I'd guess they're absorbing those guys into the TPE, and the compensation is Zeller and the pick.
That's pretty amazing if true. The pick is nice, but Zeller isn't garbage himself.

Hope it is because Cleveland is signing Lebron.

So does Cleveland.

(and this would be as big a sign as any to me that he's going, going, back, back, to Cleveland, Cleveland.)

The pick is Cleveland's 2016 pick.

If they have Lebron, Kylie Irving and Wiggins (or Love) that's not all that valuable.

So celts add another PG...Rondo is definitely gone now, right right
If you're describing Thornton he's about as far from a PG as one can be. He's offense at the 2 off the bench.....and he can score big time too. (he'll also make people cringe)

There's no PG coming to Boston. Thornton is a SG and Zeller is a C. Jack went to BKL.

Anyway, nice deal by Danny. Picks up a 1st, a young mobile center who should fit Steven's system and an $8M expiring for nothing. I don't care if this means LeBron is back in CLE, that's a deal you do every day of the week.

I would expect Thornton to get dealt for another asset himself sometime this season. He's still young, and there's always a market for decent shooters. He's not in the Gerald Wallace, Kris Humphries category. He's a bit of a chucker, but has real talent too.

Unless LeBron decides to stay in Miami. Of course, we don't know what protections are on the pick, if any.

Top 10 in '15, '16, '17, according to Woj.

Love the trade.

Right now, giving effect to the trade, the Celts have 10 players under contract, two draftees and Joel Anthony (who I assume will exercise his option),  Bogens will obviously be gone and I assume Iverson will be headed back to Turkey.  That leaves room for two of Pressey, Babb and Johnson and/or anyone else they sign.

It will do this automatically since they wouldn't be in the lottery with LeBron.  Now if he gets injured ...
You have it backwards.  If Lebron goes to CLE, we'll get the 2016 pick since they won't be in the lottery.

Boring wheel spinning is all this is.

Thornton's expiring replaces the TPE and his offense replaces Bayless. Zeller takes Humphries slot and the pick will almost certainly be late 20's.

We extend flexibility that Ainge didn't yet utilize and help Cleveland. This deal has little impact on the team or future moves. A big yawn!

WEEI reporting the Celts are sending a 2nd round pick to Cavs as well.

Somewhere
1) Beats the hell out of Lin and one of Houston's garbage picks.

2) What the hell happened to Thornton last year? He could never defend much but the dude could score in bunches.

Oh please. They get a 23 year-old cost controlled 7 ft center with skills. For starters, Zeller can actually make free throws. Plus they now have $33M in expiring contracts in June of 2015, and maybe more if Green declines his option. This deal will have significant positive impact, possibly starting at the Feb. trade deadline.

The TPE doesn't look to be included in the deal:

Baxter HolmesVerified account@BaxterHolmes

What are the Celtics giving up in the deal? Only a future second-round draft pick, which will go to Cleveland.

EDIT: Actually, this might not be accurate. Seems to be the TPE to absorb the contracts + the 2nd rounder.

Doesn't the TPE absorb the player's salary?  Also, who are free agents in 2015?

Yea, HRB, you seem like one miserable SOB these days :)
How does it put us in a better position? We could have created Thornton's slot by paying Kardashian or Bogans $8m on a one-year deal. If someone wants a backup big the Kardashian signing accomplishes that too. The picks now are nearly a wash with a 2nd rounder going there.

The trade does virtually nothing we couldn't have done on our own unless you really like Zeller. Ainge got to fuck Riley and we got another big white backup 5 which Ainge appears committed to cornering the market on.....good for him.

I'm not unhappy it's just a big yawn that does little.

Yeah, I corrected the post. The C's used the TPE. I read that tweet over at realgm and it sounded like all we were using was the 2nd rounder. My bad.

But I still like the deal. That TPE was about to expire and we got a young center and a 1st round pick, plus a big expiring they can use by the trade deadline. I don't know why anyone wouldn't like this deal from the C's perspective.
