Scarnecchia previously retired after the 2013 season, but seemingly still had some sort of advisor role as he did private workouts with Stork and Fleming before they were drafted. He rejoined after the 2015 season, when the Patriots parted ways with Dave DeGuglielmo.

Piece by piece...the Patriots' dynasty is disappearing.

Not to say they can't load up and make another great run. But......

Even if Brady doesn't leave this year, we are going to have a long string of these "oh fuck, so-and-so is retiring/leaving" over the next 5ish years.

There is a strong argument that, taking longevity into account, Dante is the second-most important coach, after BB himself, to the Pats' 20-year dynasty.

The line was shaky this year but Scar had to cover up for so many injuries. I'm wondering if this makes Brady more concerned about his protection next year should he stay in NE. I hope he enjoys his retirement. He's probably a fairly overlooked part of the dynasty outside of New England fans.

Seriously. Gronk already occurred. Brady, Edelman, DMC, Chung, Hightower... it's all coming.

The dark days are around the corner. Just hope they aren't as dark as they once were. But we need to prepare ourselves mentally and emotionally because sure as hell...they're gonna be here.

What an incredible coach, who had an incredible career. He did phenomenal work with the Pats. I am sorry to see him go, but he's earned it and then some.

Couldn’t get Pro Bowl production out of Marshall Newhouse. Probably a good time for Dante to retire. The skills have eroded.

Is this where we insert the "Blow it up!" post?
The sooner they can blow it up the better they will be in the long run. I just don't see the need to hang on this team for much longer. They are not winning another Super Bowl with Brady.

For the record, the team won a SB with another guy in the position and almost went to another the next year. Of course, it wasn't a great look that the line collapsed in Denver in large part thanks to its anchor tipping the snap against the best rusher in the game.

Should be the first career position coach to get a bust in Canton. What an incredible job this guy did.

He turned Marcus Cannon and Shaq Mason from turnstiles (at least periodically) to damn near Pro Bowlers. They ought to tithe their future NFL earnings to him. Under his tutelate David Andrews had a meteoric increase in effectiveness in both the run and pass games. And that's leaving aside his work in the aughts where Brady's line was so famously effective that the group got their own series of Visa commercials.

I don't know whether Dante or Josh McDaniels would rank as the second most important coach of the Brady era, but if you're ever going to induct a position coach into the HOF, it'd probably be Scarnecchia. This article is a good summation of the esteem his peers had for him, and also his core coaching principles:

Godspeed, Dante. May you have many years left in Paradiso.

Why would you blow this team up? They are not far off from being right back in the AFC's Final Four.
Because I don't really think they need to continue buying future cap seasons for a roster that is aging and thinning out quickly. There is zero reason to overpay a 43 year old Brady for past performance. This team is up against the cap with holes across the roster that probably can't be easily filled. Plus the days of getting veterans on the cheap to chase rings in New England are probably over.

My colleague played for him at Pacific in 1977-78, still talks with him a couple times per year, and still stands by the fact that he is the best coach and one of the best men he has ever known. A well deserved retirement.

My God, man. He's a position coach. A damn good one, it is said. But we really need to save the fire and brimstone stuff for one of the holy trinity hanging it up.

I am happy for Dante. I hope he enjoys his retirement. Last year, the Pats lost Josh Boyer, the CB coach, and Brian Flores, essentially, the defensive coordinator that held a team in the Super Bowl to 3 points. This year, the defense was better. The Pats have lost a lot of coaches and yet they still keep trucking. I think BB knows what he is doing.

Not to mention Bob Kraft, who likely doesn't have too many more years as the primary owner/decision maker.
You do realize Jonathan that really has got this operation from football ops to marketing firmly in hand, right?
That he is 55 years old and the key stakeholder of multiple Kraft businesses and on multiple NFL owner committees.
Robert's role these days is more to kiss guys coming into the locker room after wins and stop BB from poorly treating his guy Tom Brady.
When was the last time in the last 10 years or more you haven't seen father and son side by side?

They also lost Brendan Daly on the defensive line last year.

He is inspirational. Thank you, Dante.
Thank you.

Now. Patriot's way.
The next man up who...
understands Scar's work ethic, methods, and knows rewards possible with them;
knows the personnel and system in New England;
came up as an undersized, thoughtful center like our head coach;
is from a storied family coaching lineage;

I want him to play. He wants to play
But, Coach Andrews would be a great addition to our football team,too.

Harry Heistand is also looking for a job. He did a pretty good job with improving the Bears oline in 2018 and while there was some regression last year, he produced some monsters at Notre Dame. The Patriots could do worse.

Meh, this is Volin being the nitwit that he is. There's a pretty big gap between helping with player evaluations at the combine and the daily grind of being an offensive line coach. If Dante is in Foxboro this summer and back on the sideline in the fall, then Ben will have a point.

All that said, I'm glad Bill has Scar's input at the combine.

I seem to recall in his previous retirement he kept doing scouting and stuff like the senior bowl too.
