#DFG: Canceling the Noise

Is there any level of suspension that you would advise Tom to accept?

I'm glad Brady did not turn over his cell, this has been a witch hunt the writing has been on the wall since day one.  God only knows what would have been plastered on TMZ.  Hopefully a court of law would not do that.  Don't think I've ever been so upset over a sports incident.

I hope that was Brady's strategy all along. See what the league does, knowing Goodell would overreact, and then go to court where you're willing to turn over your personal cell phone. Phone records then reveal nothing and the NFL looks like a bunch of bumbling fools.
Who doesn't turn over information that would justify their innocence? To do so now would be utterly perplexing.

Hard to prove a negative.

Because Wells was never going to paint him in that light?

I'm sure a pre-inspection agreement could have been arranged that would have protected any and all unrelated content from being released.

We should have the response to this pinned here somewhere instead of having to rehash it every three pages.

Exactly. This was coming out against Brady no matter what. I suspect it was done so that the public wouldn't know what a clown show the NFL's referreing is and how corrupt/underhanded the league office is

Since the refusal to fully cooperate was one of the crimes, I would hope TB's reps would do a LexisNexis or google search of how many "per league sources" reports we have seen since the news first broke in January. It must be in the thousands. Then print all of them out and dump in front of the league office to counter its claim that they would "safeguard" his privacy.

Brady has 5 months of film study with a red hot fire chaffing his ass before he faces the Colts in (hopefully not) his season opener. What's the over under on points scored on that game? 70?

How many "per league sources" reports have you seen since the story broke in January? There is no way to protect anything once the information is out.

People who know that whatever information they provide will be cherry-picked and decontextualized to make them appear guilty? People who have provided reasonable answers to questions? People who don't want private conversations turned over to a league that leaks like a sieve?

From the NFL statement:

Patriots employees John Jastremski and James McNally have been indefinitely suspended without pay by the club, effective on May 6th

So do Jastremski & McNally have recourse under Massachusetts Labor Law -- if they, you know, didn't actually do the thing they're being suspended for?  Might be a way to get a truly independent review of the Wells Report.

How loud and how long can the crowd sustain a "Goodell Sucks!" chant to start the season on TV?
I'd rather that Kraft finds a way to take him out before the season. Then, when Brady takes the field with the Patriots for Game 1 due to an independent arbiter throwing out the suspension, the crowd chants thunderously, "Where is Roger?"

Sorry H78. That's absurd. This isn't a made for TV potboiler.

Goodell's first move was to take out Simmons. He'd be spewing hot lead right now, for better or worse.

Understand that the other owners will understand only if and when TB gets into litigation mode. They don't pay attention to this stuff like we do. They are viewing this from 38,000 feet and probably inclined to give Wells the benefit of the doubt.

Kraft needs Brady to make the case Kraft will likely never have the opportunity to make. If the Brady penalties are overturned, Kraft will have the owners' ears.
Not to mention some other owners confuse their own incompetence in drafting and/or hiring with being "swindled" by the devious Pats.
On another note, It's always amazing when players around the league exult in the punishment of another team's players. There are only so many jobs to go around.

So angry. Don't feel like I want somebody to sue. I feel like I want somebody to Suh; on an NFL suit's medial colateral ligament.
But, I will await direction from the GM instead.

@realDonaldTrump: People are so jealous of Tom Brady and the Patriots. No court could convict based on the evidence. They can't beat him on the field, so this!

The best remedy is revenge, my friend. Like some more rings.

There is a natural life cycle to things. The 15-year run we have just enjoyed is very difficult to sustain, and almost impossible to sustain absent an energy boost.

Kraft/BB/TB have just been administered the equivalent of 25,000 gallons of 5 Hour Energy.

Climb above for the ride.

@realDonaldTrump: Why do we always try to destroy our true champions and winners in this country, while at the same time leaving the losers alone? STUPID!

Please stop posting tweets no one gives a flying fuck about.

Question: does the game ban mean Brady can't participate in OTAs, summer camp, etc?

Can you also explain how text messages would ever prove his innocence? Did he text somebody before he had ever heard of this and say "hey by the way I don't deflate my balls"?

No I don't think so.   He should be able to play all the way up to the last preseason game....should this suspension actually stick.

BB is an ahole and obstinate. That nets these punishments. If he were more amicable and contrite then this would not happen. Simple as that. The league will keep trying to beat him into submission.

Remember his presser when spygate came up. Well...lesson not learned, let's try it again.

The pats 'not cooperating' is just more of the same that needs to be controlled.

This has nothing to do with balls just as rice had nothing to do with hitting his wife. The former is about control (and pr), the latter was about pr. Beat women and cheat. Just don't make us look by and don't get out of line.

The picks and $ were stiff because the suspension won't stand (at 4 games).

There's no way they raise the banner opening night, right? You'd think Kraft would be so pissed about this, he'd make the team leave the field during any sort of ceremony.

Yes, this 1000%. I was going to post something like this in response to Kull, but this captures the essence of it.

Kraft's best hope is to have something that exposes the NFL front office, and by extension the NFL as a whole, to ridicule and approbation. Then, and likely only then, can he bring the other owners along.

It's too bad that by the time any internal appeals process is complete and any Federal suit is filed I would guess the NFL will have likely conveniently changed computer systems and had to clean out file storage.

Love Brady's agent's response, but unfortunately, I don't think the more egregious punishment can be touched: the loss of our first round draft pick in 2016.

That's just so damaging to a franchise, and so over-the-top it's absurd. No appeals process for it, either. Jimmy G can keep the ship afloat for 2-4 games worst case scenario. Losing a 1st round draft pick is a dagger.
Just hope to hear the following words from Goodell next spring:

"With the *63rd* pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, the New England Patriots select..."

For the umpteenth time, we need to know what Wells proposed in the letter to accommodate his need for privacy. As the report indicates, an offer to let him or his lawyer deliver pertinent texts duly redacted is one thing. If in fact it was much broader, then his refusal takes on quite a different light and the risk of a leak increases significantly.

However, if he was given the option of filtering them, then what's the risk? That Deadspin would leak emails that bore on inflating the ball? What's the privacy concern about inflating to 12.5 psi?

That's wrong - Pats did not "videotape opponents practices".  They videotaped opponents signals during games, from the sideline.

I'm a Giants fan. But I otherwise root for the Pats. I'm going to root harder now. This entire affair stinks to high heaven.

Question: if the Pats don't have to pay the salary for a lost draft pick player, can they somewhat mitigate the blow to their roster by using those unspent dollars on a decent vet FA, cap-wise?
