ESPN's predictor has Happ as the clear leader (I am going to ignore Britton who won't win)

In the NL, Strasburg the clear leader there

Kershaw was on pace til he got hurt.

For the NL, I could see Arrieta sneaking past Strasburg, riding the Cubs success and the voters obviously well-familiar with him. Cueto in play as well.

For the AL, at the moment only Cole Hamels really feels like he can jump up to me. I don't see either Sox pitcher getting serious consideration for it, Porcello doesn't have the rate stats and Wright will get penalized for the various knuckleball handicaps (passed balls, ER vs Unearned, lack of respect for the knuckleball by some). Chris Sale lurking as well I suppose and can't be counted out

Time for predictions - who do people like?

I see Arrieta repeating, and since I think Toronto ends up the AL East champs I think the voters will reward Happ with the trophy

I'm not sure why anyone would take Happ over Hamels right now. Better ERA and more Ks. Only thing Happ has is three more wins. Plus Hamels is much more likely to keep it up.

I'm going dark horse and saying Danny Duffy.

He has some serious obstacles as he is short innings and starts because he didn't actually start...starting until late May. And his team isn't going to sniff the division.

But he is 8-1 (no "cheap" wins from relieving early on in case you were wondering).
His ERA (2.97) is only .28 better than his FIP, and with that defense there's no reason to think it won't stay under it.

Happs era (3.09) is .74 under his FIP.
Hamels era (2.89) is 1.25 under his FIP.

Duffys K/9 is well over 9. No one else close to the running is close (only klubers is over 9, and it's only just).


If it's not Duffy from out of nowhere then Id say Sale. After the trade deadline has passed he's had two strong starts and he's better than both happ and hamels.

Not that the "Predictor" numbers mean anything other than a rough guide, but that "Victory Bonus" thing is a bit sketchy right now. All of the Toronto and Baltimore pitchers get it, but the Red Sox don't, since BAL and TOR are tied for first and the Sox are 1.5 back.
