Cross-posting from the gamethread... Dray fouled out despite not picking up his first foul until the 2nd quarter. Probably not an easy thing to research, but that has to be a pretty rare occurrence in the NBA. Wonder if it's ever happened in playoff / Finals history before.
Reposting my known Finals answer here for greater visibility:

Draymond did it in Game 1 too. His six in Game 1 all came in the second half no less!

1996-97 is the first year we have public quarter splits. In the interest of time and arguably applicability, here are the others to do so in known Finals history. The parenthesis indicates how long the player went before picking up his first personal foul.

-2010 Finals Game 2, Metta World Peace (1Q)
-2008 Finals Game 5, Ray Allen (1Q)
-2007 Finals Game 3, Drew Gooden (1H)
-2004 Finals Game 4, Luke Walton (1Q; did not play)
-2001 Finals Game 5, Matt Geiger (1Q; did not play)
-2001 Finals Game 5, Dikembe Mutombo (1H)
-2001 Finals Game 3, Derek Fisher (1Q)
-2001 Finals Game 1, Matt Geiger (1Q; did not play)
-2000 Finals Game 6, Robert Horry (1Q)
-1999 Finals Game 2, Marcus Camby (1Q)

My takeaway is that of guys to actually play in the first quarter, Green stands alone to do it twice period, let alone in one series.

No one has ever fouled out of 3 Finals games in a single season before.
Dale Davis in the 2000 Finals: Games 2, 3, 4.

Are you guys trolling me with intentional silly comments? If so well done you have been getting me.

Tatum grabs him with his right arm, which for those of you screaming for the rulebook would mean he should be whistled for a foul, but refs do not call fouls without a result. Ever notice the pushing could whistle after a guy gets an o board? That is because if defense gets the ball "no harm no foul" and play continues. Dray (shocking I know) understands how NBA ball works better than us, knows once Tatum grabs him refs will allow him to remove or try to get Tatum's arm off him. Tatum is strong enough Dray had trouble and did not get inside. Overall it is big boy basketball where Tatum won. Nothing to see let alone, cry about.
Draymond grabbed him first with his right arm, but ok. Also, not sure what part of removing Tatum's arm involves going for someones neck.

Any Red Sox fans who were there in Oakland for the Sox-A's series in 2003 remember hearing and seeing some nasty stuff. Same fan base. Not to mention Raider fans. Bay Area whiners can stuff it.
was there for all those games, including Derek Lowe's "thigh-slap" clincher, can confirm

Not sure how anyone can say that was definite either way. At least not from that video.
The ball appeared to have reached its apex a full rotation before TL made contact. I thought that was a pretty easy call.

We're going to see Game 2 Draymond tomorrow night. It could get ugly. Or uglier since every game he plays is ugly.
i agree—he’s going to be incredibly wound up. JVG had a good comment on how to respond to that on Lowe’s podcast—a team has to decide on one of two ways: they either decide to respond in kind, confront him, get in his face, call it all out etc OR they decide to ignore it, not respond to him or complain to refs, and focus on the rest of the game.

I hope Celts are clear on their plan because Draymond will surely be in beast mode from the jump

The Celtics drove the ball nearly twice as many times if I'm reading this correctly and attempted nearly twice as many shots on those drives: Teams Drives | Stats | NBA.com

Similar disparity for shots within 10 feet: Teams Shooting Dashboard General | Stats | NBA.com

What home cooking were you seeing? If anything, I'd go the opposite based on what I saw Tatum absorbing and the above numbers that appear to back the aggressiveness disparity, but that's just me an admitted ref hater. :redwine:
Steph’s early fouls were pretty soft especially the 3rd in the 1H when White flopped which could have been crucial, the non-goaltend call on TL which I felt was obvious, I recall saying wow when Jaylen got away with something but I don’t remember specifics. It wasn’t nearly as egregious as G2 the other way but I came away feeling Boston got the much better whistle.

I only recall one non-call on Tatum that could have gone either way which was in the 1H. What did Tatum absorb when he doesn’t draw contact? I saw him fall down a lot so I hit the rewind and there wasn’t contact on any but one that was marginal.

