Now I want to win a bajillion dollars playing Keno and buy a Low-A franchise to rebrand them to the Trojans.
Yeah man, I still call our local nine the Americans too. They will always be the Indians to me
Or as Space Force.Drum guy and friends need to start showing up dressed as Peter Quill, Groot, Rocket, Drax, and Gomorrah.
Well they'd have had to deal with it because Cleveland RocksThere's no way Colorado would have been okay with that.
They have giant art deco statues on the outskirts of the city that are named the Guardians.

Ok, that makes more sense. I had no idea. It's named after some statues on a bridge.
That logo is ugly.
This is exactly where I'm at. I would've preferred the Spiders, but this isn't too bad.I did not know about the statues, so my first reactions was "What?" Finding out about the statues makes me think "Alright. Maybe." We'll see how it grows on me.
Would have loved Spiders.
I was getting used to the possibility of Spiders, but Cleveland already deals with people around the country treating it as a loser city. I wasn't a fan of reconnecting to the biggest loser in MLB history. Besides, it's also confusing to people who don't realize it was a completely different franchise. Why?
The Cleveland version would be what, the PawPaweaters?
By the Cy Young connection is cool. And the logo possibilities are endless.I was getting used to the possibility of Spiders, but Cleveland already deals with people around the country treating it as a loser city. I wasn't a fan of reconnecting to the biggest loser in MLB history. Besides, it's also confusing to people who don't realize it was a completely different franchise.
That was definitely in the calculus of it I’m sure.Red Sox Nation
Guardians Galaxy
Pierogieaters. I'd be surprised if any of my friends around Cleveland even know what a paw paw is. They don't really grow in northern Ohio and they're also associated with our neighbors to the west ("Indiana bananas").The Cleveland version would be what, the PawPaweaters?
I am Groot.Drum guy and friends need to start showing up dressed as Peter Quill, Groot, Rocket, Drax, and Gomorrah.
Lock the message board!!At the end of the day, any name is better than the old one and any logo is going to be better than the Native American caricature they used for decades.
That's what I wonder, because the Twitter account is still labeled the Cleveland Indians, not the GuardiansIs this change applicable now? As in they are NOW the Guardians, or will they finish this season as the Indians and then change for next year?
They need to have Groot throw out the first pitch.I am Groot.
As mentioned above, they could have sold a ton of Spider merchandise, particularly for the kids. Plus they could have had a cool Spider mascot. For those hating on the flying G logo, that will be a meme used to say "GG" in about a week. Merch with that flying G is going to sell like hotcakes
Do you think people associate the New York Highlanders with the Yankees? I mean the Highlanders didn't exactly set the world on fire during their existence. I think you vastly over exaggerate the association people would have between the 1899 Spiders and present day team if it was named the Spiders.I was getting used to the possibility of Spiders, but Cleveland already deals with people around the country treating it as a loser city. I wasn't a fan of reconnecting to the biggest loser in MLB history. Besides, it's also confusing to people who don't realize it was a completely different franchise.
@Guardians is held by Disney/Marvel, so either they’re trying to work a deal or trying to find an alternative. That's what I wonder, because the Twitter account is still labeled the Cleveland Indians, not the Guardians
Personally, I don't mind the flying G and I like the new block C as well
The name change is effective at the end of the 2021 season. Is this change applicable now? As in they are NOW the Guardians, or will they finish this season as the Indians and then change for next year?
They will always be the Indians to me
Is this satire?
Can you explain why, @jsinger121 ? I mean, you volunteered this. I'd like to hear your reasoning behind it.
GuardiansMLB probably@Guardians is held by Disney/Marvel, so either they’re trying to work a deal or trying to find an alternative.
It’s pretty big, especially for what was a fairly obscure comic before the movie came out. They’re remodeling a lot of the area around Epcot to be Guardians themed.GuardiansMLB probably
I'm not a Marvel fan, how big is the Guardians IP? I'm guessing huge, like anything Marvel right now.
Could have killed two birds with one stone and called them the Cleveland Lake Fires.Edit- also I'm a fan of having a local tie-in that means something locally instead of "this is what people who have never been to Cleveland think CLE is about"
This is pretty much where I am. I was on board with Spiders but I won't judge this until there's been time to get used to it and see how it feels. In my experience it's really hard to predict from first impressions how something will feel over time. Knowing there's a local tie-in makes it cooler, IMO.I generally like it. Cool little inside local tie-in, not that dumb by team name standards.
I mean, MLB has 2 different colored socks as team names, CLE has a team named the Browns.
