Ron Darling has a book coming out in which he describes how several of the '86 Mets took amphetamines and shotgunned beers during the games.

They had it down to a science, with precision timing. They'd do that thing where you poke a hole in the can so the beer would flow shotgun-style. They'd time it so that they were due to hit third or fourth that inning, and in their minds that rush of beer would kind of jump-start the amphetamines and get back to how they were feeling early on in the game—pumped, jacked, good to go.
This should lead to a forfeiture of the '86 title, right?

Yeah I wasn't shocked. I'm not sure why Darling is writing about this now after 30 years though.

Come on, this is the least surprising news ever. I wouldn't be shocked if Gooden and Strawberry kept their coke stash in their back pants pockets while on the field.
I thought Tim Raines had that move trademarked? Strawberry didn't slide head-first, though, so you'd have quite a few broken vials. Raines didn't mess around.

Because it's the 30th anniversary since the last time the Mets won the World Series and he needs a salacious story to fill a book?

In 1970 or 71, Jim Bouton talked about how the team doctors had bowls of greenies (amphetamines) in the trainer's room and players used to take a few before every game. This isn't new.

Shit, Bud Selig has admitted that he saw the same "bowls of greenies" when he went in the clubhouse of the Milwaukee Braves in the 50s as a teenager,
