Denyi is more binky than prospect but he does have a chance of making the Major Leagues. He gets by on below average stuff and sits in the low 90s. The thing that makes him interesting is his command/control profile. He doesn't really walk anyone. He's one of those pitchers who deserves a chance to fail despite underwhelming velocity. He's had success at every level and has been age appropriate at every step.

In his first season (DSL) he had a 1.0% BB rate against 296 batters. (18 )
In his second season (Gulf) he had a 2.8% BB rate against 141 batters. (19)
In his third season (NYPL) he had a 2.9% BB rate against 245 batters. (20)
In his fourth season (A, A+) he had a 3.1% BB rate against 609 batters. (21)
In his fifth season (AA) he had a 5.9% BB rate against 629 batters. (22)

This season, he currently has a 3.3% BB rate against 92 batters in AA. His K rate this season sits at 23.9%.

His career line to date: 2.80 era, 501.0 ip, 1.026 WHIP, 73bb/424K. 21.0% K rate, 3.6% BB rate. His BB/9 is 1.3, His K/9 is 7.6.

I'd guess he sees AAA before the end of the season, given he's repeating the league already even though he had a solid 2019 campaign.

By below-average stuff, do you mean he doesn't get movement on his breaking pitches? Or his changeup delivery gives it away? Low-90s used to be acceptable velocity if the pitcher had a decent repertoire.

His change up breaks but there isn't much difference from his fastball. His delivery will sometimes give away his curve. He also has a very raw slider.

Anyway, in 2018, he was the SALLY league POTY https://www.milb.com/news/denyi-reyes-dubbed-sal-pitcher-of-the-year-292300532
He also won Redsox Minor League pitcher of the year in 2018: https://www.milb.com/news/reyes-and-suarez-among-red-sox-minor-league-award-winners-294586404
In early 2019, he was dubbed Boston's most interesting pitcher at camp: https://www.masslive.com/redsox/2019/02/denyi-reyes-boston-red-soxs-most-interesting-young-pitcher-in-camp-took-ball-off-forehead-from-brothers-bat-first-time-he-practiced-but-its-been-all-uphill-since.html

Thanks. Some pitchers make it very far solely on their ability to spot a mediocre fastball in all the right places, but in the majors he'll surely need at least one reliable offspeed pitch.

Last outing: 3.0 ip, 4 hits, 1r/1er, 1bb/1k. 15 BF.

He's mostly been piggyback starting all year, although he had started his previous 2 games prior to the 11th.

Last 2
3.0ip, 3 hits, 1r/1er, 1bb/5k.
1.0ip, 1k.

the 1 inning was the 6th inning of a double header (7 inning game). Curious if that's all it is or they are transitioning him to a more traditional bullpen role.

If so, that's disappointing to me but I'm sure they know better than I do.

7/3: 0.2 ip, 2 hits, 0r, 0bb/2k.
7/7: 3.0 ip, 1 hit, 0r, 0bb/1k.

Now for the year: 12 games (2 starts), 2.72 era, 36.1 ip, 35 hits, 11r/11er, 3 HRA, 5bb/35k. Hitters are slashing .250/.289/.357 on a .311 BAbip in 149 PA.

23.5% K rate, 3.4% BB rate.

I really hope he gets moved back into the rotation. I doubt he's anything close to Brad Radke but he should be allowed to start until he actually fails at doing so.

Probably had his best performance of the year on July 11th. In a piggy back start, he went 4.0 ip, 3 hits, 1r/1er, 1bb/8k and 1 HRA. 17 swinging strikes on only 67 pitches. He had something going on.

40.1 ip, 6bb/43k. K rate jumped to 26.1%, BB rate slightly increased to 3.6%.
