6:42 left in the 1st. Puts in a rebound off the boards and stuffs it under the crossbar. This kid's a helluva player.

Or RIT-Denver all over again. A four seed beating a one seed isn't rare anymore, even for an Atlantic Hockey team. It's also a reason the tournament format will almost certainly change in within the next few years.

The talent gap between 1 and 16 in the hockey tournament isn't as large as it is in the basketball tournament when 1 vs 16 is actually 1 vs 64, 4 vs 61 or something in between.  And considering RIT has been playing win or go home for the last three weeks to get in the tournament at all, it really isn't that big of a surprise to see them stay hot, even against the #1 overall seed.

Plus MSU isn't nearly as strong or deep as some of the more dominant top overall seeds in recent years.

The thing about RIT is that the Atlantic schedule is just so ridiculously weak, the expectations for that autobid winner are annually ultra-low -- which still makes this a huge upset.

Well, the 64th best NCAA hockey team plays in Division III; there are only 59 (soon to be 60) teams in Division I. The major difference is that there is typically only one automatic qualifier. In basketball the 64th team in the tournament is about the 200th best team in the nation. In hockey, the top 15 teams usually make the tournament.

UM-D is blocking a ton of shots. Long BU possession, and the Bulldogs are exhausted. Approaching 9:00 left.

Wow, that absolutely should have been a high-hit penalty on PC. Florentino absolutely leveled Loe. Miami gets only a minor for giving the Friars their comeuppance.

PC is outplaying them, but geez, this is frustrating.

I don't blame you one bit. PC never should have been able to play in Providence. It's fucking ridiculous.

Now it's 4-2 after Pinho's 6th.

Wow. Another one for the Friars. That one came outta nowhere. Goalie change coming, but that won't matter. The domination is coming against the other 5 skaters.

Rodrigues puts BU in front at the end of the PP. 2:24 left. Stunning play.

Great screen by Oksanen, too.

Miami gives up a 3-on-2 after a missed chance in their end, and it's 6-2 as they finish the final minute of the 2nd.

Ridiculous scrum at the BU net. This might be a UM-D goal. Net came off. 7 players in the crease. Under review.

EDIT - No goal. 23 secs left. Faceoff left of O'Connor.

EDIT - Icing with 13.4 left. Another F-O left of O'Connor.

Well, there's one. If Miami manages to win this with this strategy -- against Gillies -- it'll have to go down as the greatest comeback in hockey history.

Loe and Behold! Miami gets to within 6-4 with 5:43 left!

This game has gotten me thinking that, instead of shoot-outs, the NHL should have both teams play without goaltenders until someone wins.

They lost their best chance at a championship a few years back because BU yanked the goalie with more than four minutes left and a 2 goal deficit. Would be nice to use the strategy to engineer a miracle here.

I remember it well. And Buccigross is regaling viewers with that tale right now.

Buccigross saying this could be the greatest comeback in college hockey history...I dare him to find a comeback like this at any level.
