Disappointing first period by BU, but they settle down, Millan has a great 2nd and 3rd period, and they barely lose 3-2. Get swept in the "regular season" 3-0 (can't remember last time that happened), hope they get not only 1 rematch, but 3 more. BU looks to be on the outside in for the NCAA's right now, have to win 2, maybe 3 games in the Terrier Invitational/HE tournament combo, and take care of the bottom teams on the HE schedule.

Jerry doesn't really get the boys up for the Beanpot most years. But he is Mr. March. I'll take that trade.

Raise your hand if you're sick of this being a Michigan hockey thread.
If all of you bitches really cared, you would have made it your own. The truth is that there is a strong Michigan presence on this board and we're loyal to our hockey team.

We had a big series this weekend. Alaska is an okay side, but they don't give up that many goals. I would personally argue that Friday night's win was the most impressive of the season, considering the circumstances. Alaska fought much harder tonight, and we had all the responses. Really impressed with our blueline play because we produced from that position in both games/ We have MSU at the Joe next week I believe, but overall, I'm proud of our kids. I've said this before, but we have the talent to at least be in the Frozen Four, but we just have the show it. We've won like 9 of 10 games, I think we're well on the way. Sitting atop the CCHA, this is undoubtedly true. We're undefeated at home since the Nebraska-Omaha series.

True, I should have checked that. CCHA has three very good teams. It'll be interesting to see how this winds down. We lead in the standings after sweeping another series, but Miami and Notre Dame are on our asses. We still have a series at the Redhawks left which will probably determine our and their season as far as the regular season crown. Tournament is a whole different beast as we saw last season. Michigan State at the Joe next weekend.

EDIT: My initial point was that we haven't lost at home in a long time. The loss to ND was in November. Yost has been an absolute fortress. It'll be nice in the CCHA tournament to play at home for the first few (=2) rounds where we know we enjoy an advantage than having to go everywhere like that shithole of a city an hour away (like last year) or anything like that. We've won 9 of 10 games now. Still not playing our best hockey, but we're winning hockey games.

Towards the end of the second Alaska game, they had a "Warm up the Sleds!" chant going at Yost. Love it.

"Parker shifted the focus of the conversation to an assignment given out at the end of last season. The assignment was to rank yourself and your teammates to show where you thought you fit in."

Is this common? Seems ridiculous if you ask me. I thought I was one of the few BU fans who didn't respect Parker as much as people in the know. Maybe not any more. Wow, if what is alleged there is even 1/2 true, that's classless.

Not sure if it's technically open to the public, but on my way into buying a ticket for UNC-BC bball for tomorrow, the BC hockey team was practicing and Gate C of Kelley/Conte was open, if anyone is interested in watching. Just make sure you're not wearing Red.

Crazy action in Durham. 4-4 UME-UNH tied up with a minute to go, Maine gets a lucky bounce, and Nyquist comes in on semi-breakaway, UNH goalie comes out, Nyquist dekes, and shoots and hits the post, 20 seconds, later UNH banks it off the UME goalie, with 15 seconds.

My daughter and I are the Quinnipiac Hockey jinx. Last two games we've attended, they've lost in overtime, to Cornell and Union respectively.
Speaking of Cornell, they've really turned their ECAC season around in a hurry, going 7-1-2 in league play since returning from the Florida College Classic.

Beat up Clarkson Friday night and St. Lawrence was up 3-1 late in the 3rd yesterday before Cornell tied it with 14.8 seconds left and Greg Miller buried a one-timer from the line about halfway through OT. Andy Iles/Mike Garman have really been fantastic splitting time in goal.

Tough sledding with games @Union, @RPI, and @Yale left (plus Harvard/Dartmouth at Lynah and @Brown), but we still have a shot to finish in the top 4 and get a first round bye in the ECAC's which was pretty much unfathomable when we went 4-9-1 in Nov/Dec.

Did not know that; thanks for the heads up. Too bad it's in Schenectady and not Ithaca, but I take what I can get since I don't splurge for the Cornell athletics streaming package, which isn't a terrible deal ($70/year for home hockey/basketball video, away audio, and other random sports intermittently), I just don't have time to make it worth it.

If we can split RPI/Union next weekend I'll be much optimistic about securing a top 4 seed.

NU is out with the sucks chant. The Hahvahd crowd, is either much smaller or more well-bred. Or both. Hope the Crimson get 3 early so I don't have to worry about showing up for the first game.

That was a tough one. Between the netting, snow, stick shafts/blades and pads, I can see why that was difficult to flip based on the original call.

That said, the refs have been wearing rose-colored glasses tonight.

Always good to get a win over tSiO, but this was a much needed win after we dropped the soap in Oxford last week (yeah, that was part of why I didn't post an update). Can't say I was overly impressed with the performance, but we beat them where it counts; on the scoresheet. Hunwick was pretty good tonight, and the new first line of Hagelin-Caporusso-Brown provided 2 goals and 3 assists. My main _____ Scooter Vaughan contributed the other goal, his tenth of the season. Let's sweep em tomorrow boys!

