Stunning news out of Detroit: Dave Dombrowski leaves Detroit, and Al Avila is now the new GM and executive vice president for #Tigers

Dombrowski has made some questionable moves, but one must wonder how much of that was IIlitch pushing for a ring and DD doing what he wanted to do or thought was right to do. That said, the concept that the Red Sox brass wouldn't be interested is disappointing if true.

Seems like a good time to leave.  The Verlander contract doesn't look so good moving forward while Scherzer is continuing to dominate elsewhere (for now, anyway) and Price is gone.  They've lost other starters, too (Fister and Porcello) and have some aging position players, too.  Could be time for a rebuild.

Dombrowski has been a disastrously bad drafter with the Tigers. The situation hasn't been helped by how the number of prospects they've traded away, but most of those guys haven't panned out either. Nice track record in trades, but I'm not so sure about the rest of his track record.

I would not expect the Sox front office to come out and openly say they are looking at him. It's not how they tend to roll.

He's been well compensated and his future is bright. No bad feelings at all from DD. Enjoy the paid vacation!