There really is a difference between the east and west coast. Have they never been to New York? Philly? Boston?
I've got a customer who's a Giants/Warriors/Sharks/49ers fan, never met him in person, he's pretty good natured about the whole sports rivalry thing, "good luck to your Celtics, may the best team win", blah, blah, blah.

Today he sends me a text "Pretty disappointed in Celtics fans, no place for what they did last night, not cool with those chants, but this is what I've grown to expect from Boston fans as afterall, just look at how Bostonians are portrayed in "The Town" and "The Departed"......................."

My reply "So no thoughts on how we're viewed based on Celtics Pride then?"

Here is a better video. Obviously you were embellishing, for the ball only made 1/3 rotation after it left Steph's hand. Looks like it is just at it's apex when Williams gets it. But it is impossible to tell with the panning camera.

They got a taste of it in Game 2 so no reason to let it affect you in Game 4, as long as the refs are, you know, actually calling him for stuff.

I remember they said some shit after the scary ass collision with Damon and Jackson that nearly caused Ortiz to jump into the stands.

Draymond is very smart, so my biggest fear is that - realizing he’s outmatched out there at this point - he will risk a flagrant two to fuck up one of the several actually great C’s players.

Not that this is proof positive of anything, but this video clip is currently the most popular thread at r/NBA. There are almost 2,000 comments, and I found 2 which were not critical of Draymond and they have zero upvotes. Even GSW fans are unanimously rejecting it. It's extremely rare to see people in that much agreement about something. I don't know how you can look at this and think it's a basketball play. I loved the 80s/90s too.

I'm guessing Reggie wouldn't be at all cool with it if it actually happened to him on the court either. There's nothing about that play that is a standard basketball play. There's no way to look at that and think that Tatum was the instigator. It's not physical basketball play.. it's trying to hurt another player.. and I would think that if it weren't Tatum or the Celtics. It's hard to look at anything Draymond does at this point and think that it's innocent.

He has made it abundantly clear that he is going to play like a complete asshole tomorrow, so I don’t think it’s a “could”. Just have to hope that the Celtics don’t get caught up in it and the officials don’t put up with his shit.

yeah, i'm going to file the "17 times" under "Things That Didn't Happen". Maybe one guy flipped him off and after that he just saw death stares in the eyes of everyone else he encountered getting his coffee in the morning.
Maybe they were just trying to tell the Warriors staff how many towels we have in the roof so far.

I am disappointed in Klay. I have great admiration for him as a player and a guy coming back from an injury. But that he was such a sore loser to bring in the Boston fan thing. Maybe he is such a competitor he is hoping it gets him a call. Who Knows?

I think he was specifically asked about it in the press conference. Of course he's going to stick up for his teammate. This whole thing is a total nothingburger.

I think he's just frustrated. To a man, the Warriors wrote off game 1 as unsustainably hot shooting by Boston. There was no such thing in game 3 - most of the Celtics played well, but no one played unusually so (while at the same he and Curry had very good shooting nights). It wouldn't surprise me if, for the first time in these playoffs (and possibly during their entire dynastic run), he's allowing himself to believe that his team is NOT the best team on the court. That could definitely lead him to say the sort of thing that losers say.

He was asked if he thought the crowd effected their play. The easy answer was "no, it didn't." He went on to talk about rude fans and class, he deserves all the ridicule he's getting.

What Green didn’t expect was to play that poorly. It was the first time in his career that he started a playoff game and finished with less than 10 combined points, rebounds and assists. The timing was certainly bad for the Warriors, who now enter Game 4 on the road in a potential must-win situation on Friday.
Green also usually never backs down from trash talk, whether it’s his opponents, coaches or even referees like Courtney Kirkland, who engaged in a stare-down with Green in Game 3. But somehow, some way, he didn’t bark back at the Celtics fans.
The real reason is Green believes he is winning the mental game with the opposing fans fixated on him. “Because you’re in their head,” Draymond Green said. “It’s all how you look at it. They’re going to spend all their time focused on me, then clearly, you’re living rent-free in their head. It’s all in their head.”
“I really don’t pay attention to what they say,” Green said. “But the loudness of it … I haven’t heard it louder than in Cleveland. …
“Cleveland was way louder and [the fans] also say something. Cleveland people are more reckless and ruthless.”
Even if Celtics fans step up their vulgar game, Green says he will be ready.
“They are not wasting their time with anybody. And I will feed off of them Friday,” Green said.

