A friend texted me who was a cfb reporter for the Chronicle. He has zero confirmation but said he was told and it’s on message boards already apparently.
Ok, I went off looking for stuff on my usual rounds and this is the only place I saw anything. Thanks for the heads up. Dana had some off the field troubles in Morgantown, but nothing like that.

He’s a big of a drunk, right? I swear he had an incident last year that got him in some hot water with admin.

I don’t know what the original rumor was, but Houston when Houston dumped Applewhite for Dana, they said explicitly that winning 8 games will get you fired here. Dana now has one acceptable season in four tries for the Cougars.

Rhule is a home run hire. The Big 10 west is so shitty that he should be able to turn them around quickly with his recruiting abilities.
Agree with this. And don’t forget USC and UCLA are on the way. B1G West went from boring Iowa and Wisconsin to incorporating Nebraska/Rhule, UCLA/Kelly, and USC/Riley. At the very least will enjoy a lot more pizzazz.

I was hoping Fickell would stick with Cincinnati until he could return to Ohio State. Hate seeing him go to a team I despise. To borrow a phrase from another sport, when the Big Ten West was formed, Wisconsin was born on third and has always believed they hit a triple. Of course, under Fickell maybe they can become a legit powerhouse... I just don't want to see it.

How does the Rhule signing by Nebraska affect his existing contractual payments from the Panthers?

Does he double-dip for a pantload of cash or is there offset language in his NFL contract?

I understand there usually is some offset in NCAA to NCAA and/or NFL to NFL, but am curious about NFL to NCAA.

He does not double-dip.

“When Nebraska hired Matt Rhule, they did more than just set up their future -- they also offset the vast majority of the $34M the #Panthers still owed him. This was the thought when CAR hired Rhule. If he didn't work out, they would be covered. He'll make $72M over 8 in Nebraska.”

Auburn is catching flak for this hire — because of the scandals at Ole Miss, of course, but also because of his outreach to a sexual assault victim while at Liberty.

For the amount Auburn is paying Freeze, I don’t know why they didn’t just outbid Nebraska for Matt Ruhle. Did Rhule prefer to be in Lincoln??

I’d imagine Stanford’s focus and importance on football is quite a bit less now than it was when Shaw came to campus. I might be wrong, but that’s the impression I get from the university. It’s not wrong, if so.
I don't think it's any different. I do think the NIL and transfer window complicate things for them--it's hard enough to recruit players without being at risk of losing your depth every year, and while the university could put money out there to attract football players they seem to have no interest in really playing that game.

He coaches high school in Tennessee and think they’ve had a good amount of success. My knowledge is limited to his bi-weekly hits on Russillo’s pod. Can’t recall if he’s expressed interest in NFL / college coaching befire. At least makes more sense than Saturday but that’s a low bar.

Reports out of Tampa today saying Deion Sanders is going to be leaving Jackson State and deciding between Colorado, Cincinnati, and South Florida.
Deion was in Florida this week. The only thing we heard that is holding up the deal is Deion’s wanting/demanding a major say in the construction of a new on-campus stadium.

That seems crazy.

Auburn didn't want him? Or maybe he saw jumping to the SEC as too far because his ultimate goal is FSU--so Colorado to FSU over SEC to FSU?
I am very surprised that auburn didn’t show more interest. I think I’d rather have Deion over Hugh Freeze. Deion at Auburn would have taken the Iron Bowl to another level.

Total speculative hunch-Deion has inside info that Colorado will be moving to the Big Ten in the near future.
I don’t see it. They’re moving to the ACC iirc next year.

For COL hiring him is a no brainer. It’s an irrelevant, dead program with no future. Might as well shoot for a star.

Must be a really nice raise, because otherwise that seems kinda sidewise.
Thought I posted it but guess I didn’t. Heard yesterday morning that it was just shy of $4m annually plus other perks.

Maybe Auburn wasn't particularly interested in being a place holder until FSU came open. Colorado is happy just to be on the radar.
Let’s not assume that Auburn is making hiring decisions based on purely rational criteria here. The job might be open again by the time Deion is ready to leave Colorado anyway.

This is amusing.

University of Cincinnati is hiring Louisville head coach Scott Satterfield to be new #Bearcats football coach, source confirms to @TheAthleticCFB. It was Mystery Man all along for UC. Official announcement expected at 1 pm. The Fenway Bowl on Dec 17 should be...interesting.

And its the revival of a rivalry that was discontinued when Louisville jumped to the ACC.
