Ok, maybe this isn't really for the Sox forum, but I guess the mods can (re)move it if so.

Big congrats to Mookie, and Dave Roberts, and Joe Kelly, and Brusdar Graterol. They deserved it.

The toilet.
Price went 2-0 for the Sox in the WS in 2018. The flack he gets in Boston and on this board is bullshit, and smacks of racism. Congrats to the Dodgers, Mookie, Roberts, Kelly and Price (whatever his contribution may have been this year); enjoy being champions.

A number of us swore on some pretty solemn things two years ago that if David Price came through for us when we needed him to, we'd consider the debt paid and would have nothing bad to say about him henceforth. Then he absolutely obliterated Houston in ALCS Game 5. Then he followed it up by merely pitching in 3 WS games in 4 days against his now-team, including two quality starts that turned into wins, the latter of which involved outlasting Clayton Kershaw and winning the World Series for us. So if you ask me, continued success and joy is nothing more than he deserves.

I take it Sox Puppet wasn't one of the people making bargains with their maker over such matters, but I promise him that it's healthier and feels better if you let it go and enjoy the flags that fly forever.

Congrats to the Dodgers and all our old friends out there. Nobody deserves another ring more than Dave Roberts.

He signed the largest FA contract ever for a pitcher (7/217) and proceeded to be absolutely owned by the Yankees (after pitching great against them down the stretch the year before for TOR to help them catch and pass NY to win the ALE). He was brought in in part as a Yankee killer and proceeded to do this over his Sox tenure:

Also, Price gave $1,000 to each Dodger minor leaguer this season, highlighting their plight in the sports pages and implicitly shaming the Dodgers into agreeing to pay minor league players their promised salaries. I get that he earns a tooooon of money, but that was still hundreds of thousands of dollars that he didn't need to spend in a year when his own income dropped by two thirds.

My view has been and remains that he is a good dude.

He was instrumental in this. I know it’s been a while since you’ve seen one.

Hey, no one loved David Price on the Red Sox more than me except Gary Sanchez and most of the rest of the Yankee lineup. I am well aware of why many Sox fans have a soft spot for him, just saying those two weeks don't entirely overshadow the rest of it for the entire fan base.

If J.D. Drew earned his entire contract with the Sox with his grand slam against Cleveland in '07, Price earned his with the way he pitched in the final six games of the 2018 season.

No disrespect to Steve Pearce, but Price should have at least been co-MVP of that World Series.

I shouldn't be shocked if any Red Sox fan, in a lost season for the hometown team, would begrudge seeing Mookie and Dave Roberts get a second ring. But still...I kinda am.

No sweat, we love Gary too! Those two weeks don’t overshadow it, but I guess a handful of games against the Yankees somehow do.

Some things I think about when looking back on David Price's Red Sox career:
He was paid A LOT of money and underachieved for a lot of it
He came up very big when it mattered in the 2018 post season ultimately leading towards a WS win
The stuff with Dennis Eckersley.

Something I've never once thought about when looking back on David Prices Red Sox career:
How he did against the Yankees

As a neutral observer, my take on David Price is he’s a very intelligent man with Vanderbilt in his background, and a willingness to speak out on issues, sometimes in a self-serving way, other times in a keenly observational manner. He is not unlike Curt Schilling, another bright guy not reluctant to share his opinions with the world. I don’t see racism in Price’s treatment here in Boston, just disappointment by his performance that eventually was put to rest in the autumn of 2018. Schilling disappointed us in a different way, in a disturbing way, long after his career was over. There was a negative reaction from most of us to his political views, which is our problem as much as Curt’s.
Both of these men spoke from their own vastly different hearts. They both played on championship teams in Boston. And neither really fit in. Pretty sure they won’t be retiring to New England when they grow older.

You going to show your work or are you just a race bater? Not everything is about race as much as you want to believe.
There are a number of reasons to dislike Price: on a rival team for parts of 7 years that beat the Sox in the playoffs and got into it with Ortiz, the Eck fiasco, getting routinely demolished by NYY, and generally not living up to his contract.
To quote Price,"Get the fuck out of here!" with your racebaiting.

Price's record against NYY was indeed a source of frustration for us prior to the 2018 playoffs. He also pitched poorly in Game 2 of the 2018 ALDS, handing New York its only win in that series.

Fortunately for Sox fans, Boston still won the division the first 3 seasons Price pitched, and had a comfortable lead over the Yankees twice in that stretch. So his struggles against NY didn't matter much unless you're hoping to win the Payroll Efficiency Title they award the day after the World Series ends.

I am with those that believe his performance in the 2018 ALCS and WS matters above all else when assessing his performance here, but I guess YMMV.

Yikes, I should have thought twice about that title if this is the direction it'll go. No racial commentary was meant in the least.

My thought was that this is the "Price WS" in the same vein as the Gonzalez, Crawford, and Beckett trade is affectionately known as the "Punto trade." I.e., ironically naming the event after the person who contributed least to all of it ... with the Dodgers-Sox crossover element being part of both of them.

For what it's worth, I haven't forgotten Price's invaluable contributions to our win in 2018, as well as the many times he frustrated the hell out of me.

Did Schilling leave Massachusetts? I am waiting for him to take on Elizabeth Warren. He never struck me as particularly bright. As a matter of fact, he has always struck me as the opposite of bright.
Just because he’s conservative doesn’t make him the “opposite of bright.” His speech is often careless but he’s pretty smart. Anyone who succeeds the way he did as a consummate pitcher cannot be stupid.
In 2019, Schilling told Armed Forces Network that he and his wife were thinking of moving back to Arizona so that he could run for office. He identified himself as a Massachusetts resident. I believe he is still here, hunkered down like the rest of us. Looking for work because of his careless ways of expressing himself.

Uh FTFY, is he bright though? I thought we agreed Schill could talk like an intelligent guy but wasn't the brightest tool in the shed, but granted I had not really lurked here consistently until after his playing career was over.
Fake edit: sorry, I'll stop litigating this and return to the former Sox, and say congrats!

I couldn't disagree more with the emphasized statement unless I am misunderstanding your meaning. Are there really reasonable people who feel like Schilling is treated unfairly for his post playing career commentary? It's unequivocally vile.

Co-signed.
I never liked Price. He was a pain in the Red Sox ass when he was on TB. And aside from a few good starts, plus his 2018 season, he was a pain in the Red Sox ass when he was on the Red Sox.
He always seemed to be a bit of a prick, which has absolutely zero to do with race.

I don't agree that any specific posts strike me as racist in this thread, however, this regions undying hate for Price certainly does seem racist. Try posting on the Red Sox Reddit sub about how similar the rate stats are between Price and Lester during their tenure here. Try bringing up that Price was a quality player for a champion. The passionate anger is stunning and not explained by just baseball.

Lester was not a heated rival turned overpriced disappointment.

my intent was just to point out that we need to do a better job of understanding the other side as we head into the Biden era. Schilling’s political views are often vile and yes, we are not responsible for that. I just hope we can do a better job of understanding each other in the next decade.

Deleted my post as it was not appropriate to this forum.

I get that this was meant to be a mock-serious thread but it has inevitably gone to shit, so people are free to discuss elsewhere.