Uh.. Draymond it seems like the fans are in your teams head, given the amount of time your team complained post game... Even Silver has no issue with the fans... and this guy is booed anytime he is at a game

Draymond is gaslighting himself

Someone might have asked Kerr or Klay what was the classy part of Draymond trying to pants Jaylen Brown and acting like an out of control bull in G2?

If the league of refs weren't going to discipline that over the top behavior, (or below the belt) it seems fair game the folks actually paying for the product, might have pointed criticisms they feel should be voiced..

And it doesn't matter at all as the Warriors scored a three on the ensuing inbound. I'd rather in hindsight have had the goaltending call.

I did think that was a goaltend in real time and haven't really changed my mind. I think the refs usually call that one...unless it's against the Celtics in the playoffs ;)

I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a player play as consistently outside the rules in any sport ever as Draymond in this series. It’s honestly a surprise when he does something that isn’t a foul or illegal. Every screen is moving. Every rebound involves jersey pulling. Every inbounds is tackle football. It’s wild.

As someone who suffered through chronic knee pain once, I was a bit upset by this story about Rob playing through pain:

Celtics center Robert Williams briefly let slip what he’d been trying to avoid admitting: He’s taking a “risk.” ... the scarier thought Williams refuses to discuss: Playing through this injury could affect the rest of his career.
I really don't like the idea of pushing a guy with knee pain:

The Warriors offer a particularly stiff challenge to a hobbled Williams with their movement and shooting. At one point, Williams said Celtics coach Ime Udoka snapped at him “Get up” – as in go higher on the floor to defend a shooter.
I know everyone's struggling with nagging aches and pains now, but I think Rob's problem is on another level, and he's not being soft. He's been noticeably hurting at times.

Good news (I hope) is he reported feeling okay today after yesterday's game.

He’s going to have chronic issues with that knee for his entire career regardless. I doubt the Celtics are forcing him to play. He has sat out several games already. I don’t want to see him walking like Bill Walton when he’s 35 but a title is on the line and he has $54M locked up in the event of a worst case scenario unfolds. So, I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s looking to push things more than the Celtics.

Ha. I also listened to that Warriors Locked on pod with the Stauskas comment and thought the same. He spent no time studying Boston. That dude had the Warriors in 5, his post-game whine is classic.
So if anyone needs a chuckle, listening to the post-game podcast from the Locked on Warriors podcast. Another classic whine. (He's also got COVID, so don't be too hard on him.) But he still thinks the Ws are a better team; thought Kerr lost G3 with coaching decisions, including he bewilderment that Kerr took Curry out as the 3Q was winding down and that Kerr didn't use the Ws greatest "strength" - their depth.

I haven't listened to all of it but he also said that G4 isn't a "must win" for GSW because while it's not a great place to be, he thinks GSW can come back. He also wondered why Looney only played 16 minutes.

I guess anyone can get a podcast if they regularly put out content so long as they meet their deadlines. Funny from the Cs perspective though.

Interesting because the article I posted earlier today reported that Drs. have told TL he's not risking anything in the future playing. Forsberg on his post-game podcast with Abby last night said the same thing.

I get the sense he's more upset that they got manhandled las night more than anything else.

The Warriors need to make adjustments, the Celtics really need to do nothing other than be more careful with the ball/cut down on the turnovers.

Dray is a future HOFer. Has he lost his fastball, absolutely, but I think "the greatest Rule Breaker ever" title is too hot

he's Public Enemy #1 right now that's about it...kind of clownish more than anything

Just agree with him, tell him his Warriors are the superior team and the Celtics are getting lucky!