Cornell's weekend? L 4-0 @ #7 Union, W 3-2 in OT @ #8 RPI.

Now 4th in the ECAC with home games vs. Harvard and #17 Dartmouth next weekend and @ Brown and @ #2 Yale the next.

Should be close to cracking the rankings-- we squeak out a win at home vs. Dartmouth and we should go 3-1ish over the next 4 and lock up a top 4 ECAC seed-- maybe even the #3.

Team's peaking at the right time.

Sorry, Felix.

My son and I are going to the QU v. Yale game, which is sold out. We'll see if the boy solves the jinx, but probably not due to the opponent.

Then the whole family is doing a group outing to the QU v. Brown game tomorrow night. A friend of my daughter is singing the national anthem.

Again, sorry, Felix.

Hope you enjoyed it! That was Yale's best effort in several weeks. Too bad Union won in OT to stay in first place.

Anybody go to the BC game last night? That must have been crazy.

Last night, Yale looked like the best team in college hockey. Faster, more precise, better skills. It was almost like QU was a HS team at times. Good goaltending for Yale, too. Maybe they don't play this well all the time, but I was impressed. I've seen live Cornell, Union, as well as BU/BC etc, on TV, and Yale looked the best, BC second. QU should have beat Union, lost in OT at home, and there did not seem outclassed by Union at all. Maybe it was a bad game for Union.

I guess this is a must win for both Brown and QU tonight, at least to get home ice during the playoffs

As a QU alum I think its time to dump Rand Pecknold as coach. The program has a great new arena with top of the line equipment for the team and they have a .500 coach. This isn't going to cut it anymore. The academics of the school have risen considerably. To me if they can get the right coach in there this team should be at the top of the ECAC year in and year out. They need to follow the model of what they did for the basketball program there. They canned an average coach brought in a UConn assistant and have been around the top of the conference for the last 2 seasons.

It is impressive the amount of $ QU has invested (and presumably, raised from donors) over the past decade. The hockey arena/hoop arena are great places to watch a game, top notch facilities, even if lacking a bit of character in their newness. They bought Bridgeport Law School and built a great facility, and now are expanding into the medical school field (not sure that's such a great idea, but Obamacare may result in a shortage of doctors, so that might not be the case). They've bought a lot of land in the area too, buying houses in nearby neighborhoods, expanding outside the area of the main campus. I hope it pays off. I still can't shake the sort of "small time" perspective I have of QU from growing up nearby, but it really is an up and comer school - I am definitely impressed with it.

I don't think the hockey team is doing that bad so far, seems to be incremental improvement, but if people are complaining they need a more big time coach, that's probably a good sign for the program.

I've got no relationship with QU beyond growing up in the town next door and going to Calvin Murphy basketball camp as a kid (and having friends whose parents worked at the school), but it's great to have that quality of hockey 20 minutes from my house, and at such reasonable prices, with easy access to tickets. Watching hockey for pure enjoyment, although I certainly root for the Bobcats when I'm there.

I think for the hockey program to reach new heights they need to replace Pecknold. He was hired when the program was at the Division 2 level back in 1994-95 and didn't make the D-1 jump until 1999-2000. While he had some early success due to being in a couple of crappy leagues (MAAC, Atlantic Hockey (though AH has improved greatly to a huge degree), his recent success is pretty much .500 or slightly above .500. His ECAC record the last 3 years has been under .500 and they have a chance to make that 4 straight years. While he hasn't had a losing season since his second year his teams has greatly underachieved at times. His recruiting is also so-so in that he hasn't brought any top level prospects to Hamden. The program should be so much more. I think this is definitely an attractive job for an up an coming coach that can take this team to greater success which I don't see Pecknold doing.

You are right about the arenas. Both are new and are great to watch a game but they are pretty bland inside of them with little to no character.

It was a wild game. NU looked awful in the first period. The second and third periods were unbelievable. The penalties slowed the game to a crawl. I didn't know why Cronin wasn't behind the bench until today. Except for maybe NU's first goal there didn't seem to be any cheap/soft goals. NU hit the post at the end of the 2nd period, which could have made the difference. Wish I could go tonight.

Big win by Michigan over Western Mich to remain in contention for the regular season CCHA title. Captain Carl Hagelin scored w/39 seconds left in regulation to send it to OT. Hagelin then scored w/2 seconds left in OT for the win.

How much closer could this "miniseries" have been? They played three games in 3 games in 6 days in eah other's building and at the Garden

Record 1-1-1
Total goals for each team: 15

Got to give NU a ton of credit, they are young and really a year or so away from being really competitive yet they played real tough hockey against the best team in the country for 3 games....all the while losing their coaching staff, perhaps permanently. In the process they clinched a playoff spot. But I feel bad for NU. Just when they are starting to come out of the shadows of BU and BC in Boston hockey market, they lose their coach and this could set the program back yet again. I was optimistic that the hockey program would take off when they dropped football. I figured they would put those resources into the hockey team and make it a top tier D1 hockey program. This issue with the coaches doesn't derail it but it does potentially make it a longer trek than it has to be.
