#DFG: Canceling the Noise

Is there any level of suspension that you would advise Tom to accept?

ABC's legalite Smith said roughly, "Roger's a loser even if the NFL prevails on appeal."

I wonder how many of the "Brady should've just taken the suspension and moved on/should've accepted the findings of the Wells report and settled" people are going to criticize the NFL for appealing this.

Hearing that Brady's only issue with the ruling is the suspension is vacated "effective immediately." He wanted it "effective Tuesday," so he'd have the long weekend to just chill.

Having Jim Anchower as your profile pic completely makes this joke.

Kraft should make a statement at some point about how he stood down for the good of the shield and Goodell didn't.

Somewhere in Foxboro Ryan Lindley sheds a single tear.

I regret that I am in my office today and can't hear Gary Tanguay's take on this.  He was absolutely 100% certain that the NFL would win this case.
1)Brady got away with it
2) NFL screwed up by not letting Pash testify
3) It's not over. NFL will likely win the appeal.

He is as insufferable as you would expect.

@DanWetzel On a side note: if you're ever accused of anything, having Jeffrey Kessler represent you is a good idea.

Amen. Wetzel has been a god-send too!

League is going to appeal per ESPN/WBZ.

It will be interesting to see if they try to fast track it -- they have 30 days to file a notice of appeal, but they probably will do so much more quickly for public relations reasons.

Every single person on camera at ESPN is either frowning or looking super gravitas. It's delicious, and a stark contrast to the giddiness with which they reported the initial cheater-cheater Mort tweet stuff.... BTW, where is Mort today?

Onced the BRADY WINS!"  dust settles a bit, it is going to be somewhat comical to hear the usual suspects trying to dissect this opinion into the usual hottakes soundbites. 40 page opinions don't lend themselves to highlight packages.

Maybe it was the NFL mostly responsible for this fiasco, but they weren't the ones who didn't do their homework and check all the texts on McNally's phone.  That screw up was all Wells.  So I can't help but wonder which of the other screw ups were also his.

A lot of folks on this thread think that Paul, Weiss absolutely had all the McNally texts in hand and were setting a perjury trap of some kind by not showing them to him.

Watching ESPN today is like watching FOX News when Obama won the second time. Not only are they pissed, they are totally blind-sided. Their whole world makes no sense.

I believe this makes the Patriots the first NFL franchise to win two Superbowls in the same year.

I really hope their is a groundswell of media backlash on Goodell when they dig through the 39 pages, and that Kraft and the Patriots subtly launch a PR campaign to try and get the draft picks back and Goodell ousted.

Bring in Tagliabue on an interim basis, do another search, and hopefully find someone who wasn't a mail-room clerk whose Daddy used to be a US Senator.

Fuckin' A. Jeffrey Kessler, you beautiful son of a bitch!

I have an erection.

How quickly will we hear if the 2nd will take the appeal?

They have no discretion not to take the appeal.  They must take it.

The NFL will file a notice, and that's it.  Then briefing commences.  Ordinarily, the NFL's brief would be due in a few months, but they may file more quickly if they like.

I found it interesting that he "accepted" the finding of fact (as he should for appeal purposes) but continued to reference "alleged" ball deflation throughout the report.

This is the first time in history this line has been typed or said.

By the way, great post from GangGreen:

Guy cheats and wins the Superbowl and no suspension....Sheldon Richardson smokes a joint and gets 4 games.Great job Rodge

Mort's assembling notes from his league sources and putting together his story on Berman upholding Brady's suspension.

You will definitely hear it if you are at the stadium.
Have a feeling there will be a lot less mics in the crowd than normal on the broadcast.
Wonder if they even acknowledge the banner raising next week.  Not coincidental that not a single patriot is among the 11 featured in the NBC NFL intro for Sunday night football this season.

Must be like CNN when the big hurricane is downgrade to a tropical storm.  Wolf is in the emergency situation room.  They've got storm chasers in their slickers standing on docks with rain pelting the camera-men, and then the scientists come in and ruin all the fun.

Ouch. Berman pulled all punches.

Why is this especially significant?

Cossack sounds genuinely pissed. Deflecting everything and wants to see what the 2nd circuit does. Basically sticking his hands in his ears and angrily shouting 'I can't hear you.' What a clown.
Did I hear him correctly?  (paraphrase) this opens the door for every arbitration ruling in America to go to court?

He REALLY doesnt get that whole "inherently, an arbitrator needs to be impartial, whether it's specified or not" part........
