ticket.

Also full Celtics schedule is here for anyone interested

Thanks for the schedule. I am so watching the hell out of televised games. I miss NBA basketball so badly right now and am stoked to see some of these kids play.

Have you watched passed summer leagues? Watch, enjoy, but don't have your expectations too high, is all I am saying.
Youre right: it's bad basketball, but the fun is projecting irresponsibly. Celtics have a ton of prospects this year, and more that will be potentially playing at the NBA level than usual.

And we won't have to watch James Young suck ass again, so there's that.

Yeah - I'm looking forward to it, too. It's a big step down though from NBA.

Yes, I have watched the past few years. I agree the quality is fairly poor. That said, its still fun to watch and I agree with Fishy that you can get caught up in players looking like world beaters against sub D-League competition.

around the way
Spring training games are sketchy also, between the split squads and two PAs at best for a lot of starters before some guy wearing 88 comes into the game. Still awesome though. Looking forward to get a glimpse of some of the new guys. Thanks for posting the schedule. DVR set through the 7/9 game already.

No, these games will not sell out however the seating is first-come/first-serve without designated seats (only separated by General Admission, General Admission Courtside, and Suites) you will want to arrive in advance so when the previous game ends you can identify those people leaving the arena and move into the more prime seats. The Celtics play in the middle time slot during all 3 of the preliminary games but if they are ever in the opening game during the seeded tournament you can arrive 45 minutes prior to the start and get center court near the front for the entire day. I'm attending the Saturday afternoon session and the Celtics first game with a 5:30pm PST start but then may have to miss the next two until the seeded tournament begins on Wednesday.

The games are in two venues of the same building, The Thomas & Mack Center......the main 18,000 seat Thomas & Mack Arena and the 2500 seat Fox Pavilion which is UNLV's practice court for basketball, volleyball and used for many other purposes. There are either 3 or 4 consecutive games running in each venue every day. This year the Celtics first 3 games are scheduled in Thomas & Mack which imo stinks because I HIGHLY recommend choosing the cozy confines of the Fox Pavilion if you don't mind crowds. Fox is bleacher seating and it very likely you will sit next to players, agents, or coaches as the "coaches area" is very small so there is overflow into the stands. You can overhear some great conversations and overall it is more of a true summer league environment than the larger less intimate Thomas & Mack Arena. The upside of T & M is that you will have a much greater choice of quality seats. I assume you'll want to watch the Celtics but I'd recommend planning to either arrive for the previous game in Fox or to swing over there following the Celtics game as it really is a cool experience especially if you are bringing kids. There are a TON of young kids at these games which is great to see.

It is being reported that Dario Gjergia, a Croatian currently coaching at Oostende in Belguim, has been added to the Celtics' Summer league coaching staff.

Scott Wood is going to be playing for the Celtics in Summer League. I was living in Raleigh when he was at NC State. He is a 6'7 wing with one skill.......he can shoot the ball like nobody's business! If he gets any run with a lineup that is unselfish he is capable of putting on a show.

I won't quote all that but thanks HRB! I mostly want to see the Cs and was planning on just going and staying at Thomas and Mack since the bigger name prospects seem to mostly be playing there, but I'll take a look at Fox and see who's there for the non Celtics games. I'm almost definitely going Tuesday, maybe Sunday, not sure about the tournament games.

Tatum looks the opposite of smooth. Everything looks like high effort. His jumper has a lot of body motion, he brings the ball pretty far back. Foot work is average.

Seems far off which is expected, but that's an initial look. Could change by end of game lol
