Converting Video Files

My wife recently, and stupidly, switched from Android to iPhone.  Now whenever she takes a video with her phone and sends it to me, I can watch it on one of my video players but I can't save it to my gallery because of the different file type.  It's in my downloads folder so I have it saved, but it's a pain in the ass to have to always go to my file manager instead of my gallery.  Is there an easy way to convert .mov files to .mp4 or something normal?

Ok sure.  They're clips of my 2 year old daughter singing ABC and chasing a ball around.  Enjoy.

I've seen several file converters but I'm always hesitant to download from a site I know nothing about, so I'm mostly looking for any feedback or recommendations.  Also mostly I hate Apple.

I don't think a VLC would solve my issue though.  I can play the videos fine.  I use MX player.  The problem is that my gallery doesn't recognize .mov files so I can't easily access them.  I can find them in my downloads folder on Astro but that's a pain in the ass.  I'm trying to get them into my Google photos or my HTC gallery app, which I think requires converting them to mp4s first.

The .mp4 container was based on the .mov container. The are basically the same for H.264 video and AAC audio. I believe that's what the iPhone records in, so you can probably just rename the files from .mov to .mp4 and it would work.

Ok that didn't work.  The file name doesn't include the extension so if I rename it as video.mp4 it just treats it as a .mov named video.mp4.

Has anyone used a converter program that works well?

1. Actually under Windows renaming .mov files to .mp4 files does work...not that it helps you on your phone.

2. Android's Gallery is sadly picky about what it will show, ignoring the fact that you have players installed that will easily handle formats that Android's native codecs won't play, as the attached suggests
it's often easier just to use a file manager that shows all your files and select them from there...

3. Excellent simple suggestions on how to play, how to convert, even one player that will default to showing you all your files integrating a file manager to replace reliance on Gallery:
