Soccer "ultras" are generally scum, but Thursday is a situation in which an organized movement comprised of rabid fans would improve the atmosphere of the game a thousand fold. Chants involving Goodell's wife would likely be in order in that scenario.ifmanis5 said:Thursday night will be the ultimate FU night in sports history. snowmanny said:He was exonerated. If I"m having a conversation about this idiocy with a handful of friends and family or any of you then I will recognize the nuances of the events including the legal case and the legal grounds on which Berman made his findings. To anybody else on the planet I am going to refer to this as The Exoneration. Most others don't know anything except "cheaters" and, now, "technicality" so they don't deserve to get a reasoned response from me (which they have no interest in anyway) nor do they deserve to get a rise out of me. So all they will get is that "the Judge exonerated Brady," and for a little spice I will add "and the Patriots."

I hate to keep saying this, but didn't the team lose a first round pick seven years ago and go to two SBs since then, winning one? Dagger to the forearm perhaps, but not a death penalty by any means.
'The law that protects arbitrators' decisions from judicial interference is a fundamental principle of American labor law. Goodell, in contrast to his bungling of the Rice, Peterson and Bountygate investigations, led a process that produced a solid investigation. Goodell's 20-page decision was impressive in its analysis of the evidence and its application of the "conduct detrimental" clauses of the CBA and the standard player contract. It was a vast improvement over Goodell's phlegmatic and occasionally incoherent testimony in the Rice arbitrations. And Brady blundered badly when he refused to cooperate with the investigation and destroyed evidence.
Finally, it is easy to envision the league attorneys thinking: "We just had the wrong judge." If so, why not take the case to three different judges in the higher court and see what happens? It will not happen quickly, but this is an appeal the NFL can win.

Roger Goodell will not attend next Thursday's NFL opener in Foxboro, NFL confirmed. Believes the focus should be on game/festivities.

As per the other thread, I have a hard time figuring out how Wells got himself into this situation.
Nope. We're on to normalcy.E5 Yaz said:Brady walks out to midfield as the sole captain tonight, right?

Absolutely, and it sucks to be without that pick. But that pick could also be a jag or on IR before week 1. No guarantees with low first round picks. It's not like they had to declare one of their starting tackles a free agent. It's a hit, but not a catastrophe.

True but when this theoretical draft pick would have been entering his prime during the 2017-2019 seasons, when Brady will most likely be well into this decline phase. A harsh truth.

I know that Ted Wells has this cult of personality around him, but this seems like a very odd comment considering what we now know.
Whatever he was in the past, Wells proved that he is a nothing more than a glorified bag man now. He came through for Goodell in the Incognito investigation and he did here as well. But his work was transparently flawed and it's quite obvious that whatever integrity he had has a price: $5 million. (Minus fees to Exponent.)
Maybe it's even simpler and Wells simply never was as good as his reputation.
Is he sending Troy Vincent in his stead?soxhop411 said:Mike Garafolo @MikeGarafolo 1m1 minute ago

Meh. It sucks, but whining about it for the next five years doesn't seem like much fun and this team has overcome worse many times.Kenny F'ing Powers said:

As Brady ages, it becomes more important to rely on guys like these. No, it's not a "catastrophe", I didn't say it was. But to shrugs your shoulders as if it isn't a huge fucking deal because they overcame this once before in the throes of a HoF QB's career is asinine.
Look at the names up there. It's a big fucking deal.

The pick loss is a farce, but the picks are gone. It sucks. It obviously matters, but there's zero anyone can do about it. After spending countless hours dealing with this joke of an issue for the last eight months, Im personally choosing to be happy today that some semblance of sanity has entered the process and that Brady is going to be there opening night when he deserves and be eligible for all 16 games this year rather than dwelling on not having a '16 first rounder.Kenny F'ing Powers said:

Carry on, everyone.
I see no problem with it. Get him in there for a handoff and then put in Lindley.j44thor said:So does Brady strap on the helmet tonight take the first snap and hand it off then walk off the field to the loudest ovation in pre-season history?
Seems anti-Belichick but something Kraft would love to see happen.
Have the National Football League’s lawyers gotten their appeal filed yet, or were they too busy applying the league’s concussion protocol to Roger Goodell, who got his bell rung good and proper by Judge Richard Berman on Thursday morning? I’m serious about this. If somebody asks him how many fingers he sees, and he answers, “Article 46 of the collective bargaining agreement,” they should sideline him immediately.
He follows the NFL guys around to make sure they don't steal any more balls from charities.AB in DC said:
So this is a great question. Apparently the NFL won't allow him back to his old job, but IIRC he can still work for the Pats in some other capacity. What do yall think -- Tom Brady's personal assistant? Bodyguard? Walmart-style greeter?

Yeah! We all know that this entire debacle was bullshit. We should be happy that Brady got off, but a worse and longer lasting punishment is still going to affect the Patriots. Be happy that only one of the shitty punishments was vacated!
