No. David Silva is leaving and our GK won the golden gloves while playing generally like crap and we lost the league by like 30 points. Oh and United got a procession of penalties to get a lifeline.

mostly I was just joking except for the Silva thing which is super depressing

To be fair United should have gotten two penalties on that one play. They both fouled him.

I would guess Villa will be the first ones relegated next year. There’s no way Grealish stays and they aren’t going to spend.

Yeah I couldn’t talk myself into that being not a penalty. I only caught the replay did they give a red as well? It was a pretty blatant penalty

Nah it was a yellow because Evans made a play for the ball.

I mean once we add Sancho our penalties should double.

Juventus take Serie A. It’s relief, not joy. This is not a fun way to enjoy a team. Outside of a couple of guys, they’re unlikable and horribly managed.

I think the league improved this year overall. Inter will be a force in the transfer market and have a good side with a strong manager. Milan are improving. Napoli and Fiorentina look strong.

If Juventus keep Sarri, the run ends next year. They have a ton of work to do to keep their noses ahead. Ronaldo’s contract can’t expire quickly enough. The loss of Pjanic is going to be bigger than they expect. Just for round numbers and records, I’d love to see them hit 10, but as assembled I think they’re dethroned. It’s best for the league and probably for the side long term.

Am I reading this wrong? If they were 7 from safety with 2 to go then they can't make it...
O
I typoed, missing out the word "weeks." That was four games, from which they took eight points, and stayed up by one. At the end of play on the eleventh of July, Villa were second bottom, seven behind West Ham and Watford with a game in hand, and those two teams due to play each other next. Also a point behind Bournemouth who had played the same number of games as Villa.

Just hearing on BBC Five Live that Zaha has said he wants to leave Palace.
He put in a formal transfer request like 3 days before the start of the season, so this isn’t a surprise. He’s worth more to Palace than pretty much anyone who’d want to buy him, but they definitely missed out on a better fee than if they had dealt him before this season.

Zaha gets dinged for “effort” and diving, but I don’t really see it (especially the diving part). He didn’t have his best season though, and that’s done at least as much damage to his value as Corona.

Why do you want his contract to end ASAP? I don't follow Serie A, so I don't know how he's performed.

1. He's expensive and has limited who the team has been able to keep and/or pursue.
2. He went 0-45 on free kicks with specialists like Pjanic and Dybala rusting away.
3. His histrionics are embarrassing to watch. He shows up his teammates on a regular basis over misplaced passes (or passes not attempted). An incredible run by Dybala followed by a layoff for a Ronaldo tap-in where Ronaldo didn't even acknowledge the service sticks out in my mind as well.

It's a shame. He was the unsung hero of Leicester's title season IMO. Seems like defenders especially fall off a cliff.
He could work in that back 8 of Ranieri- he's smart, tough, and great in the air. But that was 4 years ago and he's slow as death trying to play a more modern game. It's not pretty, which I agree 100%, is a shame.

On Ronaldo, he's polarizing for sure and obviously I love him given my club affiliation but I don't think many ex teammates have come out and spoken against him have they? All you hear is their marvel at his drive and training regimen .

As a neutral, Ronaldo has a "look-at-me-everybody" attitude and the choreographed celebrations and constant shirtless-ness come across as egotistical. However, the guy is apparently beloved by his teammates and coaches and it is reasonable to believe that the perception of his "leadership" (scowling, yelling) comes across as poor to the TV viewer at home is more good-intentioned and productive to his club, and it is hard to argue with his success. And yeah, it is easy to say he won at Man U, Real and Juventus, but his success with Portugal has been really impressive. That team at the 2016 Euros was pretty lame outside of Ronaldo, his best teammates were old Pepe and 18 year old Renato Sanches. By all accounts his leadership, even after he got injured in the final, was really strong.

Read the article and didn't see much about Dier. All it said was that he was in good form prior to the suspension (something which I don't agree with entirely) and that Dav is faster than him. Not much of a deep analysis.
I didn't say it was an analytic discussion, simply that it mentioned he was in good form and I remembered all the lamenting of him here.

Not a criticism of you amigo, just a comment that if an analyst is going to take that position I'd like to see some analysis, since I'd much prefer Dav-Toby to any backline featuring Eric. Mods, feel free to move this to the Spurs thread.

So it's funny that Aston Villa's survival likely came down to Sheffield United's "ghost goal" not being given a month ago:

Bournemouth thinks it's funny too, because they're now suing to get the result overturned:

I generally don’t care for this sort of thing, but good god that was indefensible. With Hawkeye and VAR, there is absolutely no excuse to ever miss a goal again. For it to be directly impactful on relegation is just adding insult to injury.
