"I don’t believe in my heart that all these deaths have been from the coronavirus." says Joe West. I still think whatever cognitive abilities he possesses reside further south and on his backside....
I mean, I’m no doctor, but I don’t think anyone’s beliefs reside in their heart. That’s where love goes.

Interesting data.

@MarlyRiveraESPN
ESPN has learned that during MLB's 8 days of intake tests, 3,740 saliva tests were completed, 66 positives (1.8%) 58 players, 8 staff. In first batch of next round of testing, “monitoring,” 2,111 tests were completed, 10 positives (0.5%) 8 players, 2 staff

Wow - on top of everything else, he and his wife just adopted twins who were born prematurely (as stated in article above).

So, the steps taken to allow for the Jays to play at home seem....extreme. I can't argue against them, but wow, I'm shocked they didn't seek an alternate US-based location. I imagine visiting teams during the season would be subject to the same.

@ScottyMitchTSN: Here is what’s going to keep #BlueJays players in their stadium/hotel bubble this summer: Per multiple sources, players have been told penalty if seen outside ballpark is $750,000 fine and potential jail time.

Are the players living at the Marriott attached to Rogers Centre? That makes it sound like they are.

Are these provincial laws/fines?

Given the pro-rata salary structure about 2/3 of their 30 man roster would be playing for less than $0 if they got caught outside the bubble.

Are NHL players subject to the same bubble-bursting fines?

No idea on the NHL but I'd guess no. I think the issue with the Blue Jays is that there's going to be traveling to/from the US involved, both by them and the teams visiting them. The NHL teams are coming into town and staying until they're eliminated and go home, or at least that's my understanding.

Posey looked like a sure-fire Hall of Famer in his early years, then injuries kind of derailed him. He needed a good season this year. He always talked about family first and this helps prove that. It’ll be strange not seeing Posey behind the plate for the Giants all year.

I love this line,
"But did you ever know a kid who didn't lead the league in hitting in his own basement?"
There was a time in Toronto, Baltimore and Cleveland when Alomar was the best second baseman in the game. He got old at 34. Too much hotel life?

I read somewhere today that these numbers are skewed due to the fact that none of the positive tests that occurred before the players reported to camp are included. (Like Eduardo Rodriguez for instance.)

That would explain why the % positive rate is so low compared to the general population.
I'll see if I can find a link.

Kopech opting out jumps out at me because I think the White Sox are one of the more interesting teams to watch for in a shortened season. All that young talent, no concerns over a long season wearing them down. PECOTA has them at 31 wins, which is better than the Red Sox.

Moncada is in some kind of limbo currently, presumably Covid but not confirmed. That would be an even bigger loss.

Also the White Sox get 24 games against DET/KC/PIT, 40 percent of their schedule. That helps your projection.

Hmmmm

If you think a fist bump is bad apparently someone needed a birthday party a few weeks ago and spread the virus throughout the clubhouse. I'm sure that is far from the only risky social interaction players have engaged in recently, and it won't be the last. A player can do everything right and is still at the mercy of his teammates off field behavior.
Moncada is one of the players I mentioned following on Instagram that was not social distancing. Posted a story of his bday party in June, one portion of which looked like it was only a few guys, but they were inside in his kitchen toasting beers and champagne.

Fake crowd noise sucks. It's an admission that the sport you're watching isn't actually entertaining enough in and of itself and needs steroidal enhancement to be palatable.
That might be true if the fake noise was being added for the fans. It isn't, at least in MLB's case. The crowd noise is for the players. They're asking for it, or at least are in favor of it.

As a fan, I'm indifferent to it. If the players want/like it, it does nothing to take away from my viewing experience so I say let them have it.

Sorry - yes, I should clarify that fake crowd noise *added to a broadcast* is what really sucks. As long as you're getting the same noise that is actually there in the venue - i.e., what the players are hearing - that's what I'm after.

Right Here
I'll add the same thing here I did in the NFL thread: It's not so much the players, who presumably are in top shape. It's the managers, coaches and auxiliary personnel that bear watching.

The sight of an older man or two with health issues, hooked up to a ventilator, will get this much closer to the pause button

The first person that I thought of when I read this post was Terry Francona because of his well-documented health issues. Ron Gardenhire and Dusty Baker are also at a higher risk due to age...

https://www.cleveland19.com/2020/06/24/covid-concerns-loom-mlb-looks-ahead/
“If you look at a lot of managers ... Ron Gardenhire (62, Tigers manager), Terry Francona, who are in that 60-70 age bracket, I think they absolutely are at risk,” longtime Indians beat reporter Paul Hoynes of Cleveland.com says, “and they’re putting themselves in a tough situation.”
Astros manager Dusty Baker just turned 71 last week. And he admits, he's nervous.

I hope they have a laugh track for errors.
I'm pretty sure I heard some boos during the Red Sox intrasquad live stream the other day. Might have been "oooo" though. They may have been experimenting a bit...the play on the field wasn't particularly boo worthy at the time.

Some Benny Hill music and sad trombones would really spice things up. They should go wild and not try to make it seem real. XFL this shit.
