My Sony blu-ray player BDP S5100 is no longer compatible with MLBtv...ugh.

My Nexus 7 is fully updated but wont go to today's date on the MLBatbat...grrr...this may be due to my single team sub.

My Chromecast wont connect as T/W assigned my modem a new network number and despite recognizing it making it change as directed isn't working....RESOLVED

What are my best options...which Roku suits the bill? or any other stick...I prefer to have something that will become obsolete or of no use in the next year so I can return here to whine and complain and bring attention to my ignorance.

I've had great results with an older model (pre-2012) Apple TV for a few years with MLBtv. I bet you could pick one up pretty cheap refurbished unit via Apple.

I have different devices on different TV's: Roku, Fire and Apple TV (1st gen). If I get an MLBtv account, can I watch on any of the three?

Can I watch on iPhone 6 or iPad (2nd gen)?

Also, what are the MLBtv blackout rules? If I am in NYC and the Sox are playing the Yankees, will I be blacked out?

Visit their site for a list of devices that are compatible with MLBtv 2016...yes you will probably be blacked out...elsewhere on their site you can enter your area code to determine if you are blackout or not...it depends on what zip code you subscribe from.

We have three ROKUs and they all work. I think they are all different generations. I also have the At Bat app on my phone and iPad

If you want a dedicated app for when you watch games on your computer, MLBAM has released both a Mac and PC dedicated MLB.TV app..

I plan to use my Chromecast to stream to the TV as I did last year when the app on the blu-ray didn't work properly... e.g. couldn't access game at all or excessive buffering. Note: this issue may have been resolved with a new Arris modem which has provided excellent signal strength as compared to the Ubee I had. I also purchased an Amazon Fire Stick (w voice command) using the SoSH link...I wish they had a flashing neon version of this ->
Thanks for the reply...

Question: What is the significant difference bewtween the dedicated app and streaming form the MLBtv website? Is it because it opens up streaming to a variety of devices?

My wife left (different thread) and I'm trying to cut costs. As a result, I'm thinking of saying goodbye to Directv and my Extra Innings package. Two years ago, I took advantage of a free trial and tried to watch MLBtv via PS3. The picture was HORRIBLE. Like couldn't see the ball, bad (Internet connection was great and had nothing to do with it - it wasn't wired, not wifi). Is it better on other devices? When folks say it's good on Appletv, are they f-ing with us or is it actually good?

I'm most interested in what works best on a tv as I want my son and I to gather around it watch it together.

What media systems do you have that you did not have two years ago? (Ps4? Rocku?) Picture is usually better on the newer AppleTVs than the older ones.

Roku's have been pretty good as well

Good question. All the same! PS3 and Mac computers. But, I'm willing to buy Roku, Apple tv, etc. to make this work. I pay over $120/month for Directv so he savings would be enormous.

MacBooks or iMacs? If you have a newer MacBook with the HDMI port you can buy an HDMI adapter and just play MLBTV on your Mac and then hook it up to your HDTV.
If not, I would do some research on apple tv vs roku (channel wise) so you can buy one that you will get more use out of, other than using it for MLBTV

In my experience, MLB.tv is way better on Apple TV over the PS3. I had all kinds of issues with PS3 even after hardwiring it via ethernet, while AppleTV is very stable.

Slightly off topic, but when does the first big MLB.tv sale come up? Is it usually like 50% off for Mother's Day or am I misremembering?

Since I'm back in the Boston area this season, I'm thinking I might hold out until then to buy the full season package rather than paying full freight since I can watch at least Sox games and MLB network games and ESPN games without it for the first few months, and watching other teams isn't really worth the full price to me.

Despite the information on the informational website for MLB At Bat, the app no longer works on my first generation iPad. I am running iOS 5 and am using the 6.4.1 version of the app which is supposed to be compatible. I can't get the calendar to advance past November 4. This is the primary device I use to watch games so you can understand my frustration. I guess I need to start looking for another tablet style device. I don't want to pay much. Any suggestions? I have a PS4 and a Fire Stick, but I want something I can watch in the background while also playing The Show or watching TV.

Leaving in a bit to the studio :)
Apologies if posted elsewhere but MLB.TV Premium is FREE for 2016 for new and existing T-Mobile customers if you sign up before April 10. http://9to5mac.com/2016/04/03/how-to-free-year-mlb-tv-premium-live/

I just signed up for this. It works.
Signed up in less than a minute (you need to link to a valid MLB.com acct). Just make sure to do the initial signup while connected via TMo and with your wifi OFF.

Almost deserves its own thread......

Since I've been an MLB.TV subscriber for years and as a result MLB.TV auto renewed me in February at the new settlement price of $109.99, I called T-Mobile directly. They credited my T-Mobile bill $109.99. Very nice.

I have a Roku Classic, I guess and when I tried to watch it on the MLB channel, I got a message saying that i needed a new Roku. I already paid for MLBtv premium but I guess I could call and ask for the refund like LoweTek did. But, I still can't watch the game on my telly via ROKU unless i get a newer one. I watched/listened to the game on my computer while i worked.

You can get a used/refurb Roku super cheap. Or an amazon fire stick or chrome cast. Streaming devices are insanely cheap now.

I have a newish Tivo Bolt (December). They recently added the MLB app to the device. Excellent picture compared to my Roku 2.

So what did you say when you called T-Mobile customer Service? Just that you were auto-renewed for MLBtv but that you wanted to take advantage of this free offer? Was there any grief involved? tx

No grief at all in fact. The guy put me on hold a couple of times to figure out exactly what I was talking about but I was on the phone less than 5 minutes. I have been a T-Mobile customer for quite some time. I assume this was a factor. He said it was.

Anyone care to hazard a guess as to why my VPN (via PIA) does not work with mlb.tv? IP comes up fine and everything seems to work fine, but I still get blacked out when the Sox are in my area (Baltimore). Is it because mlb.tv also uses my home address to determine if they're going black out Os games despite where I'm supposedly logging in from?

What kind of device are you using? If it's an android tablet it uses the location services in addition to the IP.

If it's a regular PC or laptop it should work. I use PIA with mlb.tv all the time.

I had the same issue with PIA a few months ago. Every US location I chose would result in a blackout. I started setting my location outside the US (specifically London), which has since worked every time. See if that helps.
I'll try that. Thanks. Would this imply there's a glitch in PIA's VPN?

Did this change? I watched the 2013 ALCS on the app while in Ireland. (On a tour with a number of Tiger fans, in fact. Good natured running throughout the trip.)
You were out of the country.

So...what are US-based MLB.tv folks doing for the playoffs? Has anyone tried sling.tv?
